I never knew this 2 cards trick to adjust the clutch lever free play. In my FZi,I used a ruler to measure the slack, I had a video for that. Thanks for this, I learned something new today.
i just watched at least 10 different videos on clutch adjustment and you're the only one to actually explain the why behind all the adjustments especially the lower part, most videos just tell you what to do and learn nothing..
My Z1000R started stalling when I stop at a red light even though i'm holding the clutch but it doesn't when I grab it closer than usual which is uncomfortable. I tried this and it worked like a charm! Thanks a lot!
I have an issue with a bike I just bought. I am a new rider is it supposed to stall out when I hold the clutch and I am in first gear? It does it alot when I am in traffic and I am not sure why it keeps stalling out. I can only do a stop and go like 2 maybe 3 times before it stalls out. Only way for it not too is to use the throttle when I am still holding the throttle. When I do this tho the throttle acts up and starts to jerk. I need help fixing this. I am a new rider for it is hard to understand if it is suppose to be doing this but I am almost positive it's not because it wasn't doing this before.
So if you back the locking nut nearest the engine - further up the cable - away from end of cable - and then lock it off then the clutch grab point is closer to the handle bar ?
I put some Chinese unbreakable levers on a Crf250l and today when adjusting free play by doing the 2 credit card method the clutch was way too loose while driving. To get the fiction to a normal point means that I have no free play. This I assume is still bad. File off some of the lever to gain some free play?
Should not start to push the clutch rod until you are at end of free play. You may need to adjust the lower part of the cable and the push rod adjustment (usually in line with centre of your clutch basket)
i cannot revmatch to slow down the bike if i keep this little freeplay sinch the clutch is far out. i like my clutch at more at like 40-50% of release, but doing that the freeplay increases drastically and the clutch lever feels loose. Any recommendation on how to deal with this issue?
Some clutches are easier than others to rev match with. Some have the engagement zone really close to one side vs the other. You still need a little slack either way.
I'm getting a hang up on my XSR900. clutch comes out but lever doesnt come back all the way. I've lubed the cable but thinking there might be a brake in the cable. thoughts?
Great video thanks for the information. I have a question, no one seems to talk about it. So I understand there should be free play at the lever. But I was wondering how that free play looks at the clutch side. I am asking because I changed my levers and when I release my clutch lever the little arm with a spring near the clutch doesn't spring back all the way in. Is that normal, or should it spring back all the way? Hope I explained clearly ;]
I am no expert but that doesn’t sound right... especially if it was different than before. For me my issue is clutch releases at the very bottom, like the last 7/8 of the lever is my “clutch”
@@brucewayne2397 not really but I managed to adjust it to be ok. It was strange, but I can say there's is Freeplay on both ends. After that I had to get my second service so I asked them and they assured me that everything is property adjusted.
Bro you saved my life, thank you so much for the knowledge. I changed my levers and didn’t what to do after, thank you.
Very simple and to the point instructions, much appreciated sir!

Thank you. Thanks to your video I finally understand the concept of free play.
Just what I needed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Glad I could help!

Gonna try this today
Thanks from a former hating to change oil guy! Bikes, age and info like yours
2 credit card trick is great, ty sirr!
Very instructional and clear, easy to understand, thank you so much!

Thanks a lot. I did it first with the bicycle and then with the motorcycle so I can understand how to adjust it properly and it worked.
Thought I was going to need new cables, not today! Thanks man

Omg I’ve been trying to figure this out for a couple weeks now and came across this video. Thank you so much for the info my guy
I can’t get a wrench to the top nut and there is also that metal bracket in between the two nuts. Any suggestions?
These 2 creditcard good for my sv650s 2003 to? Cold engine or warm engine?
My Honda crf 230 is really confusing to make the clutch looser. Do you have any other ideas

No, you do a full adjustment at the other end of the cable to reset it.
You helped me fix my ninja 400. Thanks bro
This is awesome and very helpful video I tried it and it works Just using my card thanks.
Before performing any clutch cable operation, make sure YOUR HANDLE IS STRAIGHT.
so even though you have slop in the clutch, does it always move that arm on the engine? or not until you move it more when it bites?
Should not start to push the clutch rod until you are at end of free play. You may need to adjust the lower part of the cable and the push rod adjustment (usually in line with centre of your clutch basket)
Your Yamaha key has a notch at the top. That's the perfect tool to measure the gap
Another good reason for having slack is to prevent dragging the clutch and premature wear on plates.
So the cable shouldnt move at all when applying slop?

another question, is it only me or can u revmatch easily keeping that little freeplay as u mentioned in the video?
Some clutches are easier than others to rev match with. Some have the engagement zone really close to one side vs the other. You still need a little slack either way.
Thanks,I needed that.👍🏻👍🏻
Maybe a dumb question but, should you here noise when your bike is in neutral and clutch isn't engaged?

Very informative, thank you sir!
I cant loosen mine enough so clutch slips still what do I do?
How do you know if you have a slipping clutch
Do you have a video about throttle adjustment
Yep it's in the how to playlist
Is the 2 a 3 mm you can used two quarter dollar for the gauge
oh that makes sense why my bike didnt' start after I gobbed this up..i should of looked it up before messing with the gixx'r
Whenever I work on my bike, I use the service manual (different from owner's manual). It takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.
+Everyday But Sunday lol so do I but like I said, it does no good in this case.
You could use a USA nickel 5cents. Use its thickness
Great video

Did u ever find out?
Clutch push rod adjustment

Did he say brake cable?
Thank you 😊
I use the "nickel" method
+old12school3 same effect...but not all my viewers are in the US ;)
Love the videos
I hava a new clutch cable for a yz250 and i have way too much freeplay. Followed instruction and still have too much play
Cheers bud
Thanks now ill stop over thinking about my z400
Thank you from a noob trying to understand his first bike.
Simple but important.
My manual says 10.0-15.0mm (0.39-0.59in)?
That seems way to slack or am I reading it wrong ? 10 -15mm😮
My guess is that it’s dimension at the end of the lever and not at the beginning (2 cards gap).
Correct, at least for my manual that’s where Freeplay is measured and not at the perch
You took so long to tell me what I needed to know and went to someone esle
