  • Praeparatio=Preparation: To play Lt Longhorn in Before Dawn I decided to build a complete world, and life for the character. This process was a wonderful creative experience. The unusual situation was my age. I was 52 at the time. There were only 7 lieutenants in the Australian Army over 50. Most lieutenants were between 19 and 24 in WW1. I went to the Fremantle army museum on many occassions to obtain as much information as possible. From this I was able to craft a backstory that was historically correct. Then I had to find a personal and plausable reason for a 50 year old man, veteran of the Boer War, to re-enlist into the Australian Army. Some of that is told in this film.
