The Outwaters was super solid ff. It wasn’t run of the mill. It has a candid feel to it and the presence of the characters felt very natural. It was really good. It all kinda made sense. It wasn’t really pretentious and I don’t get how it got ppl confused.
Holly shit, Robbie? He did a masterful job with Outwaters! One of the best cosmic horror movies I have ever seen. If you wanna experience lovecraftian craziness with found footage, watch it right now, it is craaaazy!
I just finished The Outwaters and it just didn't have enough of a coherent plot for me to even know what was happening. Spoilers: It's obviously a portal the guys going through where he's reborn or something but after you see the first guy with an axe, everything goes downhill because nothing makes sense. The idea is there. The outline is there. But the execution was horrible.
While as a whole, this film didn’t quite grasp a hold for me, there were many things I absolutely loved- the sound was fantastic and very refreshing- the mystery of what I was seeing kept me glued, and the ending was a great landing- my biggest issue was not being able to make out a good portion of the 3rd act, which I’m sure was very deliberate but just didn’t resonate like I had hoped/ I do wish you well on your next project and can’t aIt to see
I admired the ballsy originality of Outwaters but it ultimately fell pretty flat for me. Kinda reminded me of Enter the Void if it didn’t follow through on its high concept.
Thanks for the video, good interview. The Outwaters though, (and I'm sorry to say that) was nearly unwatchable. There are good ideas in there and interesting concepts, but the execution is inexcusable. Not sure if it works better in theater, but on streaming it just gave me a headache. Couldn't stop thinking what Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead would have done with this material. Given the lack of budget a more thought provoking approach would have worked better than trying to stuff in unconvincing gore and 20 minutes of pinhole flashlight chaos. That being said, hope Robbie can grow from this and do a better movie next time...
I’m 100% the target audience for a movie like this but ya know, the thing about movies is that you have to be able to, ya know, watch them; literally 70% of this movie is unwatchable due to the incredibly low fov, the entire first arc is just a test of patients due to the insufferable characters. Last 10 minutes are solid, will give them that. Robbie seems like a really solid guy though, will check out what he puts out next.
This movie would've been ten times better if it was a short. You don't get to know the characters and you really don't care what happens to them. The first half especially is a snooze fest. I really don't get how and/or why is this guy being pushed to the frontlines? Host was scary af, Skinamarink had its moments but this one is just a badly made found footage movie that brings nothing original to the table. There are so many talented indie filmmakers waiting to be discovered yet they don't get the chance. I just don't get it.
I was planning on watching the movie a few weeks ago, but I think I'll rent it soon. Update: I just finished watching it. Such a bad pretentious movie.
