De Niro's mirror scene where he says "you talking to me?" in Taxi Driver is one of the all time chilling and scary scenes. For a non horror movie that's a horror scene.
As far as WW2 movies go, I don't think it's that well known tbh, but I'd put up Bruno Ganz in Downfall. I can't think of another actor who's even come close to playing Hitler as well as him.
Daniel Day-Lewis as William Cutting in Gangs of New York for me & I'll just chuck this one out there as its not a very well-known movie, but if u ever get a chance or especially enjoy WW2 movies then plz check out Bruno Ganz's portrayal as Hitler in a movie called Downfall, its an incredible performance & the only actor I've ever seen come close to pulling him off. R.I.P Bruno
F. Murray Abraham in "Amadeus", he perfectly masters his role, The scene where he literally lives the musical scores or cant' follow Mozart when composing the Requiem...
My favorite acting performance of all time is Brendan Fraser in The Whale. As I watch, he's completely transformed into a 600 Ibs man, and it isn't just the makeup and fat suit that creates the illusion. He makes me completely forget about "movie magic" and brings the character to life. It makes me completely forget he was also George of the Jungle.
Great list! I'm especially glad to see Naomi Watts on the list. She's drastically under appreciated and has to be considered as one of the top actresses of the modern era. And in the same vein, Toni Collette in Hereditary. It was a crime to not give her the Oscar for that role!
Leonardo DiCaprio in Django Unchained. Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder. Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Charlize Theron in Monster. Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront. Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice. James Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life. Robert DeNiro in Raging Bull. Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump. Denzel Washington in Malcolm X. Humphrey Bogart in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Peter Finch in Network. Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction. Elizabeth Taylor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Ellen Burstyn in Requiem For a Dream.
Seeing this list made me realise we have had too many iconic roles and actors that top 10 list won't do it. We need a top 50 or 100 atleast to respect all those perfomances.
Brando in Apocalypse Now, Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now, Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Toni Collette in Hereditary, I can go on and on...
This list is decent, and of course every ranking is subjective. Here is my opinion: Performances you missed: Ellen Burstyn in Requiem for a dream Meryl Streep in Sophies Choice Matthew McConaughey in True Detective Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting Laurence Olivier in Richard III. Charlize Theron in Monster Elizabeth Taylor in Who is afraid of Virginia Wolf Christian Bale in American Psycho
Off the top of my head: - J Nicholson, as good as it gets - K Spacey, american beauty - L Di Caprio, the departed - R De Niro and S Connery, the untouchables - J Pesci, Casino - W Smith, pursuit of happiness - M McConaughey, true detective - T Hanks, Philadelphia - R De Niro, awakenings
Anthony Perkins in Psycho. Gene Kelly in Singin in the Rain. Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Gregory Peck in Mockingbird. Robin Williams in Dead poet society. Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump and in Philadelphia. Peter Finch in Network.
To recommend a few movies that you might not know about: Sibel Kekilli from Head-On (film) (Gegen die Wand) Adrien Brody from The Pianist Jean-Hugues Anglade and Isabelle Adjan: La Reine Margot (1994 film) Love the movies and the acting. Also liked Pacino better in Scarface than in Godfather.
Johnny Depp - in Pirates of Caribbean Jeff Bridges - in The Big Lebowsky Emilio Echevarria - in Amores Perros Lena Olin - in Unbearable lightness of being Znigniew Zamachowsky - in Three colours (white)
Picking the movies that Brando and DDL are best in, is pretty much impossible. They are so amazing in many roles. I think clearly the 2 best actors in cinema history. My personal favorite though is Nicholson. LOL, Jack always plays Jack though he doesnt transform into another human being like Brando and DDL do.
I was waiting for DDL in the list and finally it came on number 1, brilliant. Just on the lighter note DDL performance as Bill The Butcher wasn't too bad either.
Antony Starr - Homelander (The Boys), Lucas Hood (Banshee) Tobey Maguire - Sam Cahill (Brothers), Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Spider-Man franchise) J. K. Simmons - Fletcher (Whiplash), J. Jonah Jameson (Spider-Man franchise), Omni-Man (Invincible, voicing) Jake Gyllenhaal - Antony Swofford (Jarhead), Loki (Prisoners) Aaron Paul - Jesse Pinkman (Breaking Bad, El Camino) Giancarlo Esposito - Stan Edgar (The Boys), Gustavo "Gus" Fring (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) Jonathan Banks - Mike Ehrmantraut (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, El Camino) Stefán Karl Stefánsson - Robbie Rotten (Lazytown) 🥀 Jim Carrey - Stanley Ipkis / The Mask (The Mask) Joakin Phoenix - Arthur Fleck / Joker (Joker)
sidney poitier in heat of the night. vivian leigh in gone with the wind. Cary Grant in North by northwest. Laurence Olivier in Spartacus. Spencer Tracy - the old man and the sea. Matt Dillon in L.A. Crash. Gary Cooper in High Noon. Henry Fonda in Grapes of Wrath.
Christopher Walz as Landa..... Joachim Phoenix in the first Joker movie. Crowe and Phoenix in Gladiator... RDJ in Iron Man and Tropic Thunder. DiCaprio in Wall street, Revenant and Django.....
That thumbnail is so valid. DDL excelled at the role of Daniel Plainview. Even though he may be a terrible human. We love him in that movie and we want him to win. And tbf he's not the only real villain. Eli Sunday was the one who manipulated his own family and bugged Daniel all through the film. You can say Paul Dano's character is the true villain
I really like your list and like that you also have included series, but I think that it is a huge mistake that you have not included Maria Falconetti for her performance in The Passion of Joan of Arc. In my opinion it is a top 3 performance of all time,, but perhaps you haven't seen that movie.
What performances I have missed?
De Niro's mirror scene where he says "you talking to me?" in Taxi Driver is one of the all time chilling and scary scenes. For a non horror movie that's a horror scene.
Christian Bale as Batman, George Clooney as Michael Clayton, Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now
If you're including tv performances chuck or Jimmy from better call saul would definitely be eligible.
@@sidarth632 You're right!
@@CinePrimeEnglish Keanu Reeves as John Wick, and Neo in the Matrix, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, the whole X Men cast essentially
Christoph waltz for the role of Landa in Inglorious Basterds definitely deserves a shout

@@JONOSEMTEXDownfalls an incredibly underrated movie
Lets not forget Christoph Waltz's Hans Landa. Absolutely mesmerising and terrifying without trying to be . Thats great acting.

Al Pacino, the scent of a woman, final speech, just pure goosebumps
Le meilleur monologue de toute l'histoire du cinéma
Number one.. Daniel day lewis
F. Murray Abraham in "Amadeus", he perfectly masters his role, The scene where he literally lives the musical scores or cant' follow Mozart when composing the Requiem...
Marlon brando in The Streetcar Named Desire is definitely up there in the list of the greatest performances!
Robert De niro's Raging Bull is arguably greatest performance of all time. He did everything possible for one role. Perfect in all around film.
Ralph Fiennes in Schindlers List was amazing!!
Better than Neeson as Schindler imo, he was terrifying as Amon Goëth. Someone I didn't think he'd be able to pull off at the time but killed it 💯
that was the one i was hoping to see on the list.
My favorite acting performance of all time is Brendan Fraser in The Whale. i'm glad you remembered malcom mcdowell, such an underrated performance
Denzel Washington in Training Day and Malcom X!! At least one of them has to be here.
Rip Shelley Duval, Marlon Brando, Heath Ledger, and James Gandolfini😢
Kind of surprised to see Mulholland Drive on here but I’m glad it is, love that movie and that performance
One of my fav movies😃
Great list!
I'm especially glad to see Naomi Watts on the list.

It was a crime to not give her the Oscar for that role!
Thanks!!! I also love Toni Collete in Hereditary bro
Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice would be on any list related to this topic
I couldn't agree more about #1.
Sean Penn in Mystic River & I am Sam
Breaking Bad and The Sopranos aren’t actually cinema, they’re television.
Indeed. Acting in television should have been a different video.
Choi min sik in Oldboy deserves a spot too

Off the top of my head:

Leonardo Di Caprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Charlize Theron in Monster should have been in the list.
100% agree on Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood. I don't think I've ever seen an actor lose themselves so completely in a role.
Number one of this list is true number one.
Edward Norton - American History X and Denzel Washington - Training day both must be in this list.
Joaquin Phoenix in Joker. Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot.
Al Pacino in Scarface!

Brando in Street Car

Natalie Portman in Black Swan and Claire Danes in Homeland are my faves
While all this stuff is subjective anyway, I must say this is a great list.

There are amaizing performances outside of Hollywood you know?
What a coincidence, all 15 best performances in cinema history are from Hollywood.
George C. Scott in Patton
Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane
Very good list. Of course, it's subjective, but clearly, you love cinema and acting. I would suggest you also consider F. Murray Abraham in "Amadeus."
I think you truly missed a bunch of great performances by Meryl Streep
I don't know in which position but for me Amadeus' Salieri is missing...which for me is number one
Eric Roberts in “Star 80” is top 5

Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon
