    a number between 0 and -0? maybe. That is the only number that I could see affecting our entire system of mathematics.

      Here are a list of possible values for SCP-033:
      1: An integer between the values of 0 and -0
      2: An integer between the values of 0 and 0
      3: An integer between the values of any given real number and itself
      4: A value that is divisible by 0

      I think this number is -infinity which is as infinitely as small as zero yet as infinitely large as..infinity so it would be the 2nd neutral number therefore it being “missing”

      It logically shouldn't destabilize anything it comes into contact with though. It's just a number that we as humans didn't use, which means we just missed a tool rather than a factor of space or time, meaning it technically shouldn't really do anything. It's like if we realised we had an extra digit or limb, then suddenly turned to dust from merely realising it without it actually doing anything to us - complete nonsense. If we wanted an experiment to do with it, I suppose we could teach a child to know the number and see what happens if they use it in standard measurements - 'This box I constructed has all dimensions being exactly 5cm larger than _.' If we constructed things whose dimensions incorporate that number, it may help contain it.

      Now that's why we have a fractol a shape with infinite a perimeter not sure if it is called a fractol idk I forgot the name.

    What people dont get is that the issue is that this number exist between 0-10 without it changing the base, its still 10 with a extra number in it, so if you change the base it would still have a extra number in that base
    Like if you put base 11, it has 12
    Base 12, it has 13 and so on
    If you compare it to counting your fingers, its like if you saw one extra finger in your hand but when counting it you still counted 10 fingers, and then you have to cut your hand off because it cant sustain the extra one there
    Same goes for this number, in the SCP's universe this number was proven to exist but it doesnt belong in said universe, because trying to insert it in any system make it to collapse and thats why any object holding a representation of it starts falling apart

      so this sounds like the missing number is literally just another 0, but with more value

      Indeed
      And for the other commenter, yeah but it is not supposed to be
      This is a supernatural concept trying to insert itself as a number into a system where it is not meant to exist, it's why it is anomalous

    Logically speaking this is impossible. Or the Prof. Just made an awful comparison. If six came right after four then this is what counting would be like:hold up your index finger. This quantity is "one". Hold up your index and middle finger. This quantity is "two". Hold up your index, middle, and ring finger. This quantity is "three". Hold up your index, middle, ring, and little fingers. This quantity is "four". Hold up all your fingers on one hand. This quantity is "six". See? It's just a name change. Unless this number is reached by dividing by zero it's impo

      +Ryan Gourley The 4 to 6 example was a layman way of explaining it. Though solid in argument, most mathematical algorithms are pretty standard to a base human of intelligence. But, if you took that same base level of human intelligence to say a 1st grader and then told them that 5 does not come after 4 but indeed 4.1 comes after four, or say 4 and 1/100th's. That 1st grader would not be able to know, with the current knowledge and understanding, what you are talking about. Even though we may base something today mathematically on something using existing algorithms and find an answer. What if the algorithms are wrong? This is the essence of 033, that an an algorithm, mathematically capable, was found to prove our current forms were incorrect, resulting in a missing number.

    • @MRSCP
      @MRSCP  8 років тому +2

      +Ryan Gourley stupid comment cutoff, "was found to prove that our current algorithms are wrong and using this new algorithm proves that we did indeed miss a number."

      1/4 of me wants to accuse you of pulling that explanation out of your arse, 1/4 of me wants to say "Oh." because I didn't understand what you just said, 1/4 of me is standing by my explanation, 1/5 of me thinks it understands your explanation perfectly and finds it to be flawed, and 7/5 of me believes this discovery would lead to the revelation that the basics of human perception are inherently flawed, and therefore it doesn't matter if we missed a number because mathematics, along with all other schools of thought, would have just been completely disproven to be consistently viable with the logic reality would operate on.

    • @AngelusAnsell
      @AngelusAnsell 7 років тому +3

      Ryan Gourley the whole "four then six" thing was just an example. the number itself is "of intermediate value". still, the idea that one of our numbers is out of place is a simple yet genuinely terrifying idea. shit should be Keter Class for what it could do if it got out.

    Isn’t this just a proof by contradiction? I know in mathematical proofs, you can show something is false by first assuming it is true and then showing that it creates a contradiction. Perhaps the math itself is what is causing the Anamoulous features of the object and not the proof. Perhaps somethig about the math has to do with decay functions?

    A number that causes literal destabilisation to anything it touches. Yeah, that doesn't make sense. A number is a tool, not an integral part of reality.
    Edit: 3 years later, and I think I'll keep this comment here. I understand how the destabilisation occurs now, though I was admittedly slow to get it (revisited this one after a couple months).

      the universe is inherently mathematical, and this formula proves an impossible aspect into that mathematical reality; that's why it destabilizes things, especially computers

    Hearing the Effect I would say the Number is a number that is beyond our understanding, forgive me for bringing religon in but.... There are bodies Telesales (Assumingly what we are) bodies Terrestrial (one step up) and bodies Celestial(What We could think of God... or some technology/consept way beyond us) anyways maybe said number doesn't hold up because our world isn't made for said number? But changing it to Water? maybe it is the Formula that makes... Water?

    This doesn't make sense..... if it is a number it is a number that isn't 0-9 which means we have a 11th number I don't think drawing it then taking a poloride photo of it, then taking a digital copy of the photo of said number would cause things to go crazy, can they make the said number into a Art form or make a physical rendition of it? that isn't in Math Speach? like a Sculpture of it :D Maybe numbers 0-9 are 3 dimensional the number after starts on the 4th dimention... which would reason out why it causes erosion.... however if said number really exists, and for say it was shared over the internet bye bye net T.T however since that hasn't even come close to happening and more than one person may come up with it. I think maybe it is like sound, maybe the number can't be expressed by painting it on or etching it, maybe it can only be expressed by projecting or crafting.

    It's the fact that SCPs can be submitted by such uneducated authors that makes it difficult to take the remaining SCPs seriously.
    EDIT: Okay, so a quick jaunt over to Numberphile and I learned that the overwhelming majority of numbers are the ones that are inherently uncomputable. Their exact values cannot be expressed with a finite number of computable numbers, nor can they be written out as an infinite yet predictable pattern (i.e., pi^2/6 = 1+1/4+1/9+1/16+1/25+...). When you fill the number line with dots for each algebraic number, you'll still have gaps where you can fit transcendental numbers. Once you've filled in all the transcendental numbers, you'll still have gaps. The uncomputable numbers fill these gaps. Because the brain is a computer, these numbers are literally beyond comprehension without resorting to lazy philosophizing like Rayo's number does.
    I therefore retract my original comment, and apologize to the author of this SCP. Please accept an imaginary dollar in reparations.
