even though i'd already bought a PS1 in anticipation of FF7, i played this game for 15 minutes at my local used game store in summer of 1996 and bought a Saturn the next day. That summer I played 4 of my top 10-20 games of all time: Guardian Heroes, Legend of Oasis, Dragon Force & Three Dirty Dwarves.
I have this game still and I picked it up on xbla...this is a great game. This is why gaming is on life support...cause everything now is a shooter. I miss the days of thunderforce, dynomite heady, streets of rage, double dragon, vectorman, bug, golden axe, shinobi and so on. You dont get games like this anymore.
You keep mentioning Code of Princess, and then say Guardians Heroes is the "spiritual predecessor". What does that even mean? How could something be a spiritual predecessor to something that is made following in it's likeness? Where you err, is that you should have said Guardian Heroes was so influential that it caused the programmers of Code of Princess to emulate the excellent Guardian Heroes near completely. It doesn't work the other way around. Just because you only have come to know of the great Guardian Heroes now, because you were nothing more than a PSombie back in the day, doesn't allow you to repeatedly say that Guardian Heroes is a copy of the much later Code of Princess, because as a bad reviewer you're limited in your knowledge of games.
Guardian Heroes looks better than Code of Princess... how blind do you have to be not to see that! Guardian Heroes has a sick anime look complete with giant mechs shooting lasers at wizards, all Code of Princess has its that it's 3D... but it looks tacky, there's no style at all.
I played the hell out of this game when I had it on my Saturn, it's one of the most fun and enjoying games I ever played, replay value 100%, and not to mention the music, I still listen to it now ! Amazing
good game.. did you say good game.. do you realize how old this game is, more specifically when it came out... slap your self this game was awesome for its time and holds up well to today's standards... once again take a glove full of copper and steal and slap your self....
This game was the reason why I bought a Saturn, replaced the battery in said Saturn, haven't gotten rid of same Saturn after realizing that most games on it are utter crap too expensive to buy now, or better on PlayStation.
Up to four in the vs mode? I'm pretty sure I've seen way bigger matches than that. Of course, actually finding that many players online is a whole other story.
ArikGenerick the original Saturn version had ridiculous slowdown... Didn't stop me from playing it. Greatest Saturn game. Yes better than panzer dragoon zwei
@@TBtheking405216 Especially if you played versus mode, and let 6 giant lazer shooting 'things' (forgot what they were ..cyclopses or so?) shoot at eachother, it was very laggy..but most importantly , it was FUN
Code of Princess is not as good as Guardian Heroes imo. I also feel that Panzer Bandits has done a better job using its multi-plane and juggle mechanics as well
ill admit he is wrong when it comes to his views on this game.. but that's hitting below the belt.. over-all CGR does a great job of reviewing classics and moderns alike... take your racist comments else where !
Same reason why none of the other Treasure ports on 360 never hit PS3. Paid exclusivity. Granted, Steam now has the 360 version of Ikaruga, so maybe that's not a factor anymore.
Guardian Heroes - 1996
Code of Princess - 2012

Not panzer Dragoon?

Fantastic game, miserable review. When you get such a timeless gem like Guardian Heroes only Lord Carnage is worthy of this review
Yeah, I don't know what it is. It always seems like TJ has a lot of stuff to complain about in his reviews, even with fun games. I don't get it.
Code of Princess looks better? Is this Reviewer blind?
Reviews like this is why CGR Undertow doesn't exist.
Agreed
This review is utter Rubbish, don't match a Classic from close to 20 years ago with a recent release..

+SwankeyMonkey I never saw this phenomenon, he's like an INVERSE HIPSTER saying the old thing is copying the new one.
worst review ever.

LOVED this game on Sega Saturn back in the day!! Lots of action, great times! Genjuro (the ninja dude in the green outfit) was my favorite!
+Orbot I slayed with Genjuro. He was always my go to fighter.
Awesome game I still play occasionally. Horrible review, period.
good game.. did you say good game.. do you realize how old this game is, more specifically when it came out... slap your self
this game was awesome for its time and holds up well to today's standards...
once again take a glove full of copper and steal and slap your self....
good one quoting cheech marin in ghostbusters 2
I have played almost every game that Treasure has made
It looks pretty awesome for me, the style, the combos, the VS option, damn, how didn't I notice this game before?...
This game was the reason why I bought a Saturn, replaced the battery in said Saturn, haven't gotten rid of same Saturn after realizing that most games on it are utter crap too expensive to buy now, or better on PlayStation.
LOVE THIS & EVERY OTHER TREASURE GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED,AND THAT'S ALOT!
Up to four in the vs mode? I'm pretty sure I've seen way bigger matches than that. Of course, actually finding that many players online is a whole other story.
this game if fun if you enjoy 90's beat them ups, if not it might not be your cup of tea
Is code of princess on the xblA?
I want this game or my Saturn and when code of princess gets a pal release, I'm all over that shiz :-)
Ta ta ta tatata ( what theme is this ? )
Nice Altered Beast reference...
I wish this would come to the PS3
Coded princes?
this review is as bad as the star fox 2 review made by IGN
Code of Princess might look better but Guardian Heroes runs smoothly with no FPS problems which is a big deal for these kinds of games

Is it for PS3?
I just downloaded this
TJ is my favorite Undertow reviewer
Loved this game on the Saturn and bought it again on XBLA. A poor review in my opinion.

Terrible review.
i agree
The fuck is this not on PSN?

woot
I squeegee it all the time playa
chill out bro, it's just a guy's opinion. No one says you have to agree with him.
