  • The original McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle may rightfully be considered one of the most iconic and effective fighters of the 20th Century. Yet, the next-generation F-15 Short Take-Off and Landing Maneuver Technology Demonstrator, ahead of its time when first launched in the late 1980s, set the stage for a brand-new dawn in the next century. Soaring through the skies with extraordinary aerobatic finesse, this superpowered Eagle proudly showed off its pioneering design and next-level capabilities.
By incorporating advanced thrust vectoring controls and canards, this futuristic flying machine could pull off daring aerial maneuvers, take off with incredibly low rotation speeds, and land on remarkably short runways. This was a leap forward from its predecessors and contemporaries. Even NASA made sure it got hold of the aircraft to test their most innovative new technologies.
Thanks to the progress made by the revolutionary F-15 S-T-O-L M-T-D project, the world has borne witness to the development of a new generation of aircraft that have come to dominate the ever-changing face of modern warfare, such as the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, as well as the F-35 Lightning II.

Very good material. Maybe one note, you should add more F-15S/MTD footages at the section of the S/MTD, instead of the F-15ACTIVE sceens. Even if the S/MTD and the ACTIVE was actually the very same aircraft, the S/MTD had the good old F100PW100 with the box shape 2D thrust vectoring system, equipped with a unique thrust reverser, while in the ACTIVE era, the aircraft got the more powerful F100PW229 with the P/YBBN 3D nozzles. As shown in your video.

    Beautiful plane.
I remember reading one of the many technothrillers in the mid to late 80s, which had this fighter go up against a thought-controlled X-29 derived fighter plane (having been stolen by a Soviet sleeper agent).

Thanks for posting this! While far from an expert, I love aviation and have extensively researched many aircraft. The F-15 is without question, near the top of my list for military aircraft. That said, I learned several things from this video that I’d not known. The most incredible of those was the speed capability (M2.5-2.9). I’m not sure if my research had incorrect info or I happened to look over it. Thanks again! 👍🏽

To be honest, after seeing the dismal failures of Russian hardware in Ukraine, I believe the new F-15EX can defeat any fighter Russia has in its inventory today. Even though the F-15EX’s primary mission is not to be a dog fighter as its primary role, I believe it will have superb enhancements. But none the less, it will have the latest engines a gen 4.5 airframe, with 5th Gen avionics and radar. Not to mention the latest in air to air missile technology.

The American hardware is not fairing well in Ukraine either

@@roryhennessey8836 HAHAHAHA! Completely false!!!! We have yet to give Ukraine anything modern. All of the hardware we’ve given them is three or more decades old! The Hawk SA missile we gave them are 45 years old!!!! The Javelin’s we gave them are 30 years old and are the Gen 1.3’s. They’re in Gen 4.2 now and those are reserved for America’s own troops.
