I’m the guy who wrote that Ford Bantam ad. Took me four years to sell that idea to the client. 😂 18 years later it’s still out there getting views. 🤣🙌 Thanks for sharing.
Interesting fact: The man in the second ad showcasing the courier guy's self defense moves is actually a money transport security guard. He survived a high-profile transit money heist that was captured on a dash camera over a year ago. It was a major news story in South Africa.
6:40 - The farmer and his wife, Hettie, are having romantic problems, he then met a doctor in town who said "You have to be sexy to attract her". Since he's a farmer, he heard "You have to be sexy to a tractor". Hence the hipnotic vibes. Lol
A cop pulled my husband over and saw a packet of peanuts on the passenger seat. He asked my husband if he could have it. My husband gave it to him joyfully. The cop joyfully let him go😂 nothing like the risky ad though lol
The second add. With the self-defense, each move's name demonstrated is a play on a south african personellity name or place that had significance to the name. Also the demonstrator is the real life security guard who went viral when he avoided a highjacking.
The courier guy vid is a classic....thebackground is that the guy demonstrating was made famous because he was the driver of a cash in transit truck that they tried to force off the road and the in vechile camera footage was posted to youtube giving the guy Chuck Norris status
The security guard is seen taking automatic rifle fire and finally climbing out of the vehicle with his rifle to take on the attackers with his rifle . Real classic Chuck Norris.
As a South African I can confirm I have been stopped by a cop and we chatted and laughed about what I had for lunch.. we greeted eachother laughing and I went home
Thank you, I was looking for the words to say exactly this. They actually have no business critiquing out ads simply coz they wouldn't understand most of them. "Outlandish" 😂 they have no idea
You guys are so much fun! From a born & bred South African!!! I'm halfway through and stopped to pop this comment. Imma gonna keep goin'. You guys bring back memories like craaazy man! ❤❤❤
The Nando's advert is the best, because here in SA our cops ask you to 'give them something something for lunch', and if you do, they let you go without giving you a ticket. Welcome to the Land of Corrupt Officials 😅
The one with the tractor the guy says that him and his wife has some marital problems and the English doctor in town said he must do something to "attract her" miss understood by the Afrikaans farmet as " a tractor"
The joke about the tractor is: he's been to the medical doctor, who suggested to something sexy to his wife to attract her. He interpreted to a tractor. Word games. The Afrikaans English jokes are very popular
Just love the one with the perfume "Come to me" This is like reality esp the lady with the darker hair the saleslady played the role well. And I am sure our American friends will agree not just here in SA, but in America also you get such people... So they really did this ad so so nicely😄
that second skit the guy was in an actual cash in transit heist, he is really tough and cool for real, there is a video out of the dashcam when it happened. 😆
The funniest SA ad I’ve seen was a Toyota bakkie one, where the young farmer type guy gets out of his bakkie and then spots a pretty girl He then goes into a shop and comes out with a haircut, clean shaven and wearing a nice pink shirt to impress the lady Then he tries to unlock the bakkie and it won’t unlock for him. He stands there begging the bakkie and says, come on man, it’s me! I’m just wearing a different shirt!
Y’all need a South African to hop on these with you to help you out. That would be fun. 😋 I’m South African btw. Wink wink nudge nudge. And I speak Afrikaans. Double wink wink nudge nudge. There’s actually so much more in some of these ads that you guys would fall over laughing if it was explained. 😂
I think you guys missed s o meshing in the delivery guy add. The instructor doing the defensive demonstrations is famous for fouling a cash in transit heist he was driving for.
Savanna Dry's tagline is "It's dry but you can drink it." So I'm not sure if they are still doing that trend, but for some time the theme behind their ads was dry humour. Hence the "monkey stole my Savanna" joke.
I lived in USA for four years and one of the things I miss was our South African commercials. By the way the doctor told the guy having ‘love problems’ he had to ‘act sexy to attract her’. But he heard ‘act sexy to a tractor 🚜’.
We have billboards that say somebody just got naked in a lecture room or something. It’s an advert for an insurance company😅. I wondered what my 12 year old thought when he read that. I know it’s a joke, but …
Lol SA sense of humor is built different. Most of the ads are more of "what was said vs what they heard" at 5:00 n 6:30 they gave him advice to "do something to attract her", but he heard "do something to a Tractor" The bear 1 was more of what South Africans decide is normal n not normal. In that case the bear was normal
South Africa is very unique (maybe as every other country) with a specific kind of humour... add the slang in the differenr languages, the every day life challenges, the types of adds (and many more) the background for many of these adds, and only then can you begin to understand the humour.
The uncle that was dancing sex in front of the tractor is Afrikaans and understood the advise wrong by thinking he must dance sexy in front of the tractor instead of dancing to attract her (meaning his wife) 😂😅
The dance add was kinda funny because they named the dance moves, for example fitting jeans, the guy dancing looked like he was fitting jeans in a store. So the commercial was a little funny
The traffic stop isn't saying... our traffic cops in the north of the country are so corrupt, you can give them R100 to let you go instead of a fine. Buy you KFC is the euphemism 😉

The "Come to me" commercial was actually a TV skit made in the UK by British actors. Google "Air Afrikaans". South Africans mostly found this offensive and degrading. I certainly did. I don't know who co-opted it as a commercial.
He one with the dancing is just showing "dance moves" people use to practice for all the swiping they will be doing with their credit card to rack up points. The dance moves are actually moves which are done by people.
He is an Afrikaner not English man so he went to a doctor cause he had a problem so the English doctor suggested that “he must do something to attract her” so he thought the doctor said he must do something to a tractor 🚜
Let me explain. The counselor told him to do something sexy to attract his wife. But when you say it fast it sounds like do something sexy to a tractor (instead of attract her) and with us having 11 official languages, Afrikaans people are the funniest when it comes to discerning English 😂
Backstory on the courier ad where the guard is teaching self defence... That particular guard in the ad was involved in a real life cash in transit heist. The video went viral this side. Him and his partner were like in a real life gun battle with dudes who hit licks on these cash delivery vans. So he like blew up because of that strory cause they handled that situation like a boss and like it was just a story in which nobody died. Should check the video out.
