      Thanks.. ye afbau principle hai.. ki pehle single electrons fill karte hain .. baad me pairing hota hai.. agar electrons kam hai to singles hi rehte hain..

    This video was very helpful, I totally understand which are bonding and which are antibonding, but am still confused were it says that oxygen is 16 electrons and only 12 electrons are fill in the molecules, my question is why and what about the empty ones. Thanks for the video.

      As 1s orbital of Oxygen is inner shell, they don't take part in bonding, so 4 electrons of 1s orbitals remains as it is, they are not shown in molecule, as they remain with each atom.

      It dosent matter, you can choose any axis as overlapping axis, here I have taken z- axis from where two atoms are approachhing, and start overlapping. So what ever bond takes place in the direction of overlap, will be sigma bond. in this case 2pz. and it will have lower energy. Other two will have pi bonds and will have higher energy.

    How to find the no of electrons?

      It is the total number of electrons with each atom for example in O2 there are two Oxygen atoms, and each oxygen atom is having 8 electron, so no of electron with O2 will be 8+8 = 16
