I somehow missed the hype train for this (i dont read many books, mostly fanfic these days) but learned of this through the trailer for the upcoming film adaptation! i was immediately hooked and upon learning it was based on a novel, i burned through an audiobook in 2 days and i just bought the collectors edition on amazon so i can have it on my shelf!! i rlly loved it, i super agree it felt like an immediate comfort read :)

Hi! I just finished the book and I TOTALLY agree with your thoughts on it! I also thought it was a tad bit overhyped and that’s why I also felt a bit disappointed towards the middle. I feel like they got together too early in the story and the middle chapters were kind of just fluff and fillers to develop the relationship which to me, felt a bit slow and like there wasn’t a plot, HOWEVER! the last 100-ish pages was seriously so so cute and makes my heart feel warm after reading it. But yes, it wasn’t realistic AT ALL! Also, I feel like the author could have squeezed in a bit more tension and actual disagreements for them to be considered “enemies”. But, I enjoyed this book too and probably will reread at some point in the future! Thanks for the review!
i really agree with a lot of your points. good review. i will say on your point about it being too easy- I agree but only for Alex. it’s a bit of a shame we never heard from Henry’s POV because his situation was incredibly difficult and stressful and unfair. But because the whole story takes place from Alex’s POV we don’t get to see that until the back end of the story. Alex is so intent on this just being a hookup, and having his bi crisis that he doesn’t consider Henry’s feelings or situation much in the first half of the book.
i loved it still tho these boys melted my heart a million times over. i’m a 21 year old gay dude which made this book feel more personal in a way. alex and henry i love you both so much❤️

I heard there was already a cut in pages and the original draft was longer so maybe some of the tension and challenges got lost because of that? Idk
I definitely needed this to take the next step and read it.

it's funny the movie just came out and I felt like the middle part od the movie was more engaging and the end got kinda slow but lovely movie and 3rd acts are hard to do when making a movie but I'm glad Amazon studios went ahead and made this amazing movie

I liked your points, however I feel differently. I am a political and history buff. I did like the quotes they gave each other from past queer people. Queer history has been hidden for a long time, basically forever. I live in Florida where I see it because destroyed viciously right now. I hope this will encourage people to look up history. At least be a little prepared for a debate. I also liked the political and press drama. To have to deal with complete lies spread about you. I also liked the fast moving they did with the relationship. The writer did not make it a will they are won’t they story, or just Alex trying to accept himself. It was more of them against the world. That is just me.

I am currently reading this book was looking forward to reading it but I don´t like it up to now (halfway)! I find Alex a spoiled prick. There is no romance to be found, too many pages white house and political related stuff (that I skimmed over, don´t care for it, same for the Texas stuff and the dying of the milk industry remark made me livid, there should not be a milk industry in the first place). Also I don´t like the hate him before and now I love him, that so many books use and is meant to be romantic. It encourages people to think that when one does not consent because they really don´t like you, they actually want you. And does Alex actually love him? Up to now I only see lust and wanting Henry when he desires and demands And yes very unrealistic in many places.
It is possible that I flip to a kinder view once I have finished it, but for now it is a struggle and it makes me angry.

I absolutely fell in love with this book I wanted to read it over and over again I read it 2 times already and I absolutely fell in love with this book the second time to it show’s that the second time is just as good as the first time
