I love an in-roof slate system too, though if you go with the SolaSkirt route on slate, it looks very good in my opinion. We uploaded one over the summer called "Spirit Energy - JA Solar 440W All-Black Panels + SolaSkirt + On-Roof Slate" if you're interested. It ended up being a fair bit cheaper than an in-roof system, as the labour cost was saved over not having to spend time pulling up the tiles already in place.
Hi, not for internal runs, and the DC cables are well shielded by the panels and tiles. When running the DC externally, like we did down the side of the house for this project, we do use conduits as you say. -Tok
Preferred the look of "in roof" system myself as I have a slate roof which would not be easy to work with. All nailed on and very very brittle.

Do the DC cables not need protection (e.g. flexible conduit) when going between the felt overlaps ?
