I mean, let’s be honest. Not a lot of people wanna join book club with blade or shop class with Peter. They could’ve kept the high school stuff and just focused on the combat. 💯
@@wherethegreatestplay3529 I disagree. Getting to know the characters on a personal level is what makes Marvel so great. Spider-Man is great because Peter Parker is a great character. To be a great character, we have to get to know him personally. These clubs provide a way to do that, in addition to the item/card benefits.

I love this game, been playing new game plus currently after having beat it when it first released. The card thing initially turned me off when it was first shown in the trailer but after playing it it was the best choice . Love the strategy
I thought the cards would be an issue for me too, but I think they are actually very well done. Not too many, but still enough to vary your builds a little bit. I'm getting ready to start a new game plus also!
Yeah there’s so much potential for many of those things to be fleshed out in a sequel. A shame it didn’t sell better. I think everyone was just wanting a button masher akin to the Marvel ultimate Alliances.
You're probably right. I feel like Midnight Suns has kind of had a resurgence of sorts lately though, once people gave it a chance and the rough launch stuff was over. Holding out hope for another 🤞
I'm super addicted to it right now. I think the combat improves on Xcom. Like you say, "it always feels fresh" whereas Xcom's combat can feel repetitive and stale. I also like that you can take missions when you choose to rather than being interrupted and forced to in Xcom's geoscape, and exploring the Abby is a nice break from combat between missions. Not a huge fan of friendship building, and not sure why Firaxis thought that would be a good use of RPG mechanics. However, I think the biggest problem is that MMS doesn't have the same hook as Xcom. Xcom is immediately addictive whereas MMS you have to stick with it for a while before it starts to click. Maybe those reasons are enough to deter people but I think this game is smart and original. It's comparably as fun and satisfying as Xcom and I don't understand why it's not more popular. It's been said that turn based tactics is a niche genre and even a mainstream interest like superheroes would not be enough to draw in a bigger audiences. It's really about Xcom. I guess turn based tactics fans want more Xcom, full stop. Personally, I just like fun games which MMS most certainly is.
I agree with all of your takes on the game - trying to get my supplies scan done on the geoscape while missions keep popping up 😵💫😆 the friendship building isn't necessarily bad but it just feels somewhat forced and runs a little too long too often in my opinion. The hook part I agree with too - I honestly almost quit in that first few hours where its cutscene after cutscene and not a lot of options or autonomy, as opposed to xcom gatecrasher where the stakes are immediately high and you can lose your anchor rookies. Im torn a little bit as to what went wrong with MMS - maybe it really is all XCOM all the time genre, but it's hard to believe that the scope of the playerbase is really that narrow. Midnight Suns had some launch missteps, early performance problems, in game currency and the season pass model that I think put people off, As well as the card system that is a surprisingly strong deterrent. Or Maybe I'm just too hopeful that the genre can innovate and really make its way forward whether it's XCOM or not 😆
I think the main story leans too hard on the heroes bickering with each other (a sadly common problem in Marvel's comics), but the side content for the characters and the combat are top-notch. I could do without the Abbey mysteries, but everything else is a fun gameplay loop that has kept me coming back for more.
I agree the bickering got to be a bit much sometimes. The Abbey felt cool at first but eventually kind of turned into tuned out busy work. Not bad enough to make me not enjoy the game however!
Friggin found you in a Xcom 3 discussion video but you got that X factor. As for the Marvel Midnight Suns.. the only thing I wish it was like "Marvel Ultimate Alliance" where it crosses through alot of interesting areas. For me I would buy this and try it.. but making a Table Top Boardgame xox.

I was able to score the ultimate edition for $29.99 several weeks after it released. For 30 bucks, a decent buy imo. This game had an interesting and tortured development. It was originally supposed to be for mobile devices. Something happened with Marvel and 2K and then Firaxis was forced to conver it to consoles. Firaxis wanted creative freedom with the project, and the idea for a main playable character spawned. Marvel told them ok, so long as they distinguished it from the licensed work. That's why they are called Midnight *Suns* instead of The Midnight Sons. The story is not canon, and has no relation to the comics. It bombed pretty hard, and most of the folks associated with the project moved on from Firaxis.

However, like you also stated, Firaxis isn't what we knew anymore and we really have no idea what to expect from them in the turn based tactics genre moving forward.
