Nian gao (年糕) is a traditional Chinese New Year treat made from glutinous rice flour and brown sugar. $18.50 is way too expensive compared to the modern plastic container ones tho in my opinion.
I was thinking the same but I'll buy it for the sake of the video. You can certainly buy cheaper ones at the other stores. Happy New Year!!
