@Patty False you have pop singers like justin timberlake who has poor technique but he's famous. Plus it varies on the song the judges feel is appropriate for the music views.
I watched John Park-Falling performance and what I thought is "Wow!! He's great singer!" And now I just knew that he auditioned American Idol before?! Lol Nice to see he is succeed in korea. ^^
he's definitely improved since his run on American idol. His more recent performance of this song with the live band was just incredible. gave me goosebumps. good for him.

I'm Asian also and I'm also taking voice lessons, I think it is hard to get into emotion with the song and I'm trying hard to sing songs with feels. I don't think the judges were being racist or harsh on him at all, they're being honest. It was an ok performance he didn't really feel the song because it's hard, English is his 2nd language. The comments are really important to take in.

Considering that most American Idol winners end up being nonexistent after the show, I would say the judges are pretty deaf
