Light struck from the lemon tree What if I'd never seen hysterical light from Eugene? Lemon yogurt, remember I pulled at your shirt I dropped the ashtray on the floor I just wanted to be near you Emerald Park, wonders never cease The man who taught me to swim, he couldn't quite say my first name Like a Father he led community water on my head And he called me "Subaru" And now I want to be near you Since I was old enough to speak I've said it with alarm Some part of me was lost in your sleeve Where you hid your cigarettes No I'll never forget I just want to be near you Still I pray to what I cannot see In the sprinkler I mark the evidence known from the start From the bed near your death, and all the machines that made a mess Far away the falcon flew Now I want to be near you What's left is only bittersweet For the rest of my life, admitting the best is behind me Now I'm drunk and afraid, wishing the world would go away What's the point of singing songs If they'll never even hear you?
I am certainly a Sufjan fan.....but this song needed you to sing it. That was Beautiful guitar work and absolutely wonderful singing. I loved it. The video had the nice city scene in back , perfect touch. Thank you !
Really good but the one thing that should probably stay with any rendition of this song is the abrupt end with that last verse. "What's the point of singing songs if they'll never even hear you"? The lyric itself seems to be proposing the real-time realization that it's all meaningless. That constant struggle with our own minds when in grief, sadness, depression, etc when we wildly fling our emotions about and what makes sense one second no longer makes sense the very next. What pleases us or alleviates pain one moment no longer does the very next. It just strikes me as the perfect place to end it for that very sense of anguish. Then again that's just my view of it and this was still very beautiful! What do I know? Thanks for posting this.
Light struck from the lemon tree
What if I'd never seen hysterical light from Eugene?
Lemon yogurt, remember I pulled at your shirt
I dropped the ashtray on the floor
I just wanted to be near you
Emerald Park, wonders never cease
The man who taught me to swim, he couldn't quite say my first name
Like a Father he led community water on my head
And he called me "Subaru"
And now I want to be near you
Since I was old enough to speak I've said it with alarm
Some part of me was lost in your sleeve
Where you hid your cigarettes
No I'll never forget
I just want to be near you
Still I pray to what I cannot see
In the sprinkler I mark the evidence known from the start
From the bed near your death, and all the machines that made a mess
Far away the falcon flew
Now I want to be near you
What's left is only bittersweet
For the rest of my life, admitting the best is behind me
Now I'm drunk and afraid, wishing the world would go away
What's the point of singing songs
If they'll never even hear you?
Wonderful cover. Serious kudos to you for nailing the fingerstyle and chord voicings to a tee.
One of the best covers I've heard of this song. Great job!
Noah Cookingham this is actually better than the origins song guy
@@noa6883 Sufjan Stevens also plays this song with a capo...
Some of Sufjan's spirit infused into you, well done
Not to forget your own emotions
Good one indeed.
And whatever you got in the microwave, is ready XD
😂
