Hey Nick, thanks so much for making these videos and sharing your knowledge! I appreciate your level-headed approach to mods and that your top priority seems to be taking care of the engine over the long-term as opposed to just making as much noise and power as possible. It's helped me to wade through all of the disinformation regarding bikes, air/fuel, etc. out there. Might pick one of these up next year! I'll be coming off of an XT250. While the XT is a surprisingly capable trail bike in its own right, the KLX will be a huge upgrade and should allow me to grow for years to come. Hope you're healing up well and that there'll be more vids in the future!
I put a T-6 on mine and it feels exactly like a late 80's era XR500. Long stroke with a ton of flywheel. Great machine for doing exactly what you're doing!
I just bought a 2020 Klx300r myself. After much searching around I decided to go with a delkevic 9” pipe and the thing sounds like an absolute beast! NOW, this much I’ll tell you, when I opened up the air box stock it made zero difference so I put the snorkel back in because I thought it was running hotter, then I realized that the stupid bike runs hotter than hell just stock! So after I put the pipe on it there was some short pops and when I removed the snorkel again it helped with the popping and THEN a there was a huge power difference between the new pipe and opened air box. However I am of the mindset you are, and engine life means something to me. So I ended up ordering the older KDX snorkel that is supposed to fit the 2020klx air box , which will allow more air to flow in but won’t be completely opened up to allow dirt in there. Im not going to mess with the mapping if I don’t have to. That is my one knock on this bike aside from the garbage foot pegs that come stock, nobody should have to do all this other nonsense just to throw a silencer on a bike
@@jaydenstang9881 that's the cheapest you'll find for now until used ones come for sale. Worth every penny though! I picked mine up March 5th and have put about 10 hours on it by now, wicked bike and super fun. I mostly do trail riding here in eastern Ontario (tweed to bancroft area) but it's super fun and good for technical stuff too
@@tandpnetwork7102 yup. But if you really want to do it you will be fine. It won't help a single bit without giving it more fuel to compensate for the added air. I'm just tired of trying to explain to people that just adding air to am engine doesn't help it. Since you have the pc5 you won't hurt your engine significantly but it will run mildly lean.
@@Nick-fs8vg Okay, that's what I was thinking. You seem to know what you are talking about. I dont want to alter anything if its going to damage my engine in any way. I'll just leave it as it is. Thanks man
I'm at 5000 feet in this video so opening the lid didnt scare me to much. I did put it back on though because it wasn't worth it to me. I'm going to look into deleting some of this emissions crap.
Where are you riding? You have the best riding representation of this KLX300R on UA-cam. Do you ride soft/ hard enduro? Would be interesting to see your take on that type of riding with this machine.
I'm riding in montana. In the next coming weeks I will have videos of more hard enduro stuff. I have a feeling the bike is going to handle it very well. My yz250x is geared to high for that stuff a lot of times. On this soft enduro stuff in this video it is an absolute blast. It corners so damn well I couldn't believe it. But its held back by the soft suspension in really bumpy areas.
Nick406 Great to hear. I haven’t had a chance to ride mine as it is against the law in NJ to ride on public land and this covid thing has my club in Pennsylvania closed until further notice. 😩 Keep posting videos. They are very good.
It just got louder. A lot of people make that mistake. When it sounds like you are going faster you think you are bit if you timed laps you would see otherwise.
@@Nick-fs8vg Sorry man, I haven't done, nor will I do a dyno-test, but I'm savvy. When you open up the air intake & exhaust, you get gains on any engine. These are felt and real. Enough to warrant the $$. $300 for a pipe and power is cheap.
Fmf sells 2 different types or header. One is out of stock right now. I found an exhaust like 2 months ago but can’t for the life of me remember where I saw it at. Would love to know your thoughts after deleting emissions stuff and what the weight is.
@@ccld6435 I called fmf and they are currently developing a silencer for this. One that comes I'm buying the headed and the silencer and will do a video for everyone. I bet it helps a ton.
@@ccld6435 power commander doesnt make anything for this yet. It is my understanding that this bike has an o2 sensor which would read airflow. But I also can see it anywhere. If you have any experience in this I'm all ears.

May 7th pro circuit released T6 exhaust for 2020 klx 300r. Fyi.
An fmf muffler is what really woke up my 2020 300r
Fmf? They have a silencer for this now?
Yeah
Dude I took my spark arrestor off and my air box cover and it pops wheelies in second just boppin the throttle a bit.
Did you get a fuel turner first or just take it off
Sweet wheelie 👍
Dude your the reason I'm getting one,and you can't beat the price they want $4,700 for one by my house at hall's moto sport.
Ya the price is awesome. Once this bike is opened up a bit with a pipe it will be perfect for what I bought it for. It's still good though.
Up here in Canada the cheapest I can find is $5999

I have the PC5 with FMF tune and PC exhaust. I see people doing the KDX200 snorkel upgrade. Would you recommend that?
You could definitely try it. Or you could just take the snorkel out all together too

Nice! Hopefully they open the border soon. Wanting to go to Day in the Dirt but prob won’t happen.

fuel injection makes elevation moot.

Are the valves tappet adjustable or do you have to shim them?
Shims
Have to ask. The wheelie at/near the end of your video. Are you working the clutch to get the front end up?
I honestly dont remember but probably.
Not much change at all? Do you find the bike to be severely lacking power?
It has decent power but the emissions stuff is definitely holding it back. The bike would be perfect if it were opened up a bit with a pipe.
