Looking forward to trying out the new factions, but very interested to just go back and play TI4 base factions with the new tidbits! Thank you for posting this! 🖖
As I find your way of teaching games to be very clear and fast, I would have loved seeing a tutorial about Pax Emancipation, Pendragon: Fall of Roman Empire, High Frontier 4 All, Struggle of Empires, Imperial Struggle and/or Forbidden Stars. I've watched so many tutorials by a ton of different people here on youtube and I still cant find any better than yours for these types of games. JonGetsGames and WatchItPlayed (which usually are my go to tutorials) are mostly about non-confrontational games and they use at least twice the time you use. The fact that you teach Anachrony in 18 minutes, and they use almost an hour to teach something simpler is proof enough...
Thanks! And while I don't know some of those games, the ones I do, I'd be happy to teach. Right now I'm letting my Patreon backers choose which games I cover though.
Quick note as it may have been missed due to the speed: Heroes unlock when you score 3 objectives. Not gain 3 victory points, score 3 objectives. That can be any combination of stage 1, stage 2 (if you are REALLY doing poorly) or Secret objectives.
Also the rules reference a couple times where the Wormhole Nexus activates if you gain control of Mallice. Not 100% sure on how that can happen without moving ships into the sector through the wormhole, but I'm sure there are ways -- I'm thinking actions or an agenda. :)
@@Athenor Correct on both accounts. I'll add a note for the objectives thing. I consider taking control of the planet as falling under the realm of "getting there," but if people get confused I'll correct that too. Thanks for the spots!
I considered it, but the thought of writing 74 more epilogues for a fan-variant that very few people are going to play in the grand scheme of things just didn't add up for me. I'm very proud of the 50 that I did write though!
Great video! I'm so excited to get this to the table even though I can't do a normal 6 player game due to COVID. Now I just have to wait for my preorder to ship.
"You can't keep using board games to escape your problems." Ugh. I felt that. :P Thanks for the great video. I think I'm ready to get destroyed by the other players in my 1st game of TI4 now.
I've thought about it, but as far as I know they don't really change any of the rules. They just replace cards and tokens. I figure people don't really need instructions on that. They are cool though.
@@RTFM I've been struggling between the nomads and the Titans too, but picked the nomads as they use other races as their agents, and it has a hacan commander, who are my all time favourite race. For next game definitely will pick the Titans.
I'd like to request Star Trek Ascendancy with all 9 factions + Borg NPC and Alliances. A video like the TI4 & SW Rebellion vids would be ideal to forward prior to introducing to new players 👌🏻
So I actually let my Patreon backers request and choose which games I teach, but you're in luck, because the next one they've requested was Star Trek Ascendancy. I'm aiming to have all of those videos done by the end of the year.
8:43 When you gain planet cards they are exhausted. But I have 2 questions (1) If you take a planet from another player, and the planet card is unspent, will it become exhausted when you receive it? (2) Are legendary planet cards received exhausted or unspent?
1) Yes, no matter what state it was in, when you take a planet, it becomes exhausted. 2) legendary planet ability cards come into play unspent, but if you take them from another player and the card was exhausted, it remains exhausted.
Can you just add the new tiles to bring the player count up to 7 without the other additions in the expansion? Asking for a group of 7 who have little experience with the base game
To be honest, I haven't actually had a chance to play it yet. I can't really get into online board gaming, and my quarantine bubble doesn't include my regular players. I can tell you that the element I'm most excited about is exploration, and so I'm most eager to play as the Naaz-Rokha. The Titans of Ul also look very fun to me.
@@RTFM I'm so sorry you can't get into online board gaming. I totally get the allure of playing in real life, but I have to say that the TI4 Discord and community are so much fun to play with and retain that social atmosphere! Its the best of what I can find here where I live, so I'll take it, but I'm having a blast playing TI4 online!
@@RTFM the naaz rokha are extremely fun to play. If you can get the promissory note from the titans you can explore 1 of your planets but gain 3 exploration cards. Really nice overview.. Very helpful. I'm a bit surprised they abandoned the modular approach. Not sure some of this added complexity will enhance gameplay (especially the wonky capture stuff).. Some of it looks awesome. It'll be a while, but happy that ffg is fully supporting the game. #distantsuns
I'd love be to know how you organize your game box. Your videos are succinct and to the point, curious if you have similar organizing skills and if so, please share.
Right now I'm just using both boxes and their inserts, though I've seen people store it all in the base box. I am pretty specific about how things are separated, but I don't usually go in for custom organizers or anything like that.
@@burghman81 I just try to keep like with like. There's enough space for everything with the inserts, but the faction tokens do have to be crammed into some of the pockets.

I like it a lot, but I also don't mind that it adds a lot more unknowns to the game. Some people don't like that with all of the new faction-related abilities, it's a lot harder to know what your opponents are capable of, and thus determine an optimal strategy. I don't really play the game with optimal strategy in mind though, so it doesn't bug me. I like hearing an opponent go "and now I activate this ability and everything in this sector is dead" and you just have to go "lol, ok." Hopefully that helps your decision.

I'm confused, did you want this to go longer or shorter? If longer, there's only so much in the expansion to teach without wasting time. If shorter, you can always skip the intro sketch and end credits. Then it's just 7 minutes.
@@RTFM I guess I should have taken the time for a clearer response. Sorry. I think it could have gone longer with your classic playthrough examples and comedy that everyone has grown to love.
