With the 4th of July coming up, it's grilling season back home in America! But... we're in Italy. To celebrate America's birthday, Eva and I are collaborating to invent some new Italian-style dishes inspired by classic American grilled recipes.
Will we come up with an instant classic or just destroy some already perfect dishes? You be the judge!

I'm sorry to ask, but I'm genuinely curious as a non native speaker 😂😂
Is the idea behind "richer than Elon musk times two":
      A. You take Elon musk's wealth and make it double, then Harper is richer than the result you got
      Or
      B. The amount of how Harper is richer than Elon Musk equals double EM's wealth
      ? 😂

That's really pretty impressive that Eva knew to add the sugar to the dough for the buns. I don't think most Americans even notice how sweet hot dog and burger buns are.

They are pretty sweet. It is true that most of our breads have sugar but I don’t know what is going on. Things seem to be getting sweeter and sweeter. It’s been out of hand but continues to get worse.
I picked up some dinner rolls a few weeks ago and my kitchen smelled like I was baking cookies when I warmed them in the oven.

I keep wondering if bakers think we are all seriously depressed 😂
That used to a be a trick people used to put a little pep in your step before mass production. Add a spoon full of sugar to grits or bread.
      Now it’s a cup.

    • @ps5801
      @ps5801 Рік тому

@@janetseidlitz5976 True. Even if you want to put the dough in the fridge for a day or two this can help with the rise when you take it out of the fridge.
I used to do this thing where I'd sift over a couple of teaspoons of powdered sugar and do a light knead before the last rise and shaping. I got really good results. Not as nice as what Eva gets, but still really nice. I've been mostly making sourdough for so long now that I'm not sure I could even remember exactly how I did it, but it was something like that.

The carbonara burger looks good 👌🤤 our local snackbar actually has a burger just like it, only with a local bacon as well. (Friesian smoked bacon 👌) They also have a version with all the same toppings and fried onion rings, called lord of the rings burger and funnily enough they do use American cheese 😅 probably because it melts really well. I have to admit, sometimes I put it on my tosti (grilled cheese and ham sandwich) as well. 😋
I totally get the 'struggles' with finding something similar to graham crackers, when I want to try an American recipe that calls for them. They aren't available in stores here either. Apparently Europeans don't have a need for them. We'd rather have them with the chocolate on them allready. We call those prince cookies here 😁

As far as cooking a hotdog in a pan, I can help you out. My wife and I live in an apartment, and aren't allowed to grill. Instead, I cook hotdogs in a cast-iron skillet. Use a little bit of oil, either grapeseed or olive, or some butter. We use beef hotdogs, so the butter seems to work best. I typically cook them until I get a little bit of a crust going. Make sure to turn them periodically, and I can fit five or six in a ten inch skillet, though that depends on whether I'm using bun length dogs. Once you've got a good sear on all sides, it's good to go.

You can easily make ketchup at home and it will probably taste better than the store. Ketchup is basically just tomato paste, vinegar and sugar. You can add also celery salt, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard powder and cloves for seasoning but it’s not necessary. I agree with Eva, my experience is that store bought American food in European countries is most often not worth buying.

Of course being Eva in Italy and walking around in supermarkets, you see the real Italy.

I love when Eva likes something she ate, but doesn't want to give away how much she liked it. Just admit that you loved the hot dog!!! xD

Eva you are a master at cooking! I look forward to watching every video over and over again to get ideas and instructions. Thank God for her being trapped in the US for covid because we all now get to have her magic!

In New Jersey we have what’s called “Italian-style hot dogs.” It’s a boiled hot dog with fried potatoes, peppers & onions on “pizza bread” which is a quarter of a flat, round loaf that’s a little softer than regular Italian bread. Very yummy.

I rarely LOL even when I find many things quite funny, but the George Washington quote made me literally LOL for several secs. Thanks, Harper!
By the way, I sometimes cook hot dogs in the oven (350F for 8-10 mins.) to mimic grill cooking.

@@pjequinelady same for me. Former homeowners tried to hide old damage and the the new. Not just under the sink but all the cabinets to the left. Then the oven quit and the fridge/freezer died. 40,000 not including appliances. Major ouch. I would LOVE to show the new layout (demolition starts august 23.) good thing I’ve been saving for a 2 acre fence. If you can do your own tile backsplash it will save you a BUTTLOAD of money. If I didn’t have to replace my Tesla battery at the same time, I would have no worries.

Maybe you should have put a chocolate piece inside the cookie with the pistachio cream.

If all you cam find is extra lean chuck, then adding 5-10% pork fat or some beef tallow works very well.

Oh my Eva has given me so many great ideas I'm growing my own tomatoes and am so excited to try home made sauce I might even try baking bread more often. Your food looks delicious. Also love your eggplant sandwich that was a good idea and something my hubbies would really like. :)

A more traditional American desert would be Strawberry Shortcake with baking powder biscuit, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream.

Wow! I think I'll try the burger this weekend. My daughter's a baker and will have left over hamburger buns! The pistachio cream looks interesting. I love pistachios. I think I would like it on toasted bread! Super job you two!

The Italian bakery I worked for me made hotdog and hamburger buns in metal pans shaped to the product.
We oiled the pan set the product let it rise and cooked and sliced it.
Italian buns on the spot better than anything in a grocery store.

I feel like y’all need to go to Chicago. You’ve never had a meatball and sausage sandwich? A sausage and peppers? Use an Italian sausage on that bad boy 😢🫠🤤 home.
The polish and the Italians got together and made food babies there 😂
