    Wow, we're excited to bring this song to you! Back in the summer of this year a member of the greater Woodrow family informed me that Brendan and Fergus Gleeson played a song on Irish television with a Woodrow! At first I thought he had composed the tune around the poem 'A Pint Of Plain Is Your Only Man' by Brian O'Nolan (pen name Flann O'Brien) but he later informed me the tune was by musician Pat Goode. I'll throw the URL to their performance, as well as Pat Goode's, below. A quick UA-cam search will also find it. I'll be throwing up some sheet music on our website as well (link in bio)!
    NOTES:
    The song is fairly simple but there is a lot of picking between the high and middle strings so if you're not used to picking then go slow and be sure to watch your pick. I brace the side of my hand or finger on the body of the instrument when picking so I can measure distance without looking.
    Tuning: G,D,G (D,A,D equivalent)
    M = middle string
    B = bass/bottom string
    Chorus
    The chorus walks the middle string down and up from the third fret while alternating with the high string/s. Strum the strings open every so often at the beginning end of the phrases when the melody moves to an open position for added harmony.
    Verse
    During the first phrase of the verse the melody moves to the 1st fret of the high string where I'll play the A shape. Since the melody rests on that note for a while the full chord sounds more satisfying than just the individual melody. (The A shape in this case is giving us the D chord since we're tuned to G not D)

    I've been learning this version of the song/poem now on my Ukelele, I'm hoping someday to get onto the mandolin or maybe one of your Dulcimers!

    That sounded just like Brendon’s rendition. I’ve been singing that all day in my head. I’m thinking of making it my session song. It’s a very satisfying song, I was reading the poem a singing it as well. Surprisingly there’s not that many people singing it.
