    This is such a great video. So much detailed info I wasn't aware of. I was convinced I wanted the RWD SE for the maximum EPA range, compromising on winter drivability as I live in an area with snow. Now, with the front axle disconnect in ECO mode, maybe AWD SEL is the way to go. Looking forward to the range tests in ECO mode!

      The ioniq 5 is the same way with the front motor disconnect. It still doesn't get the same range as a rwd though. Any time the cruise control is on it disconnected the front motor as well

      No experience with winter range yet, but with my Ioniq 5 AWD over the last few weeks with mostly local city driving in warm weather I've been getting efficiency that would put me at around 300 mi on a full charge. And I like to hammer the accelerator every now and then to remind myself it's an EV :). City driving should be comparable on the Ioniq 6, and highway should be much better with the far superior aero.

    • @joel89039
      @joel89039 Рік тому +1

      @@mousepad3000 I have had my ioniq 5 for 2 winters now. The range definitely drops by about 10-20% on the highway depending on temps obviously. I also found that city range is way less just because we make lots of short trips heating up the car frequently.

    I’ve owned an Ioniq 5 for about 4 months now, and have taken two 700 mile road trips. One of the biggest reasons I chose it, is because I specifically did not want a Tesla, and I wanted 300 miles of range. I think I worried it too much about range. When I go on a road trip, at 52 years old, I’m ready for a break every couple of hours anyway. I generally charge that often whether I need to or not. And this Hyundai/Kia platform, charges wonderfully.

    • @tonyn3227

      Knowing hor crappy charging infrastructure is for non tesla vehicles, I could not drive anything but tesla. I made my right decision.

    • @Bum_Hip
      @Bum_Hip Рік тому +2

      @@tonyn3227 I’m happy you’re pleased with your Tesla. All EV enthusiasts owe that company a debt of gratitude for pioneering the segment. Also, we’re spending big bucks for these cars, and we should be comfortable with our choices. However I have to disagree with your comment on charging infrastructure. Both of my 700+ road trips were a breeze. This week I drove from Vegas to San Diego, and had ZERO issues charging. The EA 350 KW chargers got me on my way in 20 minutes, (+\- a few depending on state of charge, but never more than 25) and while I did encounter one “dead” charger, I simply moved over to the one next to it, and it was all good. Have you used the EA system, or are you basing your opinion on something else? Genuinely curious.

    • @tonyn3227
      @tonyn3227 Рік тому +1

      @E S I charge on tesla superchargers only, but I did try charge point, by a mall looked warn out and it didn't work, I also tried at electrify America and out of 4, 2 were down, I just don't bother anymore just use tesla, you were lucky that you haven't had issues on your trips, including Kyle on thi Chanel and other ones, claim its a. Nightmare

    • @Bum_Hip
      @Bum_Hip Рік тому +2

      @@tonyn3227 it’s possible that issues are geographically dependent. Maybe they have their act together better on the west coast than the Rocky Mountain region. Plus the weather is much more temperate here than the much of the country. I watched an EA review he did on charging in sub zero weather. The title suggests it was not possible, yet he ultimately did get his charged. I found it misleading. To be clear, Kyle does great, in depth work, but like most things in life, things are not always as black and white as we might wish. That said, I have no doubt Tesla Chargers are the leading network, and are forcing EA(and others) to improve. For that I’m grateful.

    Seeing your comment about the headroom . . . I was worried about that due to the sloping rear end. I checked the stats on the Hyundai web site and the SEL without the sunroof has almost 2 inches more headroom, front and rear, compared to the Limited. I will be interested in what you find when you start testing the efficiency - the numbers seem considerably better for the Ioniq 6 than the Ioniq 5, some of that may be due to the lower drag coefficient but I also wonder about the wheel/tire selection on the 6 vs. the 5. Clearly the 18 inch wheels on the SE make a big improvement in efficiency. Thanks for another great review - can't wait for the driving review!

Specs indicate a great road tripper. The EV market is changing so rapidly but needed to jump with the choice I made, which I’m very happy with. Kyle, you make lots of great points about the M3 but I can’t get over the styling, so boring and generic looking. Plus I live in an area with extremely high M3 and MY density, so didn’t want to be another sheep in the pack. With our Ioniq 5 AWD in Eco mode the front wheels do engage from a stop to about 12-15 mph or when ascending a very steep grade. At least according to the power distribution graphic on the instrument panel screen they do. The Iconic 5 is probably one of the better styled traditional format compact SUV / cross overs. But personally I find this format of car too boring in general. Tesla broke the mould with the model Y but it looks too much like an egg for me. The Model 3 is such a design success that I believe it has triggered a resurgence in demand for sedans in general. The ideal format for me is the Model S, with the style of a sedan and practically of a hatchback.

Thankfully it starts at an amazingly high efficiency for this size vehicle!

    Gotta love smart park. A feature that allows you to park between other cars that do not have that feature and will not be able to get back in their car. I would call it "Smart Dent" because of all the dents and keying people will get with this feature. Maybe in your own, tight garage at home but anything else is asking for damage unfortunately.

    What is the width of the trunk opening. This is not listed anywhere. It looks quite wide and I would love to compare it with the width of the honda fit. The fit's opening is just enough to allow so much utility and this is the kind of thing you never think you will use but probably will if you have kids. Things like a stroller with a box of costco groceries beside it and such.

    Kyle, you mentioned that your/our efficiency drops using I pedal. I own an Ioniq 5, limited 320 hp…When I first started driving it I used I pedal a majority of the time when driving it. Then another owner mentioned that using level 2 your efficiency will increase. I normally drive using eco, with level 2 regeneration. Although I have never let the battery go lower than 35%. ( I normally charge to 89%.) When I crunch the numbers the range would be 290 to 295 miles. I live in Northern NJ and use preconditioning, thank God it works.. Electrify America is spotty at best and is the weakest link with chargers often not working at capacity, with some units purposely lowered for what they call a program update. It has been over a month and this alleged update hasn’t been installed. There are no 350 kw charges within 35 miles of my home and EA has no updates planned that they will share, when asked. Have you done a test with level 2 regeneration? Could you, I would be interested in your results. Btw, I love the car. Thank you for doing such thorough reviews. They are much appreciated.

    Range is affected by the giant wheels on the higher trims AFAIK. Like 50 extra miles if you go with the smaller ones

    The styling looks pretty good to me. Agree the rear view could be better. Personally I'm not a big fan of the "Cross over" shape of the Ioniq 5 (or other cross overs for that matter) but then I don't deny they are more practical.

    whoa is that color Green...? (I like it already) given the Black, White, Silver, paint standardization embraced by OEMS the past 20 years you don't see very many Green cars any more. it was all the rage in the 90's.

      I have an Ioniq 5 SEL and I was looking at the limited. Unfortunately jumping from SEL to Limited is less about build/materials and more about features I didn't care about anyway. The 20" wheels on the Limited Ioniq 5 aren't exactly inspiring either.

    So, the SEL AWD edition is rated at 270 miles combined. The Hyundai website shows the combined and highway MPGe rating and it loses about 9% for highway from combined. That 270 becomes 246. You will charge at about 10% so another 27 off so you end up at 219 for your first leg. Then you can only charge to 80% quickly so another 54 off the top so you are at 165. So roughly charging for 20 minutes to an hour every 2 hours of driving...
    Even in the most efficient vehicles this is what it seems to always work out to.

    1:45 According to the Tesla configurator the destination fee is an extra $1,390 on top of the $42,990 vehicle price. Edit: The $250 order fee that used to be deducted from the final invoice is now an extra charge as well. So the total price excluding sales tax and incentives is $44,630 for the cheapest Model 3.

    • @unsafelyunfit7761

      @@unsafelyunfit7761 It was like this in the past. But if you don't believe me, you can just open the configurator, scroll down to "Continue to Payment" and klick on it. On the next page you will see the following summary:
      Vehicle Price: $42990
      Destination fee: $1390
      Order fee: $250
      Your Model 3: $44630
      That is as new to me as it is to you. I bought a Model 3 in December and the order fee was refunded with the final invoice, but it seems like they changed that. Why would they not say it in their price summary if you get the money back with delivery of the car?

    The AC charger might be very cheap and as you chose the cost effective option it spat that out, what if you choose the fastest option, or maybe there is a min charger speed option.

      That was going to be my comment as well. Kyle chose cost effective, and AC charging would be cheaper than DC fast charging....Hopefully, the driver can set minimum charging specs, or AC/DC as another said, and the route planner will do a much better job.
