  • Darren Aronofsky's newest film, The Whale, will melt your heart. Brendan Fraser delivers a tour de force of a performance, Aronofsky captured the pain and sorrow of the main character Charlie so well. This film lives up to the hype, for me. I hope you enjoy!!

Team Brandon all the way!! How did this not get a screenplay Oscar nomination! This is kind of a personal film for me because I knew someone like Charlie although he wasn’t as heavy but as Obese 300 lbs, but still reminded me a lot of my friend who was a kind hearted person despite the issues! Maybe a hard watch but I still need to this!

I’ve been in Brendan’s corner since I was a kid! Perhaps this film will be nominated for an Oscar, whether it be for screenplay, best actor, best picture, etc. i think this film is reaching so many people who may not have expected to relate to the film as well as they did.

5:11 hold up… never has moments where he victimizes himself? He literally spends the entire film victimizing and deprecating himself… he’s no better than Blonde’s interpretation of Marilyn Monroe

i love this movie, being 28 i think it changed me and let me trade charlie perspective, charakter and ideas for my last 12 years - 8 years of relationship, first love, living together loosing it breaking it then trying to rebuild it and failed to do soo, after 4 years of being broken bone to bone mind and heart i was healing, trying to move on, working on myself and still trying to forget and go forward. After being shown perspective of charlie i ve decided to trust him his ideas and emotions i envy him his death and making it all alright in the end. It is not so easy in real life but still if you just let go, trust and stay true some good things are coming back to you :) Bless u guys and gyls.

Beautifully-written words! I agree with everything you said. Just keep going, never stop. That’s what Charlie did in the end.

While there were other movies to see including a 3D Avatar, an action movie "The Plane", et. al., I chose this movie because I was looking forward to something that movies have forgotten about, dialogue. Besides the amazing acting of Fraser, all the rest did their part so well to create a drama that left me, at times, wondering where they were going with particular scenes.
In one way, the movie adapted from an off-Broadway play, seemed at times, staying true to the nature of a play.
I won't get into all the stories that came together in that one apartment, that's opening the floor for debate, and no opinion is wrong. I loved it.
Something better happened for me. As a race, human beings are all about looks. If you see an obese person, that may be all you see, but that's not who we are supposed to be to one another.
This movie went to the heart of Fraser's character, and let the audience see the struggle of obesity and the addiction to food.
Perhaps some people will walk away with more than they bargained for, perhaps they will see people beyond flesh and bone, for what their soul is trying to say. Perhaps the jokes that we say out loud for a quick laugh will someday end.
Finally, when this movie ended, when the screen turned white and the credits rolled, no one, including myself, got up from their seats. We sat there, almost frozen.
This is the type of film, although adapted from a play, is what we all need more of when we sit down to enjoy something on the big screen.

Beautiful words! Well-said. There’s a lot to take away from this kind of film. It was meant to reach us on a more subconscious level, where we take everything in and feel what the characters feel. I choose to see this move over all those other movies too.
