Ah that’s really nice, makes me homesick!! Still nearly time for the annual pilgrimage to the homeland for me and my lad from the far north and central Scotland for the diesel gala.
You would think the introduction of DMU/Bubblecar services in the 60's would have saved many of the rural lines and branches. However, locally to us the connections to main line services were deliberately rigged so that the timings just did not connect.
Reply to "boblovell 5789". Thats right, these sort of trains would have saved many lines, had the will been there. However, the plan was to destroy as much as possible. The big cull came with Beeching, but its not so much him that should carry the blame, take a look at who was transport minister from 1959-1964, check out his real agenda, and just out of interest, check out what became of him.
