No I'd say Moral Orel is darker than BoJack Horseman. At least the bad things that happen are happening to a 50 year old man. In Moral Orel, the bad things are happening to an innocent little boy who just wants to follow the good book.
Basically the first two seasons are seen from Orel's perspective when he's still got the wool of religion pulled over his eyes, and season 3 is after the illusion is shattered. That's why characters like Clay slowly become worse people as the show progresses
When I was a little kid I didn’t like this show because I felt like most of the characters were bad people. As I got older I and saw more of the world( and religion in general), I felt that this show was actually very clever.

They actually confirmed in an interview that they didn’t even realize that until someone pointed it out or they just thought it was a corny joke so they changed it
What's great about this show is that it isn't even a critique of religion. It's a critique of communal religious exploitation. Almost all people that go to church have never read a full chapter from the bible, and just follow what their local corrupt church communities say. It's specifically making fun of how impossible it is for children to understand the warped ridiculous lessons that the adults don't even fully understand.
There are SO MANY elements I could relate to this show, especially that Christmas episode because I grew up with parents in a bitter marriage. TBH I kind of became an atheist because of this show. God Damn it bro, this show never stops being good but after the first season it starts to get less satire and more just a realistic depiction of the holes inside of Protestant/Christian beliefs. I imagine that if anyone’s religious parents/grandparents caught them watching this at any age, they’d be furious no matter what. I’ve never seen a show tackle a theme this controversial.
I love the first season. It's like an old 50's sitcom, its formulaic, has cheesy music, got a happy go lucky kid, and there's a message. And the animation is like David and Goliath, simple.
I feel the continuity not mattering in the beginning really shows orals innocence fading and maturity growing. The world around him begins to make more sense, and becomes more gray and all happiness from everything fades away, and he slowly loses his childhood
“You still have two minutes left, and I have faith in you.” Really was a powerful ending to season 1, because it’s kind of obvious nothing happened. I think most of us with religious trauma have had these moments in our lives, and seeing that brang tears to my eyes.
I would argue the first season had to be like that to establish the false veneer the town is putting on in spite of all the fucked up things that are revealed in season 2. If we didn't see Orel trying his best to please God and his uncaring parents, his loss of respect for them after season 2 wouldn't have carried the same weight.
If you want a good theological experiment, I definitely suggest this show because it will pull the rug from under you and showcases how children view adults as heroes to be worshipped and obeyed and then hits you with the first sucker punch that maybe your dad isn't perfect, your mom isn't entirely happy, the town basically hates you and maybe God forgot about you at some point. As a Christian who has grown up in the religion since a child, my take on this show is how it exaggerated most peoples feelings on religion, some go just to go, the children who grow up in it blindly follow whatever adults say, it’s only when children start to mature is when they start getting their own thoughts and opinions on the religion, I still believe in my religion full heartedly, but I can see how some other branches of Christianity supply religious trauma, it’s awful to see the worst part of some religions exaggerated until you see how some people in the church really are

As a Christian who has grown up in the religion since a child, my take on this show is how it exaggerated most peoples feelings on religion, some go just to go, the children who grow up in it blindly follow whatever adults say, it’s only when children start to mature is when they start getting their own thoughts and opinions on the religion, I still believe in my religion full heartedly, but I can see how some other branches of Christianity supply religious trauma, it’s awful to see the worst part of some religions exaggerated until you see how some people in the church really are
Ive always hated clay but boberta is just evil
These vids are great. Subbed
Glad you enjoyed the videos!
Wey nooo (? Vi esto cuando lo daban en I-Sat y si me chocó el capi de navidad :'(( sé sintió...raro
El final con Orel mirando el cielo, tan inocente...
Clay is Jerry Smith of Rick & Morty
I remember moral oral as a kid
Good times
Am i the Only one who thinks that Grandpa Character sounds like the MaleDrunk Voice from Skyrim?
the shows order is a mess on the wiki, i thought the order was different.
well, at the very least, neither of the kids are his, I am gonna guess the blonde guy
11:44 holy shit I called that
What are some more adult cartoons like moral orel and bojack horseman?
Show just mirrors the blind fullness of following religion and it’s practices instead of being honest about your current situation and dealing with it accordingly instead of thinking god will do it for you
For once in a show it sophistically says where moral Orel Is which state that it’s in which city it’s it
I'm dying at this comment
I think coach stopframe is my favourite character.
next to stephanie that is
Saw your post on FJ and came to check you out. Definitely a good commentary episode. My only issue is I find the music to be little too loud to understand you. I’d suggest dropping it by around 20% but other than that I’m enjoying! Looking forward to seeing more!
Alright ill definitely take that into consideration and lower the volume thank you for the constructive criticism!
I recommend you check out part 2 though because the issue may have already been fixed!
Unpopular Opinion 2020: Moral Orel is a better show than BoJack Horseman.
That is probably true. Crazy to think about
That’s not unpopular, I always said this was Bojack before Bojack and at least the final season was the best one in moral Orel instead of Bojacks rushed ending we just got.
By the way to the person making a video I’m glad you covered this, it deserves more love and I can’t wait to see more out of you.
@@joro8693 Hey thanks I really appreciate that! I like to respond to all the comments I can. Just so you know I am covering all of the seasons part 2 of the retrospective is already out but part 3 should be out by tomorrow,
Stuffy sweet already looking forward to it, as for recommendations Bojack is a great watch, the first four seasons will always be perfect to me but it disappoints in the end. It really filled the void moral Orel left, maybe frankenhole since it’s made by the same guy.
@@joro8693 I haven't really had a chance to watch frankenhole but I need to check it out. And I definitely plan on covering Bojack in the future so I hope to see you around!
Binge watching MO is NOT a good idea.
This is the reason why I like animals
Dude's name isn't that hard to pronounce. Say it with me now:
Dee-no Stam-a-top-o-lus
great video. i thought it was spazkid narrating at first, your voice is so similar lol
Clay is my favourite character
funny enough, while other kids grew up watching sesame street and spongebob, i did too. But I also was smart enough to change the channel and smart enough to know that adult swim came on late at night. I grew up with king of the hill, family guy, aqua teen hunger force, and other adult shows. South Park too if it was on comedy central. I distinctly remember seeing the episode of Moral Orel where that one kid went to the special ed class.
I was a crafty son of a bitch at age 2 lol
It's pronounced DEEN-oh. Not dine-oh. Who the hell is named Dino like a dinosaur?
It looks like I'm the biggest fool on this day lol. I'll have that fixed for part 4 then.
@@StuffyGuy Damn, respect. My comment could have come off kinda harsh but you just straight up owned it. Glad I subbed to you, dude.
I'll also mention the last name goes like: Stam-uh-TOP-uh-liss. Awesome videos, my guy, looking forward to more.
@@matturner6890 Thanks dude I appreciate you sticking around and thanks for helping with the pronunciations.
Orel mom was even worse
What music is this your playing through the show
I love this show so much
Good video! I think you should change up your background music, however. It’s a bit distracting
Really? was it too loud or any other issues the only complaint ive heard about it was it was too loud this video which is fixed going forward.
@@StuffyGuy it is not too loud just perhaps unnecessary your commentary is more than sufficient and maybe we just like to hear your voice
@@caxm666 well i appreciate the compliment i just feel weird not having any music when its just me talking. I should have a vote on it or something!
although i should add i was only slightly distracted by the background music a few times so maybe being distracted at any point means something .......but it certainty wasn"t BAD.it"s a GOOD video. i predict growth and success for your channel and i couldn't find the apostrophe
@@caxm666 If its not too much could you point out one of the places where it distracted you so i avoid the mistake in the future. And thanks for the kind prediction it means a lot to me i hope to see you around!
This show is an actually good Christian show, I'm actually Christian and I saw this show. At least it has good messages (in Season 1). I feel if this show didn't have inaproppiate references it could've been popular in Churches. Saberspark may like this show! Non-Christian people hate this show. I like this show!
non-Christian people do not hate this show. I'm an atheist, this is my favorite show.
This show doesn't show people doing christianity wrong, it shows what is wrong with christianity. You shouldn't be watching it patting yourself on the back thinking, "I'm not as bad as those ppl I'm doing this whole christian thing right."
@@KD-ou2np "This show doesn't show people doing christianity wrong"
Yes, it does.
"it shows what is wrong with christianity"
It has 0 commentary on the philosophy or theology of Christianity. It is a show that delves into the people who lose sight of their religion, religious hypocirtes, incorrect applications of the religion, and ignorance. It comments on a certain group within Christianity. It is a show that centers around people at their worst through a religious lens.
"You shouldn't be watching it patting yourself on the back thinking, "I'm not as bad as those ppl I'm doing this whole christian thing right.""
You are correct here.
@@monarchblue4280 lol okay, its not like I grew up in a highly conservative christian environment or anything. LOL not like I might know exactly what I'm fucking talking about or anything
