This guy is right, I had to see for myself. I'm a huge fan of my helinox sunset chair but I decided to buy the helinox playa beach chair and the Kelsyus and the Kelsyus just feels more comfortable!
I adore the Kelysus! I have had these for at least 20 years. One has rusted and broke, one got eaten by something in my shed. I buy a new one or two every time I find them super cheap. I like the solid fabric (which they don't seem to make anymore) and I REALLY miss the sun shade that used to go with these. They looked like a giant pringle chip that pops open and attaches...I still have 5 of those left...awesome item. We never go to the beach without them.
I bought both and tried both. This guy is 100% right. The Kelsyus chair was so much more comfortable than the overpriced Helinox. Sent that Helinox back so fast for a refund. And bought 2 more Kelsyus chairs.
I think comparison is not very accurate, since the Helinox chair is from the lightweight and compact category. I'm looking at it since I use such chairs when travel abroad with a cabin bag only and my previous Nemo Moonlite has broken.
We have used “camping” type chairs at the beach and sand got stuck in the legs and make it hard to open and close. Have you found this to be a problem at all?
I have a chair exactly like that Kelsyus except it's not mesh and made by BoCamp. I'm not heavy, but the fabric is a little torn and unstitched in one place but it's still useable. It's also very comfortable, and I appreciate you pointing out the comfort of the armrests. I would not recommend it though if moving around by bike or on foot is an important part of what you plan to do. It is definitely too large and heavy for that, even though it has some sort of backpack design when folded. I also have a Helinox Chair One which is extremely solid and still looks like new after four years. I use it with tennisballs for use in loose sand. If you cut the holes on the small side they will stay on when you lift the chair. One other advantage of the Kelsyus/BoCamp (besides armrests, and probably a bit more comfort over-all) is that it's far less likely to be taken by the wind simply because of the weight. Those Helinox chairs are so light, you really have to cling on to them when it's a bit windy.
My favorite part of the review was the dramatization of what it's like to sit in the Kelsyus chair on the beach...eyes closed and really feeling beachy.
