Poem 1 and 2: Oh it's so cheerful and happy, don't know why everybody is saying its depressing. Poem 3: Ok, going a bit downhill, but not to bad still. Poem 4: Ok, didn't fell like sleeping tonight anyways, sleep is for the weak.
My English class from about 16 years ago brought me here lol 😂 “tintanabulation that so musically spells” was the line that jogged my memory and I had to come searching for it
From Kenya, I am a 3rd year University Literature Student. This poem was introduced to me by my Lecturer Dr. J.K.S Makokha. I can't help but listen to it on repeat! The end gives me the jitters!
this is great. it shows the progression into madness. feom a view of happiness and bliss slowly descending into a frantic view of anger fear and terror. well done.
Hello, I really enjoyed that video. Where did you get the footage? Also, was this for high school? Also: how long did it take to edit? We're studying Poe in my class (I teach 8th grade at King Middle School in Oceanside, CA) and I think you really did that poem a great service with the video. Great job
In the mid-1980’s, our 6th-grade (or so) class could pick this poem to read or recite… I don’t recall the exact details. But it was when LL Cool J’s song, “Rock the Bells” was out, and all of these kids were attempting to read it in a hip-hop style, yelling “BELLS!” in LL’s voice. 😁
we will be presenting that poem and we will compete district level and all the schools that will gonna be competing has the same poem "the bells" and the delivering and the expressions of the poem and that's we will be competing
I like it better when it’s read slowly.. and the word “bells” sounds like the sound of bells. Onomatopoeia. Oh yes!! I forgot that it’s different kinds of bell sounds!! Happy like wedding bells.. to death bells (like funeral church bells).
First: Childhood Second: Marriage Third: Older, more aware of the horrible things in life, lost of innocence, perhaps that marriage is becoming more unhealthy and strained Fourth: Death
In a brief description, its about how at first, he welcomes the sound of the bells and how beautiful they are, such as wedding bells, but towards the end, the bells are deivunf him crazy and are terrifying
In my la class we explained it so basically there are four bells one for childhood and innocence the second for getting married and becoming a young adult the third is kind of like as you become older and become more aware of the horrible things in life and lose your innocence and the fourth bell is death
Stanza 1 is all happy and merry and its also childhood stanza 2 is happy and exciting its also Youth Stanza 3 is a tale of terror it is not great and its adulthood stanza 4 is very mournfully and upsetting it is basically death
I agree. It could also represent Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter, especially since the seasons correlate with the stages of life. Time is mentioned throughout the poem which only further supports either interpretation. One of my favorites, though I love most everything that Edgar Allan Poe wrote.
Idk but I think I this has a subliminal message because I feel really disturbed hearing this. I think this is what is having a lot of kids commit suicide and do school shootings... Most people think its because it comes from their families or bullying. Maybe a little of bullying but this is what it is. We don't know what we study in school and unfortunately students get affected psychologically, mentally and leads them to suicide and other crazy things. This poem is death it's really disturbing and i didn't even watched it all.
or maybe the poem is meant to leave you unsettled. it's not subliminal messaging, and people dont kill themselves because of this. that really pisses me off.
This reading was way too fast. did not do this poem justice. Poe is my favorite author. This needs to be told slower and with more distress in the voice.
In the 3rd part of this, I hear bits of the intro to "The Paradoxical Spiral" by Meshuggah. I could be wrong, but it sounds buried in a mix of other music.

So who is the reciter? He did a really good job especially giving the dark, ominous tone at the end, gave me shivers
Drebolaskan Tom O’Bedlam! I’ll go edit the description so that he’s credited
I only thought if General Sam trying to sound serious
Owner of the voice is Tom O'Bedlam-- you can find a lot more of his stuff at Spoken Verse

Best played at 75% - he reads too fast.
This guy is bad at singing this poem, he makes it sound dull and depressing.
Terrible reading
What songs are used in this?
In the 3rd part of this, I hear bits of the intro to "The Paradoxical Spiral" by Meshuggah. I could be wrong, but it sounds buried in a mix of other music.
