I still respect his opinion though. What you mean is that because you agree with his points, and like the professional way he does his videos, it seems unbiased to you.
No reviews are really "honest" all reviewers own all the products, they change their opinions and switch between products regularly. Theyre completely different from us, we who buy a product and want to use it for five years.
Theres always going to be a bias especially on youtube. If you get a free tablet from XP pen to review thats already biased. I think this is one of the less biased channels though. Another thing that gets left out of reviews is how is the product after half a year of use, one year, etc. Its all fine and good if it works good in a 15 minute review. Channels that get free tablets especially from wacom are definitely not going to jeopardize their relationship. Even though they are being taken advantage of since they don't even pay the person for the time and in return they get thousands of eyes on their product without paying anything.

What apps will you be using? Ipad has Procreate, and Illustrator for the Ipad should be released soon. Most design apps are not optimized for Windows tablets. When you're in tablet mode, you can't use keyboard shortcuts (well, you can, but it's not that easy). On the Ipad everything is optimized for touch. I'd get one right now if I could afford it. But for now I'm stuck with a Windows 2 in 1, which is good if you don't want to spend money on both a tablet and a laptop, but if I had the money, I'd get the Ipad.

Great review, Brad. I have exactly both devices ( SB2, iPad Pro gen 2 though) and the Surface is the one I'd take to that hypothetical desert island. Love them both, however
For everyone considering the Surfacebook, keep in mind the hinge can be temperamental. I own the Surfacebook 2, and it has a tendency to accidentally disconnect the base from the screen for half a sec, crashing everything using the GPU. It also doesn’t always wanna come off, even though Microsoft says they’ve mostly fixed that with the 3, people are still having the problem sometimes. Lastly, remember that the hinge is a very complex moving part that will wear down over time. It WILL start having occasional disconnects as the connectors slowly wear down and loosen. I’ve stopped using my Surfacebook almost completely because of these problems (I already had an ipad when i got it, and have now also gotten a MacBook), and while I’m sure Microsoft has improved these issues, moving and disconnecting parts will always be prone to wear and tear over time.
The iPad need to buy BOTH the pen and the keyboard for this tho, so you need to add that to the price of admission, even more when you make the iPad win on design for that exact keyboard.
I’m an illustration student I got an iPad Pro 2020 with an Apple Pencil and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. It doesn’t do everything but that was something I accepted before I got it.
Excellent and unbiased analysis of these two awesome devices. At the end of the day, the iPad is the best tablet, and the Surface Book/Pro etc is the best convertible. For the best all-in-one experience, however, the Surface devices win hands-down.
I really love my Surface Book 2 but I'm not going to do an upgrade with another Surface until Microsoft fixes the pen jitter. I'm still using the previous gen Surface Pen for taking notes which has far less jitter problems but I miss the lower latency and sometimes tilt support from the new pen. Nice video anyway!
The problem with Microsoft and the Surface devices is that Microsoft's vision for the stylus is as a writing utencil, or a utility that you can use together with your Microsoft Office products. Microsoft isn't very interested in the stylus as a drawing utencil. So, they're spending no effort resolving things like jitter. It's also why they went with an inferior technology (N-Trig) even though the earliest Surface devices had Wacom technology. N-Trig is good enough for making notes One Note or whatever, but initially it wasn't even compatible with Photoshop when Microsoft first introduced it with the Surface Pro. It's really unfortunate. The Surface Book looks really, nice Microsoft has no comittment to art/artists with these devices.
so i’m planning to buy the surface book as an engineering student so is it powerful enough to run autocad? buying this for the form factor but want to know how powerful is it? and is investing in the latest model a good idea
KuttyJoe A counterargument is the Surface Studio and Surface Dial. Microsoft is being Microsoft. They never go all the way and always fall up short on something
Because I hand write all of my notes in onenot, primarily for the automatic hand writing detection which let's me check through my handwriten notes for words like a PDF or any other document, the 2-in-1 feature is absolutely invaluable to me. I also specifically went with the highest tier surface book because that Quardo and 32gb will be absolutely invaluable for CAD since im an engineering student who plans to use this laptop for many years and Blender since I'm getting into game design
Brad. Start using Clip studio Paint on the ipad. No layer limits I have hit yet. Around 29000px * 11000px and still going. I was also using ProCreate alot, but now I’m using Clip Studio Paint.
iPad + Macbook. You get everything - the best tablet and drawing experience, coupled with a solid laptop. And on top of that you can use the iPad as a second display when working on the Macbook.
I remember the Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel was set to release this month. I hope Brad can get his hands on that. I *really* want to see it in action and Acer has deprived me of this experience since January.
I know I'm late to this video but, I got an absolute steal today on a SurfaceBook 2. Got it for $50. No issues with it whatsoever. I had been looking to try one out for a while but was unwilling to pull the trigger for even a used one cause of what they were being listed for in my area. I also have a 12.9 inch iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard. It's the 2018 model but it works great for me. The SurfaceBook won't be replacing my iPad Pro anytime soon but for what I paid for it, so far, I'm absolutely loving it.
I'm actually torn between these two, since I do 3D for my Architectural works, and the apps in appstore are so limited for 3D and even Autocad is hard/limited on the ipad. But I really want to draw/edit as well (Procreate and Affinity is a killer) and the accuracy is really important to me. I wish Autodesk could make their softwares better in the future on the ipad.. and maybe Blender would be available... wishful thinking~~
Adobe line smoothing has made leaps and bounds recently, and there are other apps to fix the MPP line issues. It's really a non issue if you are ok with software side smoothing
Maybe LunaDisplay/Astropad could be a solution ? They are planning to lunch it for 2020, Brad did videos on those, basically they allows you to turn an Ipad into a Drawing Display by either copying your screen or turning it into a new one
it all depends on what you will use this device for and how you want to use it. Personally i would choose the Suface Book all day even if that iPad could be a dream device. Affinity on iPad is great, but the Desktop version does so much more. Photoshop on iPad it's gre...nah Photoshop on iPad sucks. Procreate is great but you could use a lot of professional apps on Windows and most of them are free (like Krita). Like you said Autocad on iPad is not even an option , and if you want to do video editing you could use lumafusion but you know that premiere is better (and consider just one thing , if you need to do some complex projects you would need a bigger external monitor . iPad OS does not adapt to 16:9 screens and even if it supports mouse and keyboard is not a seamless and pleasing experience like a real pc).iPad is the perfect device if you already have a PC and a Laptop , you have money to spend and you really need a specific software. Maybe you can buy a decent laptop or a desktop and spend 400 $ for the basic iPad to have the best of both worlds
For 3D check out Shapr3d, which is pretty amazing. It is free for educational use, otherwise it is expensive unfortunatly. maybe an iPad Air for drawing and good regular windows laptop for everything else is an option?
Number One: Procreate (BEST DRAWING APP EVER, just 5usd for life!!) if you can get the 12 inch ipad and apple pencil do!!!! -Number Two: Affinity Photo (basically as good as photoshop but just a once off payment for life of about 50usd) 🙂🙂🙂 -Some people use ‘Clip Studio’ but I haven’t myself yet 🙂🙂🙂 -Marvel have a colouring app for colouring the marvel comic book heros that is a fun app too for practicing color and shading of drawings 🙂🙂🙂 -Also I would recommend: the app Udemy, and purchase the two courses Brad has there for ‘Procreate app,’ and ‘Affinity Photo’ app, Brad has the BEST tutorial videos in those two courses on the Udemy app for learning how to use those two apps 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Wow, finally a video where the reviewer is not hating apple or Microsoft, but really shows the pros and cons, and judging them equally. Really enjoyed!
Planning on it. I decided to get the 15 inch, better specs and a bigger screen and it was only $50 more. The problem is that the 13 shipped last month and I'm not sure when the 15" will get here (possibly Friday?) I'm excited about it and planning a review as soon as I can.
I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Flex and it’s amazing. The pen is almost as good as the apple pen and it runs a full operating system. The pen I use on it is the Staedtler that can be purchased on amazon. Hands down better then the surface book.
I managed to buy a used surface book 2 here in Brazil, it looked brand new because the previous owner barely used it. Those laptops aren't being sold here and if you import it you're almost paying the price of a car for it. An iPad pro looks so good but it is also expensive. I got used to the line jitter, I started using clip studio pro and the line quality there is way better. That's the only negative thing I can say about it so far, I love it.
I was initially hyped for such beastly specs and dedicated 1650?/60? Ti graphics (brad didn't appreciate this part enough) on something so portable which can turn into a tablet so I was like set for learning blender and other stuff and even working on AI on a 'tablet' sounded so motivating for my creativity but my ideal config costs 2600 USD which is WAYY off my budget. An instant deal-breaker.
Reading piano sheet music... Who wins? ... Specifically in tablet mode for 2 pages on-screen, with the white margins cropped out and removed. Which is better in this scenario?
I have a surface pro, the battery is supposedly 4 hours, I get 2-3 tops, and if it’s idle the battery just dies. My ipad gen 1 had 10 hours of battery life, and I could leave that unplugged for days and still have battery life. It doesn’t matter if it’s a tablet or laptop if I have to charge it every hour it’s a slightly more mobile desktop.
As someone who used to draw mostly on my iPad and then recently got herself a Surface book 3, I’m pretty content with my Book. It also gives me the freedom to use my laptop as a part tablet. But one big down side I find is the lack of ease to transfer between the two, the obviously they’re 2 different brands
I agree with your assessment on this review. Both great products but I like to travel for long periods of time and need the functionality of a full on computer. But my Surface 2 also gives me the the functionality of a tablet for drawing.
It wasn't until this video that I considered the Surface Book 3, but that's only because I'm so happy with my old Surface Pro 4 and figured that if I ever got another that it'd be in a line of the Pros. As someone who now has gotten more into creating videos, I can see that with a Book I can do what I already do and more but I suppose that will also depend on which specifications I get. Thank you!
Thanks for this awesome review Brad! I've been searching for a laptop and a tablet so having the Surface Book 3 seems like the best of both worlds. I do content creation so I love the aspects of having the functionality of the laptop with the option to play around with drawing programs. I'm not a professional illustrator, so I'm not sure how big of a deal the shakiness of the pen will be for me but I'm glad you pointed this out. I've got lots to think about!
Hi Brad...great review and pretty clear of why you went the way you did. I own both as well and they both have great features. I also had to choose the Surface book as well because of the file transfer issues and the fact I use pro level apps. Man...Imagine if they would get the pen on the Surface device equal to the Apple pencil. It would be a huge game changer. I have the HP book x2 g4 that has the Wacom tech...but it was 4 grand. It is a top tier machine that is for professionals at a huge premium. However...I am still in love with my iPad pro 12.9 and my Surface. Hopefully they will fix the pen issues. It would change the game!!!!
A12Z is actually the same chip as A12X. A12X physically have 8 GPU core; but somehow Apple decide to lock one core up in A12X when they launch the iPad Pro 2018. They just enabled the extra core in 2020 version...
i swear by my ipad pro just cause the drawing for me is the most important thing. the pen and response feels so good and procreate 5 is just a magnificent drawing app i havent touched photoshopped in months. besides draw the only things i do is read/twitter/watch netflix and youtube. i dont work in 3d nor do i game or edit videos so its pretty much perfect for me and incredibly portable.
Why would you buy another tablet for and 2 in 1 device, do you think that drawing in a Surface Book is so bad that you want to make circles you end up with triangles lol. Surface Book is a great device for drawing I learned in one and I've done really good piece of art with it, I don't think getting a Wacom tablet or an Ipad will transform my work 200%, just like when I sketch with an Ikea Pencil my sketch are as good as with a KuroToga pencil.
I went for the iPad over the surface book, literally only because you have no usb ports on the surface book when you take it off the base... both look great, and definitely comes down to what you want to achieve with these devices. This is a helpful video for those looking to make that purchase soon.
One significant element overlooked… Cameras, and some of the best out there. Part of my holistic creative vision includes my photography. And yes, I don’t mind shooting with the iPad Pro rather than a phone
Surface book 3 is a device I simply LOVE to use. Not the best in any single category, but pretty darn good at many many things all at the same time. In fact there are hardly any touchscreen 2-in-1 and with such detachable form factor with a discreet gpu as it 15". Tried the replacement with Surface laptop Studio but it's more of a drawing laptop than tablet and laptop in 1which is my use case. Not to mention, you won't find any bigger full pc tablet with/without base for keyboard and gpu. For instance, reading and consuming graphic novels is my favourite recreational activity and Surface laptop studio doesn't serve that purpose for me as it cannot be used in portrait mode. I definitely think that they should have worked more on the 'detachable' form factor rather than just 'adaptable' one as in the SLS.
The surface book 3 has the ability for expandable storage as well with a micro SD card and the nifty BASEQi adapter. Works amazing well for seamless intergration.
i dont like apple as a company but their apple pencil low latency has me hooked, it makes for such a better drawing experience. I borrowed an ipad pro and tested the pencil for a week or so, but im broke so im waiting for a used ipad 6 or 7th gen used in my area
I currently own a first gen iPad Pro and I love it a lot. It’s my main source for digital art (using Procreate) but I’ve been looking to the Surface Book 3 for higher processing power and I’m interested in using Blender, and I’m also really eyeballing it for the ability to be used as a tablet so I don’t have to go through all the trouble of picking out a PC and then picking out an entirely separate drawing tablet. Plus, I’m Thank you for this review, it’s very insightful! I think I will look to getting the Surface Book 3!
The thing is, iPad is not a computer, whatever apple may say, to me its a companion device like an apple watch. Although I do agree with ur choice that Surface is better just because it can do more. But to me this comparison is like comparing the iphone to the apple watch, like If I want a cool watch that shows me time and my health, I won’t choose iphone right? But at the same time my apple watch is not replacing my iphone, maybe in the future but not now.
“Over” is a great graphic design/photoshop app for iOS. I’ve pulled off some insane pieces of work on my iPhone alone. So I’m sure it’s even better on the iPad. I think this comes down to finding proper apps that cater to you. Although I do feel like I’m caught between a rock and a hard place considering the filing systems. I’m so torn.
if youre looking to replace your laptop or computer the best option would be the surface book just because it does everything your computer does. if you already have a good computer or laptop then i would go with the ipad. at least thats my thought process. i already have a high end PC, so i dont need something else that does basically the same thing and cost almost as much as my pc. the reason i got the ipad was just for fun, something to have as a hobby.
@@TimewarpGame Compromised drawing experience? The surface book isn't designed for drawing so judging it by its drawing capability isn't fair, that's like judging the ipad by its video editing capability. The fact that the surface book can support wacom pen is good enough and alot of people even manage to create amazing art with it just look it up on youtube
I don't think it is as big a deal as he makes it out to be. I've never noticed it. Had a surface pro for a year. If you're doing super slow strokes you may as well enable smoothing. Doing normal speed strokes it's unnoticeable. The surface pen has more friction and an better tip as well.
Your camera is so good that when I'm watching videos on my phone, while it's on a stand at a distance, it looks like a tiny person is talking to me 😂 I can't get over it!
I understand your perspective but I disagree. Multitasking is a new feat on ipad, knowing Apple they will invest in the interface more than Microsoft. With transition to arm you essentially are moving forward with times and not staying attached to stagnate tech.
Thank you for this review Brad! I'm interested in an all in one machine with windows because I teach digital painting and also blender 3d. So, in that concern, I'm thinking in buying something like the Surface book 3. But, I'm concerned with the heating factor... Can you (or any other user that has it) tell me if it overheats? Thank you!
I just bought the tab s6 lite and I love it. The 11” iPad Pro and Cintiq are my daily drivers, but bought the tab s6 lite to play around with the android eco system, and have a device to draw for fun on. It’s a really good little device.
I disagree with the price category because price definitely had something to do with me going for the iPad Pro. I would have gone for the surface if it either was as cheap as the iPad or a better laptop competing with 2 in 1 laptops.
The day you say the drawing experience is the same or better on a surface pro is the day i jump ship. I am sick of how limiting the ipad operating system is. If Apple would just make their version of the Surface with a full operating system that can also run procreate then I would stick with it. Tired of having to think to move a file from one app to another, or try to do a poster in procreate that is only 7 layers...and can we talk about the ability to color calibrate please!
Why UA-camrs think video editting is the "most" pro task that you can make on a computer? On surface pro you can develop apps! You can install full visual studio, full Linux subsystem for windows, you can install ROS, Jetbrains's IDE, java, c++ development, android studio You can develop AI algorithms with tensorflow in python
Hi, if I use apps like AstroPad or Duet Display Pro to mirror the screen from Windows laptop to Apple iPad Pro, does that mean I can open multiple Windows' apps, and at the same time being able to enjoy the drawing experience and quality of Ipad? If it is, which mirroring app from Window to iPad do u recommend?
I tried to find it on your channel, but your latest review on mirroring apps is from 2 years ago, would really like to watch some update review on that topic. Thank you so much Brad, I really enjoy your channel. xx
Surface is a lot better because it’s a full laptop: you can do anything that a regular Windows desktop does. But optimization of apps goes to iPad because drawing and animating is a lot easier to use if you’re not familiar with desktop interfaces.
Hey Brad, I was just about to buy the iPad Pro 2020 12.9 inch model, with the Pencil 2, for animation and stuff... Is is worth buying if I already have a decent PC for editing and exporting files that I create in the iPad? Cuz the Surface Book 3 is a bit over my price point at $1600... Hope you or someone can help! Cheers!
Hey Brad. I was thinking of buying the Samsung s6 because of it's features but then I stubled over the lenovo ideapad duet. It can actually do everything I wanted but is lacking a pen right now. But it supports USI stylus pens. What are your thoughts on that device?
Agree about the price. While I am not wanting to just spend money. I am looking for power to run 3D Studio Max (GPU Rendering-still images not animations) / sketching tablet. I find it frustrating that I can't buy a powerful "workstation" with a touchscreen / sketching capability.
The general user isn’t interested in drawing or video editing... but instead Life and Living. Browsers, files, interactions (keyboards, drop down box interactions, website navigation without errors, video watching, games, multitasking, etc.). Hardly any coverage for suitability and venues (in vehicles, hotel, on lap, airplanes, on desk, multiple monitor, ...)
The iPad Pro and the Windows Surface are two different devices as the Surface utilizes Windows, a WIMP (Windows, Icon, Mouse, Pointer) Graphic User Interface greatly influenced by MacOS. Microsoft decided to incorporate touch into Windows, which Apple eschewed outside of iOS. All of the applications running on a Microsoft Surface device are available, as well, on a Apple Desktop or Laptop running MacOS
Could you review Samsung's Galaxy Book Flex? It is said to be have it all. Full Windows, pen support which is said to be better than surface book 3. Could it be appropriate to depend on it as main art machine? We would really be able to tell with all the pen tests you show.
I really like how you approached these 2 devices Brad! Really clear and concise review, even if I'm not looking to buy these two your video is very informative for this perspective. Thank you and keep going! :D
Hi Brad, would you recommend to buy iPad just for drawing. I'm looking for a device just to draw illustration (hobby and stuffs) and upgrading myself from Wacom pen tablet. It would mean a lot if I get your suggestions. Thanks
Is the 15" Surface Book too big? Due to the type of work, I do I know the Surface Book is better for me but I am torn between the 13" and the 15" due specs difference and size. Unfortunately, I don't have a Microsoft Store to check for myself but I fear a 15" tablet would be too big to handle comfortably.
I have bought a 13 inch gen 1 and took a look at a 15 inch today. It's not unusable at 15 inches but it's big with those thick bezels. I believe 13 inches is all that you usually need.
I’d say the same thing: if you only need drawing then go with the ipad. And by drawing I would also add drawing without the need to look at references on a different display. For all the rest the Surface Book is a better machine. I do miss that big 15 inches display and my two external touch monitors sometimes.
@@gabbyvelasquez3767 which means further reducing an already small drawing area... to see only a single reference image. It's a nightmare. You need a second display to directly look at references in a suitable way. Apple have the possibility to use an external monitor with the usb c iPads but all it did with it is the ability to (badly) mirror the content of what's shown on your iPad. On the Surface Book with its 15" I could spare some space to show references using an amazing utility called Pureref while maintaining a generous amount of drawing area if I weren't on the desk. Apple really needs to work on the multitasking side of its OS.
When you first get the surface book 3 the pen experience is bad. however. you HAVE TO go to the surface app and then change the settings for the pen to a thinner line. it makes the quality so much better. the difference is night and day. Again you have to adjust the settings for the pen in the surface app for surface book 3.

And on top of that you can use the iPad as a second display when working on the Macbook.
is it just me who has surface and ipad combo
@@timdawg6413 Which you prefer?
I work in Krita with up to 25 layers + non-destructive filters. Surface is the way to go.
Well you can use blender on your surface book!
Hey Brad, one question, what iPad apps would you recommend in general?
He has a whole video about it somewhere.
Number One: Procreate (BEST DRAWING APP EVER, just 5usd for life!!) if you can get the 12 inch ipad and apple pencil do!!!!
-Number Two: Affinity Photo (basically as good as photoshop but just a once off payment for life of about 50usd) 🙂🙂🙂
-Some people use ‘Clip Studio’ but I haven’t myself yet 🙂🙂🙂
-Marvel have a colouring app for colouring the marvel comic book heros that is a fun app too for practicing color and shading of drawings 🙂🙂🙂
-Also I would recommend: the app Udemy, and purchase the two courses Brad has there for ‘Procreate app,’ and ‘Affinity Photo’ app, Brad has the BEST tutorial videos in those two courses on the Udemy app for learning how to use those two apps 🙂🙂🙂🙂
If you want to be a youtuber: Viva Video, or iMovie 🙂 for editting recorded videos 🙂
@@r1r597 tbh I'd say neither of those. Recently I've been using Videoleap which is alright, and there's lumafusion which is more "professional"
Sure chrome is recommend for browsing in general
Wow, finally a video where the reviewer is not hating apple or Microsoft, but really shows the pros and cons, and judging them equally. Really enjoyed!
A Samsung Galaxy Book Flex review please!! I know you got a chance to work with it at the last tech conference but a full review would rock!!
YES, Please the Samsung Flex!
Planning on it. I decided to get the 15 inch, better specs and a bigger screen and it was only $50 more. The problem is that the 13 shipped last month and I'm not sure when the 15" will get here (possibly Friday?) I'm excited about it and planning a review as soon as I can.
Your so consistent and your work is amazing
Brad random question. I have a surface pro 4 and the pen is horrible. Do you recommend a Wacom stylus for it? Would it work?
I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Flex and it’s amazing. The pen is almost as good as the apple pen and it runs a full operating system. The pen I use on it is the Staedtler that can be purchased on amazon. Hands down better then the surface book.
Psst.. The "i" is missing in iPad in your featured still frame for the video 🤫
Edit : yea you fixed it!
I fixed it because I saw your comment :D
@@thebradcolbow I was wondering for a second, what's a Pad Pro 🤣
I managed to buy a used surface book 2 here in Brazil, it looked brand new because the previous owner barely used it. Those laptops aren't being sold here and if you import it you're almost paying the price of a car for it. An iPad pro looks so good but it is also expensive. I got used to the line jitter, I started using clip studio pro and the line quality there is way better. That's the only negative thing I can say about it so far, I love it.
The new iPad keyboard is insulting (price), I think I’m done with Apple.
A2Z There are many good keyboards not from Apple and are cheaper
Surprising conclusion (really expected you to go for the iPad), but great comparison!! 👍
I agree with your assessment on this review. Both great products but I like to travel for long periods of time and need the functionality of a full on computer. But my Surface 2 also gives me the the functionality of a tablet for drawing.
Mr. Colbow, nice review of each device, unbiased straight forward, Pros & Cons of both devices.
It would change the game!!!!
if you don't mind me asking for the Surface Book 3 is there an alternative solution to get around it, or is the drawing experience good enough?
For that purpose the iPad is unbeatable.
The Surface Book is to engineers what the iPad is to artists.
Hmm and interesting plus "thing" we can add to the Drawing stage, is with the Surface book 3 you can connect a drawing tablet or a drawing display.
Thx i have both but no pencil for iPad so I’m choosing
Surface book pricing is ridiculous, pretty sure you could squeeze a more powerful PC, a huion and an ipad pro for the price of the 15 inch one
Exactly. You are paying a high premium for a compromised experience.
That's because there aren't many other device like the surface book
@@TimewarpGame Compromised drawing experience? The surface book isn't designed for drawing so judging it by its drawing capability isn't fair, that's like judging the ipad by its video editing capability. The fact that the surface book can support wacom pen is good enough and alot of people even manage to create amazing art with it just look it up on youtube
Until the Surface gets their pen wobble thing sorted, the ipad will always have them beat for drawing
I don't think it is as big a deal as he makes it out to be. I've never noticed it. Had a surface pro for a year. If you're doing super slow strokes you may as well enable smoothing. Doing normal speed strokes it's unnoticeable. The surface pen has more friction and an better tip as well.
totally software related, photoshop sucks for illustration you get "clip studio paint" line stabilization and you get 0 pen line jitter.
Your camera is so good that when I'm watching videos on my phone, while it's on a stand at a distance, it looks like a tiny person is talking to me 😂 I can't get over it!
I like dis comment and your perspective.
I understand your perspective but I disagree. Multitasking is a new feat on ipad, knowing Apple they will invest in the interface more than Microsoft. With transition to arm you essentially are moving forward with times and not staying attached to stagnate tech.
Surface book +apple pen experience... The best combo that will never happen😑
Thank you!
Tip when taking out the tablet form Surface Book: Pull it off from the side up, not rock it front/back =)
Which is better , Surface book 3 vs dell XPS 17 + samsung tab s6 lite? please let me know
I just bought the tab s6 lite and I love it. The 11” iPad Pro and Cintiq are my daily drivers, but bought the tab s6 lite to play around with the android eco system, and have a device to draw for fun on. It’s a really good little device.
@@sloppynyuszi how is the s pen experience ? Also please suggest a few sketching apps for the s6 . Thank you
I disagree with the price category because price definitely had something to do with me going for the iPad Pro.
Hey Brad, are you planning to check Huawei's MatePad Pro?
Does anyone else learn drawing tips while watching him draw on reviews/comparisons?
Why UA-camrs think video editting is the "most" pro task that you can make on a computer?
On surface pro you can develop apps! You can install full visual studio, full Linux subsystem for windows, you can install ROS, Jetbrains's IDE, java, c++ development, android studio
You can develop AI algorithms with tensorflow in python
2:40 iPadOS can read sd card media with the files app are you talking about the physical ports not being able to read so by itself ?
Correct, that wasn't clear, I meant that there was no SD card slot.
love these even though i already have an ipad and pencil
Right😅 I watched it on my iPad.
Same bro I commented on this comment on my 12.9" iPad pro 2020 with lidar. Yeah it's pretty sick

Thank you so much Brad, I really enjoy your channel. xx
Great reviewa as always! Loved each catergory and how you explained them
Can you try Huawei MatePad Pro?
Good video! Please make a comparison video on ipad pro 2020 vs. Huawei matepad pro. Thank you 👍 👍
Microsoft is making quiet moves, even on the Xbox side of things.
Would you prefer this over the galaxy flex for drawing?
Surface is a lot better because it’s a full laptop: you can do anything that a regular Windows desktop does. But optimization of apps goes to iPad because drawing and animating is a lot easier to use if you’re not familiar with desktop interfaces.
Your reviews are always the bestt of all!
Cheers!
I loved this video! Great content 👍
The new studio setup is amazing!!
Hey Brad. I was thinking of buying the Samsung s6 because of it's features but then I stubled over the lenovo ideapad duet. It can actually do everything I wanted but is lacking a pen right now. But it supports USI stylus pens. What are your thoughts on that device?
Well Done. I have both and the Surface it clearly the winner for me.
Agree about the price. While I am not wanting to just spend money. I am looking for power to run 3D Studio Max (GPU Rendering-still images not animations) / sketching tablet. I find it frustrating that I can't buy a powerful "workstation" with a touchscreen / sketching capability.
I also gotan iPad Pro 2020 a day ago and when i use it it get Very hot very quickly. Is it the same with you or is mine broken ??????????
I'm from Germany and you are my favorite UA-camr
Hey brad. Wich one is better for art samsung galaxy s6 lite or note 10 lite
I got both . I use SB3 as my laptop and the pro for everything else.
You should try different surface pen tips. Maybe that will help get a seamless line when drawing
Hey Brad, are there any other UA-cam channels that you recommend watching for a beginner procreate artist?
Hi Brad, would you recommend to buy iPad just for drawing. I'm looking for a device just to draw illustration (hobby and stuffs) and upgrading myself from Wacom pen tablet. It would mean a lot if I get your suggestions. Thanks
Yes, for just drawing I love the iPad
Is the 15" Surface Book too big? Due to the type of work, I do I know the Surface Book is better for me but I am torn between the 13" and the 15" due specs difference and size. Unfortunately, I don't have a Microsoft Store to check for myself but I fear a 15" tablet would be too big to handle comfortably.
I have bought a 13 inch gen 1 and took a look at a 15 inch today.
It's not unusable at 15 inches but it's big with those thick bezels. I believe 13 inches is all that you usually need.
Can you do an updated version of the EASYCANVAS for the iPad pro!?
I’d say the same thing: if you only need drawing then go with the ipad.
And by drawing I would also add drawing without the need to look at references on a different display.
For all the rest the Surface Book is a better machine. I do miss that big 15 inches display and my two external touch monitors sometimes.
you can use the ipad and draw with references using split screen mode
@@gabbyvelasquez3767 which means further reducing an already small drawing area... to see only a single reference image.
It's a nightmare.
You need a second display to directly look at references in a suitable way. Apple have the possibility to use an external monitor with the usb c iPads but all it did with it is the ability to (badly) mirror the content of what's shown on your iPad.
On the Surface Book with its 15" I could spare some space to show references using an amazing utility called Pureref while maintaining a generous amount of drawing area if I weren't on the desk.
Apple really needs to work on the multitasking side of its OS.
This was really helpful. Thank you!
When you first get the surface book 3 the pen experience is bad. however. you HAVE TO go to the surface app and then change the settings for the pen to a thinner line. it makes the quality so much better. the difference is night and day. Again you have to adjust the settings for the pen in the surface app for surface book 3.
How is it so far?
@@ioozx2 some of the shortcut keys don't work...
Action Center Notification Icon, clock, and other things disappear completely from the taskbar at the worse possible time...(usually located on the right side of the taskbar)
The tablet alone only gets me only 45 minutes and with the keyboard connected i only get three hours before needing a charge...😠👎
Mouse Pad misses some finger gestures or responds late.
I got a really weird message after installing my window word 2010 (cuz i like that one) that none of Surface Technical Support understands...
I think these problems are more of a Windows 10 issue than a surface book 3 issue.
That said... I freaking love it! I love having the power of a desktop in huge 15in tablet. The form factor is the main reason I bought the SB3 for college and work. I have become a paperless student with MS OneNote
I have been eyeballing other 2 in 1s but the screen is not detachable like that blue Samsung that Floss just reviewed. So I guess I am keeping the SB3.
Question, which tablet performs best for 3d renders?
currently work with blender and zbrush, wondering if a tablet will smooth the work flow
I found that SideCar does work quite nice with the Ipad! Then you can use it as a graphic tablet on your mac! (but then it starts to be really expensive if you don't own one already)
I'm not buying any of these..
Just here for those tasty B-rolls..😍
