  • At this site near the village of Shawbost are the reconstructed buildings of a Mill and Kiln, which were in use up until the 1930's. Its design and construction are of the type introduced by the Vikings during their ruling of the Western Isles (from the 8th to the 11th centuries). A great many of these mills were spread across the islands, this is the last working example left. A lovely little site to look around, picturesque setting, interesting history, and an easy short walk from the main road. Free to visit. The Mill building is on the left, the Kiln on the right.
