god i've been perusing bowie's radio interviews recently and i love them - so much more conversational and slightly random and fascinating and somehow human, and charmingly mundane, than most of the more popular video interviews...
I do love a good old British piss-take. Love David’s humour so much, it’s great to hear an interview with someone who shared it. There were so many interviews where it just went over the interviewers head. One of the funniest I saw was in his Tin Machine days when the guys were messing around and the interviewer tried to get them back on track by asking, in all seriousness, “have you got any concrete plans?” And David replied “we’re gonna lay some crazy paving man” and laughed. Unfortunately nobody laughed with him, it just went right over their heads.
0:48 Bowie - 'Fortunately I was doing cocaine so I could stay up most of the night and complete these things'.....Bowie's wit was the best in the business and combined with his phenomenal intellect and imagination - well...need any more be said.
I wonder if Bowie ever asked Marc about Mark E Smith? Seeing as he praised The Fall in The Buddha of Suburbia album blurb and Marc’s old Fall connection.
This was just before his heart issues then? I was gutted when he had to pull out of TITP but I'd been lucky enough see him at the Move Festival in Manchester a year or so before this interview (the two Mark's were actually the compere's for the show - is the Manchester Evening News still 10p on a Friday?) and once more in Glasgow on the Reality tour.
His heart attack was at the Hurricane Festival June 25 2004. This interview doesn't specify the month, but I think it was before this because it took months for him to recover, and he looks good here.

And if there’s one thing you don’t want, it’s concrete crazy pacing going over your head.

He was so sharp and funny.
