Great run- remembering how much time my family spent with this game(especially my father and both of my older brothers) and comparing those memories to such a perfected speedrun makes me smile!
@@Wooooobrucey Turns out you can completely skip the lights puzzle at the tavern by using the shears on the door, which permanently unlocks it. I also didn't know that until I watched Bigmanjapan's run ua-cam.com/video/fn-9vUsyoJs/v-deo.html.
I have been searching for the name of this game for so long! Oh boy, I remember playing this game when I was a kid and had no idea how to solve it, but it opened my eyes to the wonder of point and click games!
This was fun to watch. I was like 12 when I played this back in the 90s. Didn't have any guides and I sucked. I don't know how long it took to beat. A few days or a few months, can't remember. The hugo trilogy, veil of darkness, kings quest, space quest and police quest series. Man those were good times. Thanks for the upload. Blew me away that this could be beaten in such a short amount of time. I could feel your brain working when putting that rainbow bridge up lol
Ive been stuck for 2 years in the purple anti hypnosis potion preparation, because I was so dumb that I made the potion in the screen with the altar with the question marks, but never occured to me that you had to use it on the altar to finish the preparation. Best Kyrandia of the 3, a great classic and well played
@@jenxness No problem. I love watching your runs. The Kyrandia series is one of may all time favorites. Seeing you slap these sections around that used to take me days to solve is awesome. Congrats on sub 16. AMAZING run!
You are an absolute legend - this run is epic! I've just started exploring Speedrunning and would love to have a go at this game. Did you play just from the GOG download or through the ScummVM application? I'm a bit of a tech noob sorry, but want to make sure our lovely Zanthia moves as quick as she can! Any tips for how you memorised the firefly order with it changing each time, the rainbow room and the 3 heads puzzle at the end? Thanks again, in total awe of your run.
Thank you! Definitely go for it. The three things you mentioned (fireflies, rainbow room, disk puzzle) are the most challenging parts of the run, but they're also the only really hard parts, the rest is pretty chill. I got the game from GOG and ran it as-is (it comes bundled with ScummVM), so no need to do anything special. The fireflies and the skull were the most annoying part for me, but they're also early in the run so if something goes wrong you can always abort. You'll have to experiment with what works best for you in order to memorize the sequence and input it later, I had a sheet of paper and a pencil in front of me and was jotting down the first letters of the colors of the first 5? fireflies and keeping the rest in memory (writing them down was slow). I also had a diagram of the tooth colors on the same piece of paper which I then used to map the colors to the teeth on the spot. As for the heads/disk puzzle at the end (aka Towers of Hanoi) and the rainbow room, all I can say is you have to practice them both. A lot. It's probably going to be frustrating at first but eventually more and more parts of them will start becoming muscle memory, you just have to hang in there. The disk puzzle solution in this run should be optimal so you can just use that, but there might be (and probably are) quicker ways to go about the rainbow room, so if you feel like doing some routing, it might pay off. Good luck!
@@jenxness thanks so much for all that info and the quick reply, really appreciated! I love the order you do the rainbow room in. I think that'll be tough to beat, but it'll be fun to experiment. May I ask how long it took you before you were able to record this run? I'm just curious....but I'm guessing it's months and months of practice!
@@dianacollini508 It's been some time so not 100% sure, but looking at the videos I uploaded around that time it probably took me around a month. (I started running Kyra2 after Kyra3, and there's almost exactly one month between my last Kyra3 video and this one.) I know for a fact that in the beginning I spent a couple of days just trying to come up with a good enough route for the rainbow room (which I rerouted later to what you see here) and practicing both the disks puzzle and the rainbow room in isolation before I went for an actual run. After that I must've spent a couple of weeks running the whole game until I had a run I was kinda happy with (ua-cam.com/video/lejbY_v8J8w/v-deo.html) which I then kept improving on. But in any case, I wouldn't worry too much about how long it takes you to get a good run. You also don't have to memorize anything before you start running, I had notes for both the rainbow room and the disks puzzle in the beginning and was using them for as long as I needed them. So I'd say just take it at whatever pace you feel comfortable, it should first and foremost be fun. :) (Except when the game crashes on you or refuses to take your input. 🙃)
I love this game *so* much.Bonnie Topps was the absolute best pick to vocie Zanthia, and her character was incredibly memorable... And I'd wager a solid inspiration for what sparked my love of smart-ass sassy women. Edit: Holy crap, I still have like... Over half of these in-game conversations memorized, despite not having played this game in over 20 years.
Hi jenx, did you use a specific system to memorize the fruit fly order for this run? I am looking into the game again and that's the biggest issue for me at the moment... 😅
Hey! Yeah, the fireflies were the biggest issue for me too. When I was routing the game for the first time I knew there was no way I could memorize the whole thing without coming up with some sort of elaborate system, and I didn't really feel like doing that since I wanted to just start running the game after I'd already spent quite some time routing it. In the end I never got around to actually finding proper strats for the fireflies. I was always just writing down the first letters of the first couple of colors on a piece of paper and keeping the rest (3-4?) in memory.
I don't think - even having just played it - I could beat the game in less than an hour, let alone under 16 minutes! I absolutely love the Legend of Kyrandia series (the first being my favorite - I found Brandon's dialogue throughout the game to be so great!), although I feel like Legend of Kyrandia 2 was better designed (no mazes! Less random!) but Legend of Kyrandia 3... and the Cat Island is... a nightmare! I recently finished all three (long play and commentary) on my channel.
Just completed this game and it's a solid and zany point and click adventure... much better than the first game in terms of puzzle design. Zanthia is a way better protagonist than Brandon, I reckon. Malcolm was also better.
So you can give blueberries to the fireflies to see the entire sequence at once?? I've always did it manually, like a game of Simon... That's a good thing to know... lol
I can remember when I was 5 or 6 y.o I spent like 3 hours on the 2nd island trying to get to Volcania without knowing English (I'm not native speaker). Anyway, sick run, grats
Fantastic! I stumbled on one of your Lands of Lore runs, as I've been dinking my way through that game for the first time in years... then you're doing Kyrandia runs... which is the other game(s) I've been playing through... If you start uploading Flight Sim2020 and Daggerfall videos, I'll just assume you've broken into my house while I'm at work. Which... is fine. Just remember to take some breaks and give the cats some attention.
Lol, noted! Thanks for the comment. I'm mostly running games I played as a kid, LoL 1 and the three Kyrandias were some of my favorite games back then. Never played Daggerfall -- only got into Elder Scrolls when Oblivion was a thing -- but the screenshots reminded me of the gem of a game that was Might & Magic IX. The random quest-breaking bugs, the awesomely long loading times, the absurdly symmetrical enemy faces! Good times. (As, umm, unpolished as it was, I actually genuinely liked that game. Just for the record.)
Amazing run! Zanthia was a big video game crush for me as a kid. Grr, grr, grr. I've heard it all before, pal.

We need a kyrandia 4 with Marko as the protagonist. He'd be awesome
Have you tried Foxtail? They used a different universe but kept Kyrandian visuals and the vibe.
hey 2 years later and I still like watching this run
Great memories!! :D Thank you!
I cannot believe what I just witnessed! Rainbow room was PERFECTION. You can officially retire from this game a legend of Kyrandia.
