I don't have any failed drive stories (thank God), but what I do currently have is a 2007 Toshiba Satellite M200 Intel Core 2 Duo T53000, 1.73 GHz, 512MB RAM DDR-2, 120 Sata HDD. I upgraded the RAM to a DDR-2 667 1GB RAM. That being said, I'd be honored to win the Samsung T7 Shield 1TB SSD. It's a great accessory, and a must have for anyone who has a Windows PC or MacBook. My first color option would definitely be the black one. Secondly, is the beige/ white. Last but not least, would be the blue one. PS: That's my story.
People serious about avoiding data loss should avoid using external SSDs, too many instances they could be damaged/stollen/corrupted, & just upgrade internal SSD (to keep all data local) & backup/sync to the cloud for safe keeping. Not the cheapest option, but it's a lot safer. You could use an external SSD as an additional (but not primary) backup.
@@Lee.S321 Too many instances, yes! But remember, upgrading an internal SSD (and keep all data local, which is what I prefer) is more expensive compared to getting an external drive. I've never really liked the "backup/ sync" to the cloud drive because I'd always be relying on an internet connection to access my data/ files. But it is the safest option, I do agree on that.
@@nicholasmushi6311 If you have everything local you won't need to rely on internet connection to access data, it's on the device. I guess it all depends on how much local storage you have & how much you need. My laptop (13" HP Spectre) came with 1TB from the factory & I upgraded to 4 TB (it only takes singles sided NVMe M.2 SSDs, so 4TB is the max capacity I think). More than enough storage for me for now. All files on the laptop are cloned to the cloud in case I do something stupid & damage it. I used to use external SSDs for backup/additional storage, but these days i'd feel it too risky & the stories at the start of this video reinforce that.
@@Lee.S321 exactly my point. I prefer all my data stored locally. Thus, easy to access! A Windows PC or MacBook with a 1TB or 2TB SSD with a 16GB RAM is sufficient for me.
Remember, the most important rule to making sure you don't lose data is following the 1-2-3 rule. 1 copy of the data on device, a second copy of the data on premise (probably an external drive), and a third copy off-site. If you always have three copies of your data, you will never lose data again.
This is what we were taught by a great teacher in editing we had as well. 3-4 drives; one (preferably SSD) to carry around for everyday use, one (or two) larger HDD’s at home for backups (two as a an extra security in case your main backup drive fails), and one off site in case your house burns down.
Immediately in the beginning, I found out, thanks to your introduction, that a more slimmer (though more fragile) T7 Touch exists. I immediately decided that I would be buying that over the T7 Shield, but I still watched your video to the end because it wast just simply entertaining. Good job!
I am planning on buying external ssd & after seeing your video it helps me out. My 1 tb hdd just failed recently. I show to technician & he said it cannot be recovered. I lost all my important school files & work files. 😞 I really appreciate your videos it helps me out alot.

Dude, my drive failed last year. Power in my building went out and cut back on quick... Frying my drive with TONS of client work. I was able to get the data back through data recovery, but it was unstructured. No file names, no specific format. 350,000 files completely smoked. Thanks for the tip on these Matt, considering the purchase. 🤙
I'd like the blue color! I'm a new student in the USA and my last hard drive is filled up to the brim and I really would benefit from a new SSD which will be faster and less likely to fail. I had PTSD of my hard drive failing as soon as I landed 😂

Ummmm there was this one time couple years ago when I almost lost all my data on my laptop in uni just before my exams. It somehow survived (kept blue screening and saying hdd not detected but fixed itself after restart) till my exams got over after which I took it to a repair place. The person said the disk had a problem spinning and needed to be replaced. To this day I still have no clue how it survived. Replaced it with an ssd and realised how much faster they are compared a hard disk. Even got myself a Samsung t5 external ssd to back up my stuff in case something happens. I still use that laptop to this day 😂
I could definitely use a T7 shield while traveling and editing. I used to use a mechanical portable hard drive, and the connector broke, and I had no way of shucking the drive, since the USB was part of the HDD PCB 😥
My failed drive story is pretty typical. Had a standard SATA drive in my old MacBook which slipped off my desk onto the carpet floor. The MacBook survived with the exception of the HDD. Lost all photos and media files as it was before I did any backups. Nowadays I triplicate everything! That being said, I like the classic black color and keep up the good work on these videos!

Once I borrowed one from a colleague to transfer some data and it was one of those External HDDs of pocket size. While I was on the bus, on my way back home, the drive slipped from my hand and fell on the bus floor it was barely 2 feet. The drive stopped working. I had to pay him for the drive and it was an embarrassing moment too .

As always in point review nothing more nor less, the story 2 months ago a friend that knows nothing about computers called me screaming her work was lost on her computer, I changed the HD to ssd took the old HD for 2 days working on it till I managed 80 % of the data back and she was crying out happiness for saving her work 😉

This concern piqued my interest, given that the SSD boasts an IP65 rating for dust resistance. I'm curious to know if this dust accumulation is a normal occurrence or if it could indicate a manufacturing defect.

Thanks for the give-away. I'm an old fart and can remember terrible times trying to get SCSI to work on my old Macs. Heaven forbid you wanted to use a scanner too. I even demo'd for Apple at a Fry's store when the first iMac came out and everyone was really excited about USB. I'm currently using a salvaged HDD from my (recently) broken laptop as project file storage as all I could afford as a student is a 256gb Laptop. Things are going okay right now so I'm not sure if I'd shell out money that could be better spent for my health for a new drive. I hope it lasts me through my final year in college as a computer engineer! I won't be too sad if I don't get picked but I hope whoever gets the drive deserves it :DD
i had a 2TB T7, with my imac and 14inch MBP fully spec'd transferring large amounts of data , the transfer speed was good at the beginning but dropped to less than 100mb/s after a few minutes of transfer. Some other You Tube users of the T7 also have had this problem. So have you tested the Shield with say 500GB transfer and see if the transfer speed is sustained at a high rate? Be good to know
i dont know if it is high rate but it take my shield t7 2/3 hours to transfers my 500gb steam data from western digital ssd to samsung shield t7 but i think it should be faster if i transfer video instead steam file
I honestly wouldn't mind the blue one. Nice videoo man I run a small business and use a laptop back and forth from work and my home office. All my files were automatically backed up onto a little budget NAS as soon as I went home and also backup into an external HDD when I go into the office. When my laptop’s HDD failed I tried to recover the files from the NAS and during the recovery, the NAS drive decided to fail also! Though it was frustrating, I wasn’t worried since there was another backup that was on the HDD at the office. The next morning, I went into work, ready to recover the lost files, and to my bad luck, it also failed. From all the failed drives, I managed to lose all my work files and also 10 years worth of photos and archive. This incident is now referred to as the ZERO DAY CRASH lol

I'd love the blue colour too!! Have been using a Seagate external HDD that my dad bought ages ago and it's definitely on its last legs. Things so ancient that it requires an external wall power source. This would be a nice upgrade!

remember alway made back up, so you need 2 hdd or one hdd+one ssd, if the hdd is compromise at least your file is saved on the other hdd or ssd 😊

I think the silicone is just prone to catching dust...

I like the black color. I had a few pen drives and microsd cards fail on me (never lost anything important) but I never had any hard drive failures

I'm currently using a salvaged HDD from my (recently) broken laptop as project file storage as all I could afford as a student is a 256gb Laptop. Things are going okay right now so I'm not sure if I'd shell out money that could be better spent for my health for a new drive. I hope it lasts me through my final year in college as a computer engineer! I won't be too sad if I don't get picked but I hope whoever gets the drive deserves it :DD

i had a 2TB T7, with my imac and 14inch MBP fully spec'd transferring large amounts of data , the transfer speed was good at the beginning but dropped to less than 100mb/s after a few minutes of transfer. Some other You Tube users of the T7 also have had this problem. So have you tested the Shield with say 500GB transfer and see if the transfer speed is sustained at a high rate? Be good to know
i dont know if it is high rate but it take my shield t7 2/3 hours to transfers my 500gb steam data from western digital ssd to samsung shield t7
but i think it should be faster if i transfer video instead steam file

I run a small business and use a laptop back and forth from work and my home office. All my files were automatically backed up onto a little budget NAS as soon as I went home and also backup into an external HDD when I go into the office. When my laptop’s HDD failed I tried to recover the files from the NAS and during the recovery, the NAS drive decided to fail also! Though it was frustrating, I wasn’t worried since there was another backup that was on the HDD at the office. The next morning, I went into work, ready to recover the lost files, and to my bad luck, it also failed. From all the failed drives, I managed to lose all my work files and also 10 years worth of photos and archive. This incident is now referred to as the ZERO DAY CRASH lol

Have been using a Seagate external HDD that my dad bought ages ago and it's definitely on its last legs.
Things so ancient that it requires an external wall power source.
This would be a nice upgrade!
