I'm really impressed with the Supertrons. I prefer HS Filtertrons over the TV Jones equivalents but these Supertrons are better, I think. I only wish they had the exposed filister screw covers. Hey, your accent's neat--Russian, Ukraine? Doesn't matter. Greetings from Appalachian Kentucky!
I love Supertrons. Whenever I order them from TV Jones I order them without wax potting. This makes them sound more like vintage 1960's ones. Drier and brighter. They are more prone to feedback that way but also they are more sensitive. A good microphone is the same way.
I've always liked the look of Supertrons, but I'd have preferred it if TV Jones had kept the layered bar Grestch originally used rather than the one piece he went with - Gretsch must've made them that way for a reason. I have a 6128T-59 Duo Jet Firebird which has Powertrons, and a 6199 Billy-Bo (or Jupiter Thunderbird, as it was originally called) which has a Powertron in the neck and a Powertron Plus in the bridge. The Powertron Plus seems to have an almost Strat-like top edge to the tone, which I've never been partial to (I'm a Tele man when it comes to Fenders), but I'm getting used to it! I think there might be a bit too much choice when it comes to pickups these days... 😄
@@jordangibson695 I can't see that several thin layers glued together would be easier to make than one big slug, though. I was wondering if it was something to do with eddy currents, which can suck tone froma pickup - that's the reason a Filtertron has those slots in the top. I was thinking that being separate pieces might break the eddy currents up, whereas one chunk of metal wouldn't.
I have owned several vintage Filtertrons. Some with solid blades and some with laminations. I once did a sound test where I traded the vintage solid and laminated blades in Supertrons and personally I couldn't hear much of a difference. I just assumed that the ones built up from thin laminations were just easier to punch out from sheet metal stock. I DO hear a difference between wax potted and non-wax potted Supertrons and always order the TV Jones versions without wax potting. My guess is that the coils being less restricted to movement with wax makes them less prone to feedback but it kills some of the high end.@@BackToTheBlues
@@jordangibson695 Well, I have to say as you've tried both types of Supertrons you're in a better position to know than me! I've only seen them, never tried them. Maybe I was assuming a bit much thinking about eddy currents. I love the sound of the Powertrons on my '59 style Jet, and the Powertron Plus in the bridge position of my Billy-Bo (though it's taken a while to get used to the amount of top end on it). I do keep thinking of replacing the Black Tops on my 5422 (my Rat Rod has them too, but they have to stay cos the red tops look so cool). They seem a bit underpowered compared to the TV Jones pickups, but when I start playing the tone i just so nice I always change my mind.

Supertrons suit that guitar wonderfully. Good choice.

That's so neat. I have never seen a guitar palm mute itself
I think I like the filter tron best
i just bought a supertron bridge pickup sub to your channel.
For me the Supertrons sounded Thinner that the Filtertrons but that's how they are supposed to be!
Definitely not my cuppa. Good to have a demo showing it though.
I have always preferred the Supertron sound.
I bought the TV Supertrons. They obviuosly don't file the end of the bars like on the original ones. They are very sharp🤔I like the sound anyway🤠👍

I think the layered ones were just easier to manufacture.

My TVs are way too twangy, not sure why..
Am agree supertrons love thes guitars
Supers sound much warmer to me
At least in this video, the Filtertons sound a little tubby in comparison to the Supertrons. The Supertrons have _way_ more chime.
Mario. Love it
👍👍👍
Cut the end of the strings
Shut up.
Or don't cut them. Whatever floats one's boat, eh?
