They ended up taking a physical horn from the retired M.V. Hyak to use for the Kraken goal horn. It was an opportunity that was few and far between, due to the vessel being retired at the same time they were building the arena. I think they made a good choice personally. The Suquamish is the newest ferry in the system, and the Tacoma, as other people have pointed out would be a good choice, is still middle-aged. So, I doubt they would’ve used the horn from either of those.
Hi, I'm looking for the following retired WSF ferry whistle sounds: Rhododendron, Olympic (II), Nisqually, Klahanie & Chetzemoka (I). These boats served the Mukilteo-Clinton and Edmonds-Kingston runs in the mid-1960s. My model train layout runs through both towns and I'd like to honor these old girls with recordings of their whistle signals sounding periodically. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who know where I could obtain these sounds. Thanks in advance.
That’s so cool! I would check Evergreenfleet.com- he has some whistle recordings of some of the retired boats. Rhododendron’s whistle might be in some UA-cam videos too
As I recall, from hearing these years ago, the Steel Electrics (before the refurbishments done in the 1980s) had horns similar to the M/V Hiyu (middle C tone).
Honestly I like the decision to use the horn from the Hyak for the Kraken goal horn. It’s retired, so the physical horn was available to reuse: not only a good idea for a venue that strives to be environmentally friendly, (they also reused an air compressor from the construction of the arena to power the horn) but the Hyak was one of the most famous old boats in the fleet because it was the very first of the “super” boats which were giant for their time, and through fate, remained untouched by renovations until its retirement.
It was originally going to be a recording of the Tacoma’s horn, but they had an opportunity to get a physical horn off the retired M.V. Hyak. 0:48 is the true goal horn of the Kraken.

There was only two good real sounding Washington State Ferry horns the San Mateo and the Shasta steam horns what a majestic song these horns are irritating
It’s actually 0:48. They took the horns off the Hyak after it was retired, and one is now in the rafters at Climate Pledge Arena. (Pointed up at the ceiling to reduce loudness, of course.) It’s running off one of the air compressors that was used to construct the new arena bowl.
*Seattle Kraken have started a watch party*
MV Tacoma ferry horn should be the goal horn for the new Seattle NHL team! 🏒🚨
The teaser video today 👀
@@ImTotallyNotABanana nailed it! LOL
It is
Agreed. With Alestorm - No Grave But The Sea as the song
nuu Samish should be or the Chimacum!
God bless the Hyak, forever in our hearts
Hyak currently being used at CPA
And you still have many more chances to hear the Hyak's horn.
Some of them I know well. Others are on routes I have rarely taken. I loved seeing and hearing them all.
Some of these ferries do the 1 long 2 short blast, like the Great Lakes Freighters.
From what I recall, the one long, two shorts is Morse for "D", for "docking".
you got it!@@craigmclean8260
That Tokitae and Chimacum horn is STUNNING!! GIVES ME THE CHILLS!
Gotta love our ferries. 💞💞
Living near Mukilteo beach during this time of year I hear these all morning
My favorite fairy is Walla Walla
Can't believe nobody has suggested the MV Suquamish as the potential Kraken goal horn. That would make the arena go nuts

Mv Hyak’s horn is the goal horn for the Kraken. Long live Hyak.

Thanks for your comment! I found the Rhododendron recorded on its last trip out of the fleet, so I'll adopt the Hiyu's whistle as well.
Yes! The video we have all been waiting for
Mv toka tie
The Jumbo, Jumbo II, and Olympic ferries all have similar horns, not sure if they are double or triple ❤⛴⛴❤
I think they're all two chimes at a fifth interval...
...except the Puyallup, which is two chimes an octave apart.
Awesome video Spencer love it 👏
I do wish the Seattle Kraken use MV Tacoma’s horn. That would be Awesome.
MV Hyuk 😕

Can I use some of your video sound effects for a stop motion video I am making. I'll give you credit
M/V Wenatchee is the most familiar horn to me since its always near Mukilteo
It's the Tokitae and Suquamish at Mukilteo-Clinton, The Wenatchee is at Seattle Bainbridge, the do have similar Kahlenberg horns though
Imagine this for the Seattle hockey team’s goal horn

Could anyone identify the model of the horn on the MV Tacoma?
Which ferry has the loudest horn? Which ferries have earsplitting horns that if you stood 300ft or even 500ft away, it would still hurt your ears?
I'd say the loudest are probably the Jumbos
@@elwhaontherocks9206 Are the jumbo mark II's as well as the Olympic Class ferry just as loud as the Jumbos give they have the same horn? Can you explain?
So far every ferry where im around 400 feet away the horn is not bad sure its startling but not that loud for me
Prob Kittasis
@@boredalmonds4363 Why would the Kittas be the loudest? louder than the Jumbo's or the Olympic Class ferry Ferries?
Why did the Kittitas remind me of the alarm clock spongebob squarepants has

Did they retune the Wally no 2 end
Not sure. I believe that recording was of the number 2 end about a month ago if that helps.
