I absolutely love the big guys like Romeo. My first was supposedly a Boxer mix who weighed 102 pounds. And now I'm raising a Boxer/Great Pyrenees who already weighs over 80 pounds at only 11 months old. In my life there is nothing better than great big cuddly puppy love. ❤
Its hard not to fall for a nice dog like Romeo, but if youre in the market for a dog, remember that youre not just buying a dog but a future sorrow aswell, and unfortunately Dogue de bordeaux have been topping the charts of shortest living dog breeds :(
@@farrgonethat's crazy, I have a few dogs around that age and some are just starting to show their age a bit, one I bring around and people comment that she still seems like a puppy.
I grew up with a Bordeaux dog, he was the first dog I met:) Our Bordeaux dog could hold a soccer balll in his mouth and destroy it in one bite. Big gentle giant guard dog. I have some really fond memories of that big guy. Also they can drool a lot! When I was baptized, the pastor came to our house for coffee and that big dog just slobbered all over his fancy black suit.
More and more I'm liking that little Boykin a LOT. Very consistent with what I've seen in my cousin's little Boykin. Good little dogs. And then there's that grocery-burner and mega poop factory. Him's a good boy, doing good at learning how to use that big ol' bag of dog meat and bones. God bless you, Stonnie in your efforts.
I love Dogue de Bordeaux's, I got one crossed with Staffy, but Bordeaux have so many health issues reason we don't see many in the UK, I got a friend who had them all her life and the oldest lived till 6, I think she's had 6 in total so far and the others died before they were 5, I know 2 of hers died at 3 with heart issues, but they are so loving she just can't help herself by keeping them. Gorgeous dogs, I do know the breed is recovering.
Been waithing for this video of the dogue de bordeaux!!! Thanks very much! Lovely to see dogs like this!! Been thinking about this dog or a rhodesian Ridgeback. Different dogs but we had a rhodesian. So the love for that breed is still there but only doubting the huge amount off excersize this dog will need again. But then again they are healtier than a dogue de bordeaux. Would not be easy to lett your dog go when he is still young. A lott to think about. Thanks for your video! Always like them!
Of those dogs, I would pick the Boykin in one second. The only Dogue de Bordeaux that I knew was an absolute sweetheart, but suffered from heartbreaking joint issues from a very early age. That poor thing could barely walk.
I have labs and my brother has a couple bull mastiffs that I watch for him. Romeo is just like every mastiff in that they’re fairly low energy and will literally nap all day. I tell folks that come over not to worry because they’re like giant cats that lie around all day. 😂 however, on the flip side, every time I saw Romeo come running up to, it was the typical freight train that mastiffs do. They were bred to knock over intruders and keep them down by standing on them. Also, a funny movie with a dog de Bordeaux is Turner & Hooch. If you want to be entertained, that’ll do it. 😂
This video is an early Christmas present- I am Romeo's number one fan! great to see him out and about loved his enthusiasm with the shepherd. Perfect recall too! What a dude!!!! We have a great little GSP who I refer to as my gym membership but love the idea of a mastiff type to complement that as only have enough energy for one sports dog, this was a really good video highlighting the approach to training and energy levels etc. Thanks uncle Stonnie!
someone I knew had one of these - it was just like this one till about 18 months, super friendly and playful - then he started getting very dominant to the other dogs and a bit aggressive. The owner wasn't able to physiclaly control him and she was getting pulled around - even got pulled out in to the road when the dog went for a squirrel or somerthing. She stopped coming to our meet ups as she was worried about what was happening - haven't seen her in over a year now.
I grew up with a Bullmastiff since I was a toddler to when I was in first grade. He was great with me. I lied on him like a pillow, and he would lie with me. In addition, I played with his ears, which he had no problem with. But most importantly, he and I were never left alone. We were always supervised by my parents. When I went into first grade, my parents had to find him a new home. They got new jobs, and it was becoming challenging to care for both of us.
Romeo is such a cutie! I love mastiff breeds, but I don't think I would be able to deal with all of that drool inside of my house...lol. But they are such gorgeous dogs, love them. Can you do a Chow Chow video at some point Stonnie? Thanks! 👍👍
Is there a way that you could do a video like this but about Dobermans, they seem to have spiked in popularity so it would be nice to see guide with your way of thinking
Romeo is a nice dog but after having to put down our Great Dane at 6 1/2 due to hereditary DCM, I couldn’t do another short lived dog. Not to mention the drooling is a dealbreaker as our GD was the European style that flung his spit everywhere when he’d shake his head. Both wonderful breeds but they leave our lives too quickly. Now on the other hand, I have a young Field Spaniel which is similar to that Boykin…yes he is steady energy so he isn’t hi strung…a nice match for me as he can adjust to my energy level. Sweet dogs but can definitely be willful.

We fostered one who was in rescue. I would have adopted him, but I was going in for open heart surgery. He was awesome!!
Who could resist an adorable puppy face like Romeo! 🫠
Romeo sure has grown! He's really coming along nice.
Great review. I've had 6 Bordeauxs all together. Great breed. When full grown they could do an hour walk every day. Sweet dogs.

Very unfortunate. I still can't understand why they only live 6-8 years 😒

Look at those paws! Beautiful

Lovely mix of dogs there. Looks like fun. Romeo looked like he was enjoying himself there.
I would love to see more of these kinds of videos in particular about the vizsla breed!

Oh my goodness I just love that face.

I drool too 😉🤤
He looks like an AMAZING dog! would LOVE to find one just like him!
Look at the shepherd and terriers! Mind coggs spinning, constantly 😂 mastiff is pure chill 😎
He’s a big cutie pie! ❤

I want to see Boykin training! I have one of those sweet monsters!
He's awesome but short life is heart breaking.
😂My dog just came to the whistle.
Thank you!
Would love to see a Border Terrier in your pack!
fine dog uncle stonnie
I'd like to see the South African Boerboel in the future 😊
That Boykin was the least responsive to the come-back whistle...hahaha.
Thank you.
Nice to see Hank again. Considering the right Catahoula as a possibility in the future.

Great video. Would love a video on the Boykin I’ve never seen one before. Are they good family dogs ?
Not for me, but I understand the attraction.

Hi Stonnie! I’m looking for an english black lab… wondering if you had some good breeders in mind? Thanks!
Every time you use that dog whistle my Shepherd Mix stops what she’s doing and looks at you, what brand is it? I gotta get one Stonnie!
Mastiffs r the best dogs out there. I own a bullmastiff and he is the easiest dog you could ever have.
Neighbour of me has a Bordeaux dog who is at least twice as big as this one !
I would expect a dog that would ultimately weigh about 150 pounds would be hard to handle unless he was well trained at an early age.
Oh no! Automatic translation for followers in Germany. Is it possible to undo this?
They only live till they're six.
Beautiful dog but mutts are the best.
No, I would never want that breed.
❤
