I bought one that is made in April, just a few months old straight from a Chinese factory. Metal knobs, perfect craftsmanship regarding finish, neck pocket, fret ends, tuners. EVERYTHING IS GREAT! :) Love the lil beast :)
I'm a gigging musician and I've been playing the Ibanez GSRM 25 (5 string) bass for well over a year. Have never had it professionally set up, just my own tweaks. I love playing it and with my SansAmp DI I can get all the tone I need. I get a lot of compliments on my sound. I don't use an amp on stage. I go direct and we have IEMs. I don't even touch any of my other basses anymore.
Mine is black with a maple fingerboard. I paid about $179 and It sounds awesome with it's steel strings. I had it for years, and have used it at gigs. I love short scale basses and this is my shortest and I love it to death!
Great video giving love to the Mikro. I've traveled the world with mine that I bought in 2019. I'm getting ready to embark on an African and European tour, and I'm very seriously considering flying with just my Mikro, a Sansamp and tuner.
Great vid. Got mine because of your it and I Love it. I'm a guitar guy but Ive had a few basses. Dr Heartfield is the only one I had left until looking into the Mikro and seeing your vid. When the box arrived, it seemed so small. I thought I was going to have to put it together. It looked like a toy. I'm like, no way this can be good. Hooked it up and I was blown away. Now, I don't wanna put it down. Been playing it more than my guitars. Oh, the control knobs are metal. I checked with a magnet, like one comment suggested. However the controllers inside/splines are plastic. It's all good for now, but I'll probably be upgrading pickups and stuff in the future. But, as is, It surprisingly Good. I'm having a whole lot of fun with it. Oh, I read for the J pickup replacement to use a neck pickup because of the size. Whatcha think? I don't recall you mentioning that in the vid. Anyway, thanks for the Awesome vid.
I'm glad everything worked out for you. It's a fun little bass that can sound really huge. Yes the J pickup needs to be a neck pickup. I was able to assemble a complete Quick connect kit at guitar fetish with a 10.6k P pickup and a 10k J neck pickup. At around $100 it wasn't as cheap as a preassembled kit but it's what you gotta do with this bass and could have been more $$$. Depending on your set up you may need to route the pickup cavities a little deeper too.
I watched many reviews on this bass before I bought it as a bass to teach my son bass on and I ended up falling in love with how this bass plays and sounds. I play at church and I gig/record with this bass sometimes.
Gidday from Australia just found your channel great stuff . i own 2 of these mikro bass PLEASE PLEASE PUT SOME PICCOLO STRINGS ON IT TRUST ME ITS INCREDIBLE AND PLEASE DO A VIDEO IF YOU DO THANK YOU
You're the 2nd person to ask me this and the first to do it so emphatically, lol. I will do it. I can't be sure exactly yet when I will get to it but I will definitely do it. It sounds like a great experiment at least and probably a whole lot of fun. how should I tune it?
Standard tuning and string guage. try to find short scale strings but standard scale strings work too. I've heard it can be used as a piccolo bass with the right strings too.
@@MasterofRB2 there's plenty of harmonics in the strings. it's just a tension thing. the little bass sounds bigger because it sounds girthier. Doing harmonics on strings is about gain

They are a whole lot of fun and surprise everyone who hears them.

@@RJsCave oh, thanks for the heads up. I'll keep that in mind.

That's wonderful to read. They are very fun little instruments
I actually just bought one this Christmas. I absolutely love it, much shreddage❤
The music in the backround is a little distracting from your review
Thanks for telling me. 👍I do try to keep it lower in my newer videos
Dropping by to say I bought this bass after watching this vid. You rock, RJ! 🤘🏽
Thank you. Enjoy your new bass!
I own one and I love it!
Good looking, good sounding little bass. I'm thinking about getting me one.
They're definitely fun to play
Great review RJ, that was awesome 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥
About the knobs on the bass, I just got one and the knobs that came with mine are metal.
Thanks for letting me know!
Get a magnet.
Yep. Mine are metal too. Got it 10/2024. And, I tested it with a magnet. The innside splines, however, are plaztic.
Got a black one with semore duncan quarter pounders pickups and a ksm music bridge...🤪
bet it sounds HUGE
bet it sounds HUGE
Dude! Why did you not miked the amp?

Does this Mikro bass tune to standard or is it an alternative tuning? Also, does it use different/lighter gauge strings?
Standard tuning and string guage. try to find short scale strings but standard scale strings work too. I've heard it can be used as a piccolo bass with the right strings too.
@@RJsCave Nice! I saw on a forum that lighter strings can be used to tune it up to G standard which would be an interesting sound.
@@MasterofRB2 I can see that working with this crazy short scale. The benefit of this scale is the lack of harmonics. it has a big boomy sound.
@@RJsCave so wait, can you not play harmonic notes on this neck?
@@MasterofRB2 there's plenty of harmonics in the strings. it's just a tension thing. the little bass sounds bigger because it sounds girthier. Doing harmonics on strings is about gain
Did you move the bridge back??
no reason to.
This bass is smaller than Glarry GW 101 bass?
No. scale length is 28.6 inches. the glarry is 25.5 inches
that background music...
Good? Bad?
@@RJsCave For me it is disturbing. I don' t understand this trend. Sorry :)
@@indexmiro I understand. It's because millenials need a lot of stimulation to keep them from clicking away.
The music is great, but it's a bit loud, making it harder to understand what you are saying.
With a head like mine, it's completely impossible to listen to your review and the background music at the same time. I just gave up after 30 seconds.
I just ordered the Ibanez Mikro in 5 string. I'll be sure to check the knobs but I'm betting they're still plastic. Lol.
Please let me know! and your opinion too!
So? Were they?
@@yeoldefoxeh254 I ordered it from a local guitar shop and they haven't gotten it in yet.
Mine are metal!!
Mine are metal too. Got it 10/24. Checked with a magnet. The inside/splines however are plastic.
wtf??????
