Hey :) I'm a senior at AUS. I study a double major in literature and journalism. Sure many of us complain about a lot of work, but it's up to the students how many courses they decide to take per term. We have amazing extracurricular activities. I've been the vice president of our student paper, editor in chief of our literary publication and president the mass communication club. AUS has events everyday. Believe it or not: I still have time to hang out with friends. Welcome on board :)
I joined AUS in Fall 2004, I met Mr. Tariq Monther who appeared on this video in Student Center and so in dorms we were in GH. Unfortunately, I've left the university in 2007 to Jordan, due to my own reasons, but if the time goes back for sure I will choose AUS and no where else.
For continuing your education in Canada or US more important than your university is your CGPA and the papers you have and in general you activities in university. that being said, AUS is recognized by all other universities, but again GPA above 3.5 is a must.
Continue: I left after I had 2 semesters of final exam time conflicts. There were no appeals, no rescheduling, no course drop, and the professors and admins were not helpful, so I left with 30+ credits and a GPA under 2.0. Got a job, enrolled with Open University in Bahrain. Got the best education of my life. A degree in AOU costs less than a semester in AUS. AOU ranks 3rd in Bahrain and the main OU in UK ranks with the top 10. Got finals conflicts in AOU, they automatically rescheduled for me.
Hi, I’ve seen your comments regarding this uni, and I’d like to ask you some questions if you don’t mind answering. Since my Arabic is still really bad, and so I’ll have to use English to relate with people, do you think it’ll be very difficult for me to communicate there? Where are you from? How did Arabs treat you generally speaking? Would you share more specific details about your experience? What about social life? Opened ppl? I’ll be thankful to get some feedback from you on this.
Good to see so many negative comments to back me up, and I'll add my own. Attended between 2000 to 2002 and already had a community college diploma thinking I can transfer my 60 hours. Nothing transferred! Saw tons of Arabs running away from the aftermath of September 11th from the US with a 3.0+ GPA and cursing how their 100+ year old universities in top 100 rankings are "not recognized" by AUS. So started from scratch, got lousy GPAs, and left after a semester or two!
well yeah in UAE and also other GCC countries it has a high value. And about the internship, there is an office in AUS dedicated to this and they are doing a good job in this, but at the end of the day you have to be active and follow up and have connections. There also an anualy Career fair which AUS holds which supposedly is for finding jobs and internships, but I have never heard anyone find smth in them. The companies show no interest for an Intern.
guys I am graduated from AUS and if I want to be honest, and share my experience i have to say it is a good university, but it is kinda overrated. Study wise and its reputation are good. but one of its biggest problems is its atmosphere. it is really dead and depressing and student absolutely have no voice on whats happening in university. If your are planing to enroll, have second thoughts for dorms because they are super boring and dead. Anyways its the best choice in UAE in my point of view.
I am joining this university next year but after reading those comments about how social life sucks there I'm worried about it . can any current student tell me some details about life there , cause I m from egypt and will leave everything and go to aus for the education but i dont wanna live a geek life still .. any help would be appreciated
The problem with AUS is it kills your creativity. Now I am studying at McGill and I can see the huge gap between a good and mediocre University. AUS has great facilities but again it feels like high school, it does not give you the feeling of academic life.
Thanks.. another ques if you dont mind answering... Is AUS recognized in USA and Canada.. If i am planning to do my masters from USA or Canada, after bach from AUS, is there a good chance i would be accepted?
Which do you think is better .. AUS , or the SU (Shargah uni) , im ganna sign up for the uni's next year and i really need help ! Please give me advice based on experience and not only if you hate the uni or not. Help anyone?
this university is literally a waste of money costs 30000$ to 35000$ each year (including housing fees) with a ranking of 3000 globally. i used to be an AUS student and then i transferred to University of Illinois in the united states which costs 35000 including housing and two tickets back home a year ,also it ranks number 40 globally.. btw they accepted only 3 crd hrs from the AUS "arabic heritage course" i payed all that fuckin money for 3 crd hrs lol
the begining of the video is a joke .. its in the heart of sharjah ??? XD its in industrial area's 15,17 full of asian labours and workshops on the way to oman. and well making it feel friendly .. my friend freakin got kicked out for a semester from the university cuz hur dad tried to make hur a birthday party in the dorms .
huh this AUS is mangaed by the Students....some day they are gonna conquer the whole if this university...:P and by the way i wanna visit this university...:/, i dont know when is there working hours and when is there visiting hours...:/
LOOOL they found one American geek who has probably never left dc to tell people how amazing glorified racism (AUS Global day) is and how stingy spending on facilities and resources that are not strictly for faculty makes a university great!
Arab Katib please i hope you dont consider yourself a muslim cause an ideal muslim wont be talking the way you talk. generalising and talking bad about the Lebanese? sir where do you come from? you need to respect your standards boy. not to mention the fact of course someone as arrogant and ignorant and you wouldn't like such a high standard university cause its beyond your capabilities. i am not claiming its the best out there but its not as bad as you state it is , and neither are the Lebanese. i completely agree there are bad people from Lebanon but bad and good is everywhere so please if you have nothing nice to say then dont say it at all , and yes i am a Lebanese myself .
diala Saab I don't believe I wrote that crap up there (deleted/edited).. I think I was having an anger strike.. (happens often). I wrote a longer comment just now, but I will summarize it in the following My apologies, and, due to recent events, I am re-evaluating my views, there are really good people in Lebanon.
Arab Katib well then my apologies too for whatever i said that might have been offensive . i do understand when in moment of anger people tend to confiscate what they feel or think in offensive ways but neither here nor there , thank you i appreciate your apology.
oh you telling me now ? already there lol , and its not a hell hole lol , you are making it look too much , its not that bad till now , and you say social life sucks ? that depends on your social skills and your own personality , how can the uni make you a social life ? get you a gf maybe ? :D
soooo over rated , i transfered , its not wat u expect , all my group left by the end of the 2nd yr XD.. nothing is easy , all those facilities wont help u.. its ur patience and ur brain only--------------good luk
