Hi all, I am trying out a new approach where I break down each practice clip, focusing on how players demonstrate heads-up plays while showcasing their skills. My intent is to analyze and highlight their decision-making and technique (to the best of my ability). While I plan to continue posting Sharks practice that are open to public, I will refrain from sharing clips that involve specific strategic elements, such as power play setups and build-ups, to maintain confidentiality and respect team tactics. And yes, AI helped me generate this comment.
Great details! From you and Calebrini! One thing I would suggest when you go back and forth from pausing/playing the video.. either drop the volume or get rid of the audio all together if it's not relevant. Pretty excited to see how the sharks play this year. It's been awhile since I've felt that.
I didn't give him enough credit in college, kid is truly elite & his skating is far more dynamic than I realized. He's got excellent mechanics & edgework.
Thank you for your feedback on the new approach! I'm glad I did this. I will try to continue this, as its really worthwhile to analyze and try to understand each player's thought process during fast-paced plays.
He had a great setup play. If you rewatch it you can see from his side he could draw the goalie to the near post, and then pass to the other forward for a back door pass behind the defender.
@@math3342 It shouldn't...macklin's got tunnel vision there. Drew the defender, and goalie is frozen. A little pass to 10 and that's a wide open net for an easy goal
@@mattf2146 for sure, I was actually going to add if he was right handed, it would be great for a one T. . . but he's left, thats why it wasn't a good shot for him there.
kostin needed to keep skating to create space for a pass or make the defender pick Macklin or Kostin to defend. Kostin didn't skate and the def was spaced to def both macklin and kostin. Mack thought he catch the goalie sliding to the left and shot it right.
@1:26, he should pull up just enough to get a lane to pass to 10 (Think it's Kostin?) and then go to the net. Technically not a 'bad play' to shoot, cuz it's never a bad play to get a good shot on goal, but there was a better play available. Someone with more hockey IQ in 10's position might have pushed a little lower to create more of an angle and open up more net, though.
Not saying he’s gonna be as good, but his skating style , edge work, lateral movement and puck handling does resemble McDavid a bit. You can see those moments in this video
From a defense perspective... should that defender have pivoted from backward to forward skating for forecheck purposes at that moment though.. I think I wouldn't do it unless I am completely outskated which doesn't seem to be the case (I watched it a few times and it seems to me he could have kept celebrini on his front right side at stick distance without pivoting)
Positions like that are awkward for a defender. There is a point where you kinda have to chase or cut bait or else you'll just turn into a pylon backing into your goalie. It's risky because your options are to either commit and risk the breakaway/open shot or continue guarding but remain too passive and back up into your goalie/create a screen. It is an issue for even AAA defensemen. My best advice is to put him as close to the outside as possible and commit when you have to, taking the inside angle which leaves them only with the outside at best. Then it's on your goalie to block a bad-angled shot or poke check if they circle around to the middle. Been playing D for 30 years and I struggle with it too as well
As a defender, you should be able to accelerate as fast or faster than someone going forward. A defender should not have to turn to defend hence why he gets burnt. Now d men are trained to be defensive forwards so ya see it more and more especially with them pinching
2nd clip analysis is incomplete. This was mostly just a really poorly executed forecheck by the White team players. All 3 white forecheckers were bunched on entry covering each others shadows. #57 white forechecker peeled off (to cover the pass to Celebrini's partner D) still skating forward and not pivoted to backwards skating (allowing him to transition toward Celebrini in the middle, or towards Celebrini's D partner), which creates the space that Celebrini skates into in the middle of the ice. The third forechecker is completely lost on this play and is swivling around trying to find ANY Teal player to cover. Had the third forechecker not vacate the center of the ice (and skate back as Right D), there would have been minimal skating room down the center of the ice. While this worked in this sequence, turning / cutting toward the center of the ice right in front of your own goalie is a recipe for turnovers in the Regular season.

This is a really great analysis. My first time seeing one of your vids. I'm subscribing :)

I love this, I will show these to my son!
@@joehurley6521 Thanks! I appreciate it! I am currently working on my next one.

Breakdowns like this are invaluable for learning. Commit to it as a format and I bet your channel will grow in leaps and bounds.

@@YAMAHOCKEY ya this is fire
Player on left at end of clip was pissed he didnt recieve the puck lol.
The reaction of Number 10 bothers me...
Kostin?

Saw that too. Definitely shoulda sent a pass to him as opposed to a fairly weak shot that is easily saved

That's why he was the #1 draft pick. I like your format and analysis too.
cool to see a breakdown from a talented player like celebrini
Love this channel
Holy shit, top class.😮
This is great insight!
The only part wrong was that goalie was not frozen at end. Goalie stayed square to celebrini shoulders and made save with ease due to it
I keep imaging the Blackhawks winning the lottery again and Celebrini and Bedard on the PP together.
1:27 #10 really thinking he's getting a dish there lol
well he was clear
@@vl100000 not for a good shot though. Clear of a defender for sure, I hear you.
@@korbendallas7181 He's got a decent shot stick side on a one-timer. I'd like to see that opportunity moreso than the low chance 5 hole attempt

Holy is this guy good👌🏻
Great highlights and evaluation! He has some great skills (from a hawks fan)
But I think some people overate him a bit tho
Last play he should have passed to his wide open left winger. Very talented young man though
LW one T would have wired it wide because of handedness. Would have been good if the LW was a right shot.

Just noticed that I didn't need "to" during 1:48 - 1:52 . Will do a better word check next time.

should have passed that last one.
Where tf is the puck and are your feet in position to take advantage of it? To yourself or your teammate.

Sharks are coming for the nhl!
Sharks fans desert this
He looks great
How ever the play of him exiting the d zone is not a smart play and in a real game probably would of been a turn over
Misses the net and then shoots right into the bread basket of the goalie. Needs to work on his shot or get in closer.
