Kyle, great to show the gaffs with the good. Let's less experienced know that it is OK to make mistakes. We all do it. I think my videos are the poster child for sloppy CW POTA/SOTA. Let it all hang out and enjoy is my motto. 73 Bob WV7W
The perfectionist that you are, and the beautiful code you normally send, I think you staged the video as a teaching moment for us activators...heck, I even took a poop at the very end!
You need to look that paddle straight in the eye and in your best Chris Tucker voice scream “do you understand the words coming out of my fingers?????”
As someone just learning CW, I am seeing some of the things that I expect will be MY challenges. My wife and I started with Vibroplex keyers, that are made just up the road from us. Too bad they did not make us CW gurus overnight! Anyway, great video - thank you. 73 from S.E. Tenn. KQ4IXD
I feel your frustration. Had my own less than satisfying POTA activation today. In a time crunch (activating while family was enjoying the park) and couldn't find an open frequency on 20 or 40 for SSB. Hunted a little but patience is needed with 5W and ultimately had to resort to FT mode to get the last couple QSOs once the rest of the family was ready to move on. Perhaps I should have put my daughter on the mic to help me hunt. A YL seems to add several dB and break through pileups. Reinforces that I need to get comfy enough with CW to activate. Plenty of clear frequencies for CW. My copy is good enough I think but I'm still very erratic at sending.
I HAVE THAT SAME KEY AND HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. In fact, I was using it this weekend and it worked fine at the beginning, but started missing the 'dahs'. I had to hold the key down for a prolonged period of time to get it to work.
Maybe the Title should have been “where’s Kyle: adventures in how not to do pota?” Definitely feel your pain, had activations where I’ve forgotten the WRC!
Hey Kyle, I thought you did a really good job despite the road noise distractions. You have really come along quickly with your cw, good to see a young guy like yourself make use of the mode. 73 de n0km
I don't think I'm good enough to know why this was bad, sounded pretty awesome to me! I know you probably know that but just in case. If you play with your radio 5% of the time, and type on the keyboard most of the time, you should reposition your computer in front of you and the radio to the right. I find ergonomics help. I'd also strap my key to the table at a convenient location (or use a heavy base) but you seem to be pretty good at aircoding! :D
@@AA0Z yeah plus I don't think I would enjoy it on my leg for very long, don't know about you but my back is all sorts of screwed up, I kinda need to rest my elbows on something.
I'll try that again. I don't have much use on that key and thought I had fixed the issue as the screw ends were curved. I flattered them out and it worked great for a while but I now it's back to it's old tricks. Take a look at my N0SA key fixed video.
Oh ya that reminds me! I been meaning to ask where ya got the handle for that key. I got big ole mitts that little sucker is hard to hold onto. ( Dont Got there! I know your thinking it)
I'm in the process of welding mine up. A bit more elaborate, as once the mast is guyed, I'll be able to pull away from it and hoist another. Sticker shock on steel prices by the way. Too much happens in a decade of not working in an industry after relocating... (I'm using surplus M-44 mast sections. Currently all aluminum, but will be adding fiberglass also when all is said and done.)
Did you go back and listen again to figure out that station?. I get it, in the moment things can be hectic, plus you were already annoyed by the setup. I heard K0VK in AZ.
Great video! You got me through 45 minutes on the treadmill. Thanks and 73
LOL! I hope you burned a lot of calories!!!
You're like a less organized @ThomasK4SWL. Great video!
No comparison!
😂😂😂 Hilarious. 🤝🏆
🤣
@@AA0Z 🤣 You should see my office right now. Not at all organized.

LOL! I think I came home and took a poop also. Thanks for the kind words. My CW needs a lot of work as I don't get on the air very much and practice!

Lol. want to love that paddle so bad but it stinks like a turd.
I feel like I should donate to find the cure for early onset dementia.
Please!
@@AA0Z Haha. Thanks for making the video. It’s great practice for me to listen to CW POTA.

It’s the decode monster at work…. Like every time I activate.
Decode monster was more like the decode blackhole.

Some activations come together smooth and some are a challenge. This was one of them.
Awesome video Kyle! I hate phone logging as well, all paper and pencil.
Phone logging is a BITB!
@@AA0Z you can say that again.
I like that you show that it doesn't always work the way you want it to

Yeah, it was a master class in frustration.
Fun video Kyle! Thank you. 🤝
Thanks!
Dirty contact on the paddle.
I would like to hope so but I clean these contacts after every other activation. I think there is something else going on.

I just need to get on the air more.
Hey Kyle, I need to send you a PackTenna random wire antenna to avoid your antenna wire mess 🙂
I would not refuse a good antenna!! Lol.

LOL. Thanks. Yeah, the ergonomics for this POTA were pretty bad. I've tried the strap to my leg thing and it just moves around too much.

AHHH! I loved using that key but it just kept messing up. Didn’t you mod that thing to work better? Nice activation Kyle!
