Part 1 - Spekboom at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve

"With spekboom all of the plant is useful. The roots store a lot of carbon, they allow infiltration into the soil from rainfall events, and from the leaves we get a lot of water."
Craig Sholto-Douglas, Environmental Manager at Kwandwe, explains why spekboom is integral to the rehabiliation of land at Kwandwe. Due to historic mismanagement and unsustainable farming practices, large parts of the reserve's thickets were destroyed. Spekboom is now being employed to return the earth to its full ecological function.
