I can tell you were struggling to mess up Smitha! 😁 I know once you have it down to a science like you do, it's hard to go back to or to start messing up
The amount of times I've ruined my foundation base by eyeshadow fallout...but then, you just don't get the right eye look when you do foundation after if you're not an expert....which I'm not! It's a difficult one 😂

Always put some loose powder under your eyes. With a fluffy brush, dust it off after eye makeup is done. No fallouts will be there.

I prefer to apply foundation first but that's only because I'm in such a rigid routine with it that it feels like starting at the beginning - the base - is right. However, I have had some fallout fails before so now, if I'm not really going anywhere, just at home or work, I do foundation first as my look is simpler and usually neutral but if I'm going somewhere special (which isn't that often), I do my eyes first 🙂

Thank you for this! I'm usually trying to go for a dramatic look when I do wear makeup, and the prevailing knowledge is "foundation first." But colors don't stick as well, and the term "fallout" is new to me, and so apt. XD Messing up your foundation whilst doing some crazy eye makeup is never fun, so I'm glad the reverse order is being talked about and legit.

If I know if I'm going to make a colorful eye look, I will start before my base makeup. I never put the shadows on my lower lash line until I have applied foundation, concealer, etc. Once that's done, then eyeshadows can be buffed out on the lower lash line. Works for me! 😄
Good reasons for both. Honestly i sometimes forget and just go ahead and start doing my base first. Oops! Love your eyeshadow skills.
For me, it's:
Full glam looks - eyeshadow first
Natural look, minimal eyeshadow looks- foundation first

I use to apply foundation first, then I saw Nikol Johnson do her eye makeup first and clean it up with an Almay pad to get a sharp line. I found it much easier to put eye makeup on first.

I generally apply foundation and contour first. Lately though I’ve been considering switching it up since I’ve noticed another of my favorite UA-cam makeup artists always does her eyes first.
If I’m waiting for sunscreen to dry down I do eyes whilst waiting if not usually foundation and all of base x❤

I barely use eyeshadow and when I do i've been lucky enough to never have fallout...

I've been applying my eye makeup before my foundation since I was 13 yrs old. I am soon to be 68 yrs young. I can't believe that this is just now becoming a popular subject. Never could understand why most of the influencers always put their foundation on first 🙄

I was taught foundation first so I’ve always just stuck with that. Also I don’t use concealer or primer so my foundation is my base for my eyes too. I feel like eyes first is a more recent way of applying makeup. Would that be correct? I am 49yrs old and it’s only been in the last 5yrs or so I’ve seen it done.

I hate doing eye makup before the rest of my makeup. I feel like it looks awful on my face until it all comes together at the end. I can’t tell if it looks good or not. I just look kind of YIKES and it stresses me out! It’s just not as much fun for me! I’d rather clean up fallout. (But to be fair, I don’t do lots of super complicated eye looks)
If I apply eye liner or kajal above my foundation. It gets smudged.
One question - How to avoid eye liner and kajal smuding due to sweat even after makeup.

I've been applying foundation first for years. That's what I'm comfortable with. But, it seems like all the beauty gurus here on UA-cam do their eyes first then they do foundation. So, to each his own I guess. One makeup artist said it's just makeup and that there are no rules, which I agree. Do what's best for you. Do what makes you look and feel great.
