PLEASE READ: Sadly I'm being asked by quite a lot of people whether the horses at this yard have bits in and saddles on at all times while they're in their stables. The answer is: no, of course they don't!! 😊 The horses are tacked up before each lesson by the lovely grooms who work/volunteer at the yard in order to save time and ensure each horse is tacked up to a high standard (this is a busy riding school & livery yard and these are the rules, full stop). This is why when I approach the horses in my videos, they're already tacked up and I just do some final adjustments. They’re not left in their stables with or without tack on 24/7 and are only in the yard and out of the fields for as long as they are needed for a lesson or hack. I'm honestly both shocked and incredibly disappointed that so many people think the horses are treated this way. I would also like to make very clear that we only ever ride on designated bridleways (a lot of the ones around us go diagonally across or straight through the middle of the fields), stubble fields, or fields that have not yet been planted (as per each farmers crop rotation). The field we cantered across in this video has not been harrowed or planted this year, which means we are not damaging the farmers crop or field - we would never, ever go on the crop unless by accident or for safety reasons, for example if a horse spooks or we meet a tractor and there is no room to pass safely. The yard and the local farmers have had a very good relationship for over 25 years; because of this they allow us to ride on their fields if they are unplanted or have been harvested. It is their livelihood, and we respect that greatly. 👍
We did the same at the yeard I used to work at, have the horse all tacked up and ready for lessons or hacks or if they are to go for a show they get tacked up and a rug put on them to go in the lorry or just the saddle and a rug, am shocked my self to head people asking you if the horse are forever tacked up I laughed at first. then it got me thinking of how they could even think like that. The yard I was at had a farmers field next to us on a hill and we get to rid in it, I never did never got the change to do so =( I miss riding maybe in 2019 I'll get back into it, after getting help.
I don't think the people who are asked you that question has an idea on how horses are looked after and cared for let alone in a livery or riding stables. So I wouldn't be too surprised when questions like that are asked, it does show peoples real lack of knowledge and understanding :)
+wolfaholic 7017 I'm not sure if your comment is aimed at me or not, but in case it is and you just didn't manage to read the post you've commented on: this is a riding school, none of these are my own horses, it is the rules of the yard that the grooms tack up - I literally cannot tack up here and I'm fine with that. I know how to tack up, as I learnt before I came to this yard. Some riding schools work this way, some don't, it's really, honestly, perfectly normal. :-)

Yes it's helps but they can't rely on your voice I have had it be so windy that I couldn't hear myself think so there was no way my horse could hear me. I'm all for using my voice but sometimes it's not the best choice
I used to ride an ex racehorse, she loved to bolt away with people, I did tons of flat work with her so we had a bond, we went on a trail ride and she ran with all her powder over a field, I tried stopping her but gave up and just let her run, we ended up so far from home and she was so tired, took us almost 2 hours in walk to get back, she never did it again lmfao
I love this video - well, all your videos! - as I have severe anxiety I try to control with medication. Little things set it off, but especially when I’m riding, if something goes “wrong” or is out of my control I completely freeze up and lose my confidence. My heat skipped a beat when he bolted, and when he galloped and didn’t seem like he would stop as I very recently had a similar thing happen to me - except I broke my ankle! So I’ve been trying to build my confidence. Seeing how you handle things so positively and confidently, and “keep your cool” as it was, really inspires and ensures me that even if I do lose control, I can always regain it and even have fun with it, and that it is not the end of the world 😁
When i was 10 i went on a hack on a horse i didnt know so Well. I know it was a stupid idea, but it was My 2 time riding(and not just walking for 2 minutes) and i had no idea about What could happen. Suddently She took off and Galloped. It went fine, untill She bucked. I fell off, but My foot was stuck in The stirrup. I got dragged for What felt like Ages, and suddently evrything turned Black. She had accidently hit me in The head with her hoof while running.
I had to be in The hospital for 12 hours and i went home with a broken ancle and a scar between My eyes from where her hoof hit. The accident was on December 16th 2017. I still loved horses and wanted to ride, so we started looking for a barn. Spring 2018 i started riding and i Think ive come really far. I ride one of The challenging school horses at My barn, and i Can almost canter myself now.
I know what you mean. I had two really bad falls last year (turned out my horse had damaged her back and so would suddenly go complete rodeo bronco during rides) and she then had to have six months off which let getting back on her turn into this impossible feat in my head. These videos have been so good for getting my confidence back up.
Holly I have this problem too. Especially when I ride certain horses that are really hard to calm down and are super forward. I just end up being way too harsh on the horses mouth and my trainer whenever she puts me on these horses I have to stay in a curtain “color zone” and I’m not allowed to move my hands up any further. I’ve always had really bad confidence when cantering since the first time I did so I had a really bad fall. I’ve only recently been more confident when riding certain horses. Ever sense a horse just took off with me and wouldn’t stop I’ve been nervous especially since I was a pretty new rider and this was one of the first times I was on that horse. So now I sadly have a really bad taste in my mouth about this horse. It really helps me to watch people handle this so well and knowing others have the same issue as myself. ❤️❤️
Robin (riding Roger in this video) wants me to tell you all that she was wearing a t-shirt, jumper, gilet, thick waterproof coat and hi-vis on this hack, and that she’s not just been eating too many pies recently 😂 x

great so confident. too many people get stressy when a horse spooks or takes off yelling at them or belting them with a whip. horses cant talk to tell you "don't you hit me! your coming the fuck off! so they tell you the only way they know how by bucking or rearing. totally fantastic
Early for once. The communication between you and horse is truly satisfying to watch. Many riders apologise for talking to their horses when why not? You talk to a dog but not a horse? It's really fascinating to watch. Hope you're fine, that seemed like very high speeds. Hope everything is alright and don't let your self esteem drop because of an accident. x
The only time I’ve ever galloped my horse was completely unintentional and she was so bloody fast I almost fell off because she lowered her head while running! 😂👏
I love that Roger and Bumble have the same tail spot. Also my favorite time galloping was on my riding instructors barrel racing horse named Smoothie. We were out on a hack and there was about a mile of open field we could run through. One of the girls I was riding on wanted to race. So we waited for someone to get ahead and when Smoothie and I started we were in a steady canter then she got really into it seeing as she wasn't in the lead and kicked it into high gear. It was amazing though I managed to break a strap on the bridle... Not sure how because I didn't pull. But it was great fun. Nothing beats that feeling. Or hearing the sound of the hooves on the ground.

I started riding on a 13 hands piebald pony about 2 months ago. I am loaning him and he is amazing to ride . Paddy (That's his name) is a beautiful cob and today I did a jumping course with him and it was such good fun! I also hack out a lot since there is a forest and a massive field just to name a few. I am 10 years old and for me paddy is the best horse ever! ☺
Lol I once went for a ride with my Friesian called Ace and he did the same thing exsept he kicked me off and I found him 5 hours later in the females field I tell ya I wasn't happy with him cuz a foal was born later that year 😂😂😂 he's a cheeky one
You handled that bolt/spook really good!!! You shouldn’t be scared even if h are try and stay calm because if u get scared of a bolt it will make them more scared which will make them more scared so they’ll go faster and u handled that really well. Edit: I’m pretty sure cause that happened one time too me
I love it that u don't go on busy roads, I have seen a video of these girls with their horses on a two way road and complaining about speeders, but it's not actually safe for horses to be on a two way road, ur so cool definitely subscribing!
Qotd: yeh I’ve galloped , there’s three specific places where I gallop , across the field by my house , a certain part of a trail that I hack along and finally ( my favourite ) on the top of a hill , it has a hugeeee flattened area on the top . I can honestly say galloping is one of the best feelings in the world , you feel so free
I think I got to a pace somewhat described as a fast canter/slow gallop when I rode on a riding holiday and they gave me a horse who knew all the galloping spots and was really keen to set off. I once also was riding a pony who overtook the instructor's pony so she was going pretty fast, and she had to yell stop to me lol.
You certainly more confident then me. If I was you I would have been like ‘I’m sorry but I want to stop, I don’t feel safe’ after Callie bolting. QOTD: i galloped on an actual point to point race course on a friends Thoroughbred. It was wonderful!’

Don't let it bring you down if you fall. You will fall, have refusals, have to sit bucks, sit spook, but don't get down about it. Get back on and try again !!
I have had a lot of bad experiences with my horse and it has caused me to be absolutely terrified. I can’t even have lessons because I think the riding school horses are going to do something even though they never will. It get hard when you have something that you love more then anything but when u get on the saddle or even think about it I get really really scared. If you read all that does anyone have any tips because it would be greatly appreciated ❤️

I was going on my first ever hack, and on the way back, another rider galloped straight up behind us and made my horse bolt, sat my first gallop! Didn’t fall off luckily.
Also I am just wondering do you ride on a long rein whilst hacking, a long rein where you can still feel the bit? I am constantly told to shorten my reins when hacking out, I don’t ride on a short rein as hacking isn’t meant to be serious work and I’n my opinion it should be joyful for the horse as well as the rider. Unless the horse is being like Callie or I have never ridden the horse before then I would have shorter reins but obviously not to short.
I tend to do half and half. Assuming it's a horse I already know, for some of the hack I will have a shorter rein (but never very tight) and ride like I do when I'm schooling, especially if I want a little more control if we are riding somewhere 'spooky' or on a road, but for the rest of the time I will give the horse a longer rein, with just a touch of contact so that they can have a look around, a stretch, and enjoy the hack as a bit of fun too. I'll also ride completely on the buckle end of my reins if the horse isn't spooky or sharp and we're somewhere safe like a well known track or field. x
My horse used to bolt all the time sometimes in a field an a couple of times up the road but was a country lane so not much traffic I miss riding now but I’m to old to nearly 40 an your horse is so beautiful 😊😊😊
Hi. Great video. So it was amazing to see you gallop and I would love to gallop too. But u see in my riding school when we go out on hacks it’d always on roads so obviously we can’t gallop, and the same with the arena, so I’m kinda wondering if I’ll ever get the change to gallop :(

I love it that u don't go on busy roads, I have seen a video of these girls with their horses on a two way road and complaining about speeders, but it's not actually safe for horses to be on a two way road, ur so cool definitely subscribing!

Qotd: yeh I’ve galloped , there’s three specific places where I gallop , across the field by my house , a certain part of a trail that I hack along and finally ( my favourite ) on the top of a hill , it has a hugeeee flattened area on the top . I can honestly say galloping is one of the best feelings in the world , you feel so free

I think I got to a pace somewhat described as a fast canter/slow gallop when I rode on a riding holiday and they gave me a horse who knew all the galloping spots and was really keen to set off. I once also was riding a pony who overtook the instructor's pony so she was going pretty fast, and she had to yell stop to me lol.

Qotd: yes, both purposly and bolting :p this autumn we went to a huge field(we can't use that field pretty often since it's not our stables and there usually grows stuff xD) and me, my friend and my riding teacher decided to have a race xD I was riding my favourite horse and it was awesome, others in that lesson could'nt keep up with our horses XD also sorry if there's some mistakes, i'm from Finland and I'm not the best at english xd

Don't let it bring you down if you fall. You will fall, have refusals, have to sit bucks, sit spook, but don't get down about it. Get back on and try again !!

I have had a lot of bad experiences with my horse and it has caused me to be absolutely terrified. I can’t even have lessons because I think the riding school horses are going to do something even though they never will. It get hard when you have something that you love more then anything but when u get on the saddle or even think about it I get really really scared. If you read all that does anyone have any tips because it would be greatly appreciated ❤️

I was going on my first ever hack, and on the way back, another rider galloped straight up behind us and made my horse bolt, sat my first gallop! Didn’t fall off luckily.
Also I am just wondering do you ride on a long rein whilst hacking, a long rein where you can still feel the bit? I am constantly told to shorten my reins when hacking out, I don’t ride on a short rein as hacking isn’t meant to be serious work and I’n my opinion it should be joyful for the horse as well as the rider. Unless the horse is being like Callie or I have never ridden the horse before then I would have shorter reins but obviously not to short.
I tend to do half and half. Assuming it's a horse I already know, for some of the hack I will have a shorter rein (but never very tight) and ride like I do when I'm schooling, especially if I want a little more control if we are riding somewhere 'spooky' or on a road, but for the rest of the time I will give the horse a longer rein, with just a touch of contact so that they can have a look around, a stretch, and enjoy the hack as a bit of fun too. I'll also ride completely on the buckle end of my reins if the horse isn't spooky or sharp and we're somewhere safe like a well known track or field. x
My horse used to bolt all the time sometimes in a field an a couple of times up the road but was a country lane so not much traffic I miss riding now but I’m to old to nearly 40 an your horse is so beautiful 😊😊😊
Hi. Great video. So it was amazing to see you gallop and I would love to gallop too. But u see in my riding school when we go out on hacks it’d always on roads so obviously we can’t gallop, and the same with the arena, so I’m kinda wondering if I’ll ever get the change to gallop :(
