Great video, I have had the pleasure of visiting Malta in the 1984, great Island and people, the whole Island was awarded the George Cross in1942
The only thing is that they forget to mention how italians played a significant role in the operation, carrying out many of the attacks on the convoy
The Italian cruisers would have sank all the remaining damaged merchant ships on the last day but Mussolini bottled it ...
The Mediterranean/African theater itself was going poorly for the Italians until the diversion of German troops and equipment from Russia
Great video Smithsonian! I've been loving your WWII videos! And I especially love the fact that the stock footage is in color too!
Narrator: by Summer, Malta is almost out of Food, Fuel, and Ammunition.
Me: That sounds like the War for Cybertron.
Sounds like a one star review on Tripadvisor.
The SS Ohio. Gotta be one of the greatest stories of survival. Without Ohio Malta was lost. A testament to her and her crew that she was kept afloat long enough to get into port. That fuel kept the RAF in the air and meant the end of any AXIS hopes of removing Malta from the fight.
Great video. I didn't know about this.
Viva Malta 🇲🇹!
*Monument's n Museums*
Makes it all worth it
nice video ! im maltese i appreciated alot this video ! is it from a longer documentary? thanks !
Smithsonian Channel come back to Brazil, please!
Make this go viral
The Ohio entering the Maltese harbour is just like the meme of Jack Sparrow stepping off his sinking ship onto the pier in the first pirates of the Caribbean film 😂
Such an epic story though. It somehow survived that wild run and saved malta
Ohio had speed. Which is why it was used.
Our navy left a lot to be desired at that point
Don't know what you're talking about - the Navy kept Malta alive and in the fight.
Excellent video. Thank you! 🙏
This is another piece of history that I previously knew nothing about. 😲
