I love that you understood what she was doing here. It’s 100% a throwback vibe. Some don’t and think it’s just a cringey childish song but I absolutely love it. It’s about her relationship with Travis Kelce and it’s wonderfully adorable.
Absolutely! This woman is head over heels and loving life. It’s such a literal song. You can parse so much of this song coming straight from their relationship as time moved forward. When Travis said that Taylor wrote a couple of song for them, I’m presuming he spoke of this one and The Alchemy. There could be 2 others they are keeping for themselves. I’m sure there will be more, but these are lovely. So High School is my absolute favorite on TTPD! Makes me smile every time I hear it!!
If you want to understand "in the blink of a crinkling eye" then search Travis Kelce smiling. He's an eye smiler. The song is about how he brought her back to embracing the magical high school love feeling she was renowned for singing about in her youth. Many think it's cheesy, but given the context of her early relationships in her teens being with men who were much older, and didn't treat her well. While the lyrics can be lurid, it's a very pure song. To contrast it, in 2022, she released "Would've, Could've, Should've" as a bonus track for midnights which draws on her feelings about one of those relationships, where she laments her choices and calls out "give me back my girlhood, it was mine first".
It’s about her boyfriend Travis Kelce (Tight End for the Kansas City Chiefs). 🥰 If you look at the screen during the Twinkling Lights lyrics the TS and TK are light pink 🥰 He did an interview years ago (before they’d ever met) and was asked the “Marry/kiss/kill” question and he picked Taylor for kiss!! It’s so cute. I also got 90s vibes, very Sixpence None the Richer!!
My first time hearing this song right along with you. I'm 68 and chose to explore her music through out of genre reactors. Mainly rap and metal fans. But music her videos I also include professional video editors and visual effects artists. A few days ago I watched the a father/son reaction to the "Out of the Woods" music video. Both are professional visual effects artists. They both gushed about the visual effects and editing. I was never a big Carly Simon fan back in the day but there were songs I enjoyed. Not sure why but Carly Simon really came to mind listening to Out ofthe Woods. I've had the the song stuck in my head since. I love it, the beat, the backing vocals, and the way it builds. The music video itself visually is amazing. Give it watch if the urge hits, I don't think you'll be disappointed. There's plenty of lyric drops in this song to know it's about Travis Kelce. The throwback vibe combined with the lyrics basically saying he has her feeling like a giddy school girl really works. It's pleasant to listen to. I've said it several times, listening to Swift songs is like listening to a master class in songwriting. I honestly get her wild popularity. What I don't understand is the blind hate she gets online. I suppose toddlers just gotta toddle.
hey! I loved this comment, I watch a lot of reactors and I’d like to recommend “Put You On” they’re also a father/son duo and they do a lot of different genres and have done a lot of Taylor!
I love toddlers gotta toddle! 😆 Funny you should mention Carly Simon, as on her 1989 tour, Taylor dueted with her on You're so Vain! It's on Taylor's You Tube.
@@Jerrica8123 Thanks for the recommendation I'll check them out. I have mainly stuck with male reactors for Swift because of all the social media comments saying her fans are all 12/13 year old girls. Which I didn't actually believe anyway. I've watched four adult men wiping away tears over Ronin. The song is beautiful, I have trouble watching that video myself as I lost my daughter 8 years ago. She was an adult with three children but it was still a massive blow.
this is one of the songs i didn't really like when i first heard it but the more i listened the more it clicked for me. the throwback highschool vibe is IMPECCABLE, and also it makes me think of how in her song 'So Long London" she says "i'm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free" (talking about her 6 year relationship with Joe) and now with Travis it's like he makes her feel like she has that youth back. loved your reaction!!
Yeah, I definitely think she traded up. Obviously, Joe wasn’t her forever guy and they had problems, so I don’t want to dunk on him. Don’t think he was a bad guy as much as wrong guy and I get the feeling he really wanted her to live a small compartmentalization life and she’s Taylor freaking Swift. Now, she has a happy, strong, confident man who supports her in all her endeavors. It’ll be interesting to see if he goes another 2 seasons, but if Taylor isn’t all over the world, that might be easier to commit too. He wants another ring.
@@DeathMetalDadReacts As you've noticed, fans love to speculate about who her songs are about and some are well, fanatical in their beliefs. She wanted to be explicit that this was about Travis, given there were several relationships given nods on the album and that given she started dating him publicly Sept 23 and released the Album Apr this year, most expected he wouldn't have made the album in his "rookie season"!
This is such a fan favourite from the tortuted poets department!!! So many of the lyrics in this song directly reference things the public already knows about her current boyfriend Travis Kelce, which really adds to how sweet the song is. "Get my car door, isnt that sweet, then pull me into the backseat" is a reference to some of the early paparazzi photos of Taylor and Travis where he gets the car door for her "You know how to ball" this obviously references Travis being a football player, which may have been a major inspiration for the concrnt of 'so high school' because dating a popular football player is such an american high school cliche. The stadium light that can be seen in the lyric video also seems to be a reference to the football games Taylor has attended. "Are you gonna marry kiss or kill me" Im sure plenty of people have mentioned this now, but this is a reference to an old interview clip of Travis in which he is asked to 'marry, kiss, or kill' three popstars, with one being Taylor who he chose to kiss. "You know what you wanted and boy you got her" really brings attention to the way their relationship started, with Travis saying on his podcast that he had attended an eras tour show and unfortunately didnt get a chance to give Taylor his number. Supposedly, Taylor saw this clip (she said in an interview she thought the podcast shoutout was "metal as hell") and it made her decide to get in touch with Travis. For people who have aware of Taylor and Travis' relationship for a while, the title of this song alone is a direct tie in. Within weeks of them being seen together, the high school energy was widely spoken about because there is something so young and classic about their relationship that just makes it feel like the popular girl in school has finally gotten with the hot boy on the football team. So high school is such an early 2000s throwback energy, and the way it captures the excitement of a new relationship will definitely have people associating it with their crushes for years to come. Glad you enjoyed!!
Just wanted to say, that moment you were talking about "shit happens" and "you're doing a good job" made me tear up a bit. i really needed to hear that today! Your videos always make my day better, dude!
Happy late fathers day to our death metal dad!! We knew you would like this song because it is a throwback sounding one for sure and we knew you would appreciate the nostalgia:) glad you did!!
I like the Cranberries vibe. Good way to put it. The song is dedicated to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The you know ball is that he is a football player for Kansas City Chiefs and then she is a songwriter poet - areostole. Crinkling eye is he is a fun loving guy who loves to joke and laugh and so his eyes are crinkly at times from laughing all the time. Good humored guy. The High school is because so many see their romance as like High School with the football hero dating the beautiful popular girl. She's also very heads over heels for the guy just like a love sick teenager. The song is very sexy and sweet. A lot is implied. Loved your reaction to certain passages in the song.
Jumbled thoughts - Taylor’s boyfriend has laugh lines that appear when he smiles, so “crinkling eye.” The sound is a 2000s throwback to when Taylor would have been in high school. “Bittersweet 16 suddenly” is a play on Sweet 16 and is both bitter for Taylor because she’s 34 and never had it before and sweet because she finally has it now. “Are you gonna marry, kiss, or kill me? I’m betting on all three for us two.” - as you noted, this is a horny song, and I think Taylor is using “kill” as a stand-in for something else here…what the French call the little death. If you know, you know. 😉
My very first thought hearing the song was "kill me" as in "die with me" like they'll be together for the rest of their lives, but honestly given the horny vibes I think the "little death" thing is probably the intent lmao.

Love you DMD. Needed the affirmation at the beginning, told my husband of almost 10 years last night that we're on a break last night. and Tay likes to get busy. And does NOT apologize for it. Love the Cranberries comparison. Deloris is so amazing. I bawl almost every time I here Zombie.
Dude, I know I told you already but I just so love that juxtaposition you do at the start with the metal music at the “Taylor Swift” chyron. Never stop doing that 🤣👏♥️💪 Also, she perfectly captured that young love feeling of excitement, that kinda overwhelming and intoxicating attraction of a new budding relationship with someone you have this an inexplicably instant and natural chemistry with. Such a strong pull that makes everything and everyone else disappear when you look at them or are just in their presence. It makes you feel like a kid again, in the best way possible ♥️

It sneaks up on you but this is probably the horniest song she has ever made lmao.
