Further notes.
The main motivation for this build was that I wanted a nice submarine model on the shelf.
A lot of this build was inspired by the work of Glenn Cauley,
gc-scalemodels....
And specifically a build by Karel Ton.

Oh my god. This is incredible... "some extras" - understatement of the decade. This is so impressive I'm actually flabbergasted at the skill that went into this.
I'm speechless. I have been working with u-boats for most of my life (I'm a military historian) but this is not a model, it's scaled down reality. Every detail of a type VIIc boat is correct.

This has to be the best U Boat model I have seen so far, it looks so damned real with all the little details built into it. It is a museum quality piece without a doubt.

I'm almost afraid to look at the hi-res images of the finished model because I'd feel like I was on the business end of those torpedo tubes!! This is the most realistic U-boat model I've ever seen! Dare I say, it looked more convincing than the models used in Das Boot! I love how you dremeled the dents and dings into the hull and replaced the torpedo ports in the bow with precision-cut sheet metal and blended it seamlessly into the plastic, but the wire railing was genius! The aging and distressing effects made it look like it had survived more than its share of depth charges!

An artist in 3D...he sees the final result before he has even laid paint to model... amazing and awesome work... glad I quit model building when I was younger... I would feel like a first year art student watching Michelangelo paint the dome in Rome....

Tristan, I simply can't imagine modelling can possibly get any better than this. You need to put everyone out of their misery and offer some insights on how you have achieved such a magnificent piece of work.
Breathtaking work.....I have just started this kit, the platinum addition, and so far I have spent 11 hours just working the hull textures and Linder holes and only halfway through! This is giving me so much encouragement, mine won’t have the internal detail you have added (thank god!) but your progress photos are invaluable for reference and your weathering videos are absolutely outstanding. So simple, but so effective...thank you...

That's it. I don't have to watch any other U-boat videos. I'm in the painting stage of my type VII C. I had opened three of the forward torpedo doors, I used rolled paper for torpedo tubes. Drilled out the aft torpedo tube. Drilled the holes around the forward bow diving planes that are for the sound detector. That's as custom as I could go on my model. Yours is an heirloom.
From now on every time I see a model sub, or even a real one, for that matter, my reply will always be "yeah, but it's not as good as Tristan Reidford's one". Spectacular!!!

You are obviously a master craftsman in several techniques and and methodologies. If you could please provide longer videos with greater depth of explanation, it would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve watched a lot of sub builds on UA-cam. This is by far the best weathering job I have ever seen for a German ww2 sub. Amazing color selection, and application of streaks and rust. Fantastic job! Also I LOVED the port and starboard bow photographs. The lighting you used was perfect. I can’t wait for more vids.
