The polish of a japanese sword is such a beautifull process in itself. Thank you very much for sharing your work with us!!! May I ask you, how much soda do you put in your waterbucket?Has the amount of soda to be different on different stones? Whatever I do, my own made blades tend to rust during the polishing process very quickly. I mostly use the asahi stones from namikawa. Thank you and best regards from Germany

If the quality of the iron is poor, it will oxidize and rust.
The only way to prevent rusting when polishing is to mix a small amount of weak alkaline with water and neutralize it while pouring the liquid over it.
Even though it is weakly alkaline, it is still a chemical, so if you don't know what you're doing, ask someone who does for advice.

Try use Radiator Coolant, it's cheap and very effective
I've been using it for several month now, and no single rust during polishing/sharpening.
I even tested it for 24 hours and still no rust appears

I use Chu-nagura.
