My nephew lives in Southport. He was on the train going home on the day of the riot. There was a group of young men on the train talking about Tommy Robinson. They were not from the area as they thought Southport was the stop after Formby (it’s not and even people further afield would know that so they must have come quite a distance)

I remember her on Newsnight I think it was claiming she spoke for Hull, but she was actually from and then living in a small market town half way between Hull and York, in David Davies' constituency. She also claimed to be a businesswoman, but ghe only business she had as a former 'Apprentice' candidate was promoting herself as a 'media personality'. Very little detail of these other events she referred to and claims of differences in policing. If the 'white working class' having something to complain about it's the growth in inequality over the last 14 years and the erosion of public services, but the billionaire behind GBNews wants to push a divisive narrative.
Her "point" is so off. I would concede that there was a difference in how the various incidents were responded to, but it is for obvious reasons, none of which is classism/white racism. It is because English nationalist violence is widespread, perennial, and actively and violently confrontational. In these respects it is not similar to the flashpoint violence in Leeds, nor to peaceful protest movements with large support. The government doesn't need to announce plans for a new national strategy on a one-off riot in Leeds. It DOES need a national strategy on far right violence, since it is a long-term national issue. The government doesn't need to let police use more force dealing with peaceful protests. The police DOES need those powers when dealing with people who are specifically looking to do damage and intimidate the subjects of their ire (non-white people, to be clear).
So these are not 'working' class - these are benefits scroungers and unemployed work-shy people who take place in 'gatherings' when the rest of us are in our working week.

I am so frustrated by the riots. I'm in my 60s, I've got memories galore of London, where I've shared a moment with an immigrant. Laughed together, shared a worry, talked in queues, learned to cook their food, learning how to put on a sari when I was 11 with an Indian friend with her mum and sisters, when my fence blew down in a storm, it was the son of immigrants from barbados who came to help. We are free to protest we aren't free to be violent. So take race out of it. It's not "the second a white anything". It's the second it turns violent, the police step in. Shouting isn't violence, waving a flag for Palestine isn't violence. Turning over cars and burning buses and throwing bricks is violence. And regardless of race, arrests will be made. 🤷♂ And this I applaud! 👏👏 Personally I'd be way harsher. I'd make sure the individuals were banned from gatherings for life. Very little detail of these other events she referred to and claims of differences in policing.
If the 'white working class' having something to complain about it's the growth in inequality over the last 14 years and the erosion of public services, but the billionaire behind GBNews wants to push a divisive narrative.

I would concede that there was a difference in how the various incidents were responded to, but it is for obvious reasons, none of which is classism/white racism. It is because English nationalist violence is widespread, perennial, and actively and violently confrontational. In these respects it is not similar to the flashpoint violence in Leeds, nor to peaceful protest movements with large support.
The government doesn't need to announce plans for a new national strategy on a one-off riot in Leeds. It DOES need a national strategy on far right violence, since it is a long-term national issue.
The government doesn't need to let police use more force dealing with peaceful protests. The police DOES need those powers when dealing with people who are specifically looking to do damage and intimidate the subjects of their ire (non-white people, to be clear).

Does she scribble for the Torygraph, as some of the articles in my news feed from them appear to be blaming Labour for the past 14 years or Tory mismanagement AND the fact German pensioners are having to continue working past retirement to get a living wage (despite it being much higher than the UK pension) which labour have effectively scrapped by taxing all the pensioners. I am so frustrated by the riots. I'm in my 60s, I've got memories galore of London, where I've shared a moment with an immigrant. Laughed together, shared a worry, talked in queues, learned to cook their food, learning how to put on a sari when I was 11 with an Indian friend with her mum and sisters, when my fence blew down in a storm, it was the son of immigrants from barbados who came to help. The black British guy who got me home during that last snow storm we had...you get the picture. Have these people forgotten those moments? The nurses that cared for them, the doctors they see? What's going on here?
