I LOVE this hostel! It's in a good neighbourhood, literally a block away from subway. and with it, it takes less than 15 minutes to get to downtown Manhattan. Central Park is two block away, or so ... Not to mention the numerous daily activities that make it easy to meet with fellow travellers. I'm 36yo now, and while I am super comfy in my skin&age, being a regular guest at this hostel, annually, reminds me that I am getting older. :) It almost feels a bit inappropriate for me to stay there at my age, with my earnings ... But during every stay so far I have always met one quality individual I have stayed in touch with ever since. That's a treasure that never happens at hotels, or so rarely.
I've gone cross-country three times, twice by Amtrak. Stayed at Hosteling International in Chicago, Flagstaff, Santa Monica, Monterey. Also been to Boston and Hyannis ones, too. Never disappointed. And I was in my 60s. Just like you, I met wonderful young people who invited me to hang out with them, wanted to be Facebook friends, etc. Never been to NY one and am looking forward to it this Fall. (I'm now 77--I have Nomad in me.😄)
Thank you so much for this! I'll be staying here on a solo trip next month, and it's my first ever hostel experience, so I've been a bit anxious wondering what it'll look and feel like. This video puts me at such ease. I feel like I already know my way around. :)
I hope to be going there this Fall 2024. I have only stayed at Hosteling International hostels and they are great! Thanks for that wonderful preview of what I'll see.😊
I’ll be visiting the hostel for 1 week in December and all the major travel destinations are pretty close to this hostel. So, pretty stoked about my first trip to US.
This was the very first place where I stayed the very first time I had ever been to New York in my life, which was in 2000. I still absolutely love this hostel. Even if I am almost 50 now and don't have energy to stay in bunkrooms any more, I will still love to stay in this hostel whenever I visit New York.
Thanks for your video, will be staying here this summer. Just wondering if a big luggage can fit the locker inside the room? Or is it safe to leave a big luggage beside the bed?
Maybe not a big suitcase, but I would say it's safe to leave it in the room. I have never had something stolen but put all your valuables in the locker and lock it 😊
Hi where do you buy a groceries so you could cook and are there pots I could use? is drinking water free and safe to drink? Thank you for this informative video.
Since hearing about this place over the weekend, I have been wondering about its historical origins. Was it once part of some Catholic religious institution, an orphans' asylum perhaps, or seminary housing?
At firt really thank u soo much....for this video..it helped... can u please tell me, is the food of cafetaria is free?..also do u need to pay, to use the washing machine?
The food in the “cafeteria” is not free, go to 11.45 to see some of the prices 😊 and yes I do mention the washer and dryer prices at 7.11 hope that helps
can i ask if u just pay the booking at the hostel desk on arrival in cash they will keep asking u for a credit card ? in 1999 last time i stayed they never asked me for any at all thaks
It was pretty easy, the subway makes it very easy (but pay attention which side and direction you go towards), there is a busway one block away on 103 st, from the hostel to far down on broadway it takes about 23 min, pretty fast if you ask me 😊 hope that helps!
I’m planning my next trip to nyc just now. I’m just back from nyc 2 weeks ago. I was there on a solo but was in a high end hotel. I didn’t really meet people and I think my hotel choice held me back in that sense. I’d never done a solo before. Would this be good option to meet folk do you think ?
Yes I would say so, I would say its safer than most hostels due to the card access and the two door access first to the lobby than to the actual hostel (you need a room card for this, to be able to get in) 😊 most hostels only have one closed door where you would need access!
Thanks. I stayed there in June for 15 days. Only bad point is that people steal food in the kitchen, so do not leave your food there, apart from that, everything was perfect
@@RafaelSantos-oi7rb: When I was traveling cross-country years ago, I'd leave extra fruit, desserts on table with a sign: "FREE " It was gone in 5 minutes!😂
Sharing a room with 3 strangers who come from four corners of the world is in itself a discovery. Hopefully the roommates will be respectable

So there is an age limit? No oldies allowed?

Who are you attempting to meet?
@@MONEYAINTATHANG100 just other solo traveler’s. I know like I’ve done in about 20 other countries
Hostels are terrific places to meet people. Most people who stay at Hostels are similar personality and open to others.
Rundown window, the bunk beds look like a prison. Wonder how much they’re paying.
Is there air conditioner?
Thanks
Daily rates?
How to get there frim JFK by public transportaion
Good question.
Is it safe and good for long stays? Like 15-30 days?
Yes I would say so, I would say its safer than most hostels due to the card access and the two door access first to the lobby than to the actual hostel (you need a room card for this, to be able to get in) 😊 most hostels only have one closed door where you would need access!
Yes, but every hostel has a maximum stay policy. And they are strict about it.
This one has a 21 days maximum stay per calendar year I believe.
Thanks. I stayed there in June for 15 days.
Only bad point is that people steal food in the kitchen, so do not leave your food there, apart from that, everything was perfect

Have you ever used the Hostelworld app is it legit?
