What actually happened was it was just a strategic move. If a trainer/jockey combination decide to try to make all with a horse and go clear of the field, as one of the other jockeys what are you supposed to do? In my cases you're going to stay with the pack because most of the time the horse will weaken at some point and come back to them as it's expending it's energy too quickly. If you go off in pursuit you may well be slitting your own throat and your horse will weaken too. These horses were not 'allowed' to go clear and win it was just a strategy that sometimes worked and sometimes backfired.
You've got to love this commentators concept of distance. He tells us the horse is 15 lengths in front when it's more like 40 lengths. His next one though is approaching the home straight he tells us his lead is now 20 lengths when it's about 60 lengths. Amazing really

Did you ever see that 150/1 that did it a few months ago in ireland, led the whole way, the group catches up with it, you think its going to get swallowed but the jockey (second ride since 2015 lol) was merely giving it a breather and it ended up winning easily!

Always amuses me the "great ride" or "incredible run" titles. This is just a clear example of a horse being allowed to bowl along and the other jockeys just having no clue. It's a learning curve obviously but that's not a genius ride by any means.

Today at notts races delayed , yesterday an abandoned meeting ...Its struggling racing 4 and 5 horse races, fixing so obvious and more horses dying weekly....pull the plug on it as punters being screwed I'm afraid
It looks like this race was fixed. There was no pace, horse in front was galloping, and nobody went after him. It would be normal if the other jockeys started moving their horses sooner. Clear a fixed race in my opinion

It’s not measured in actual physical lenghts. Horse racing “lenghts” are actually a measure of time that’s changes with change in the ground

Many bookies cap winning distances at 25l. This is often why the commentators don’t say more than that.
