there was a Polish army unit that serve in Italy in WWII ; the 2nd Polish Corp commanded by BG W. Anders, this were the ones that took the famous Monte Casino.

In Monte Cassino there is a polish cemetery and monument dedicated to the polish soldiers who fought there and died for our freedom.
