It’s so strange to me when people go after dark romance authors when there are authors out there actively doing harm by being racist, homophobic, transphobic. There are loads of dark/taboo romances that I’ve hated but I’d never try to ruin an authors career, it’s just crazy.
I just read Haunting Adeline about a month ago. That book has a lot of trigger warnings in it. It was removed from Amazon when it was first published. I did buy it from KU, so at some point, they allowed the book back up on the site. I was aware of the warnings, but it was up to me, to make the decision to read it, not someone who finds it offensive and wants it banned. It was my first Dark Romance Novel, which I never knew was a genre until recently. I liked the book, even though it was over the top at times. Hopefully, all the offended people out there won’t get their way, and have all the really taboo stuff banned. That wouldn’t be any fun for legal adults who actually enjoy some kink and spice in their books.
I didn't even know the issue was happening. Thank you Jen for defending our rights to read what we want. Banning books is not okay period!!!!🤯 There is no shame in reading Fiction. It's fiction not real life. High handed behavior to decide for everyone what we can read. Boo hiss.😡 It really upsets me. Thank you for addressing this. I had no clue. Thank you for doing a rec video for taboo books. You are awesome Jen!!! Sassy Jen.😊 I love the justifiable Sass. You are a Rockstar. Peace.🤨😊🤗📚💫⭐
I figured when many places in the US started banning books in schools and many public library systems ( I am fortunate to have access to a FANTASTIC library system), the type of books many of us read and enjoy would be next in line for attack. Thanks for the information.
@KJ-yb2wfUnfortunately, they're not just monitoring what children read. They're literally just banning books because they don't want kids to ever read about, feel represented by, or find empathy for ppl of color and gay ppl. They're banning books under the guise of it all being gay 🌽 when they're just lying through their teeth.
Oh, I’ve been seeing that graphic going around an Instagram and I was wondering what that was now I know north has been on my TBR for a while now. And I really do want to try reading a Jade West book
So now I gotta search seven rue books because I need to know lol. On another note, I love when I see repeats in your videos because they let me know they still hold up over time in your head.
Thank you for being candid and honest times 100 ❤ You give your entire heart 💜 to everything you do in all of your videos. I love Eden Books & found it when I wanted a copy of The Dare 👍
I feel like 'purity' culture has been growing lately, as someone who reads a lot of fanfiction it's been like that for a while in those spaces (way too many people with the train of thought 'if you write about x thing you must therefore support x thing happening in real life and therefore must be a terrible person' and more. I can go on a whole ass rant about that), but I didn't realise it was creeping out into publishing. Banning books is just eurghh. Though this reminds me I really should find other places to buy ebooks. I'll make a list of the ones mentioned in the video. You're right that amazon is easy, and tends to have a lot of offers like the stuff your kindle days.
I am a librarian and I am against any book banning. If you don't like a buff, don't read it. It's the same thing with the TV show. You don't like it. Don't watch it. Some places can choose not to sell books and that's fine, but Amazon could at least sell it on Kindle and make sure adults only are buying it. And I mean of course there are some exceptions to interview rule, like nambla should never had had their book published. But let's not forget VC Andrews was wildly popular and is still sold on Amazon.
It honestly makes me FURIOUS that Amazon dictates to me what I can and can’t read! How dare anyone! If you don’t like it- don’t read it, but don’t tell anyone else they can’t! 🤬🤬🤬
Tillie Cole had to remove all her series The Hades Hangman series just because of people complaining. This is just getting out of control. People should be able to write and read what they want. Banning books should not be allowed
Nothing new with people having their panties in a twist over taboo books. There is a difference between keeping inappropriate book content out of schools vs banning a book completely from anyone else reading it. When people start policing what adults can or cannot read, then I take an issue with it. No one is sanitizing what I read, and I have been an avid romance or taboo romance reader for over 20 years, and I’m not stopping because people are upset with it. Don’t want your kids getting a hold of these authors? Then watch what your kids are consuming online. Don’t allow them on TikTok 🙄. This has a lot to do with parents not watching what their kids are having access to. I watch my kids constantly, making sure they are playing with games appropriate for their age or listening to music without swears, or what they are watching on TV or on UA-cam. There are some books you read Jenn and enjoy and I don’t want to ever read, because I know they will upset or trigger me. So I know to stay away from those books. This is why content warnings are put in place, because some people may become disturbed by what is written. I own some K. Webster books that are disturbing, but I still think people have the right to read it if they want to.
Yeah, It's a personal responsibility issue for me. However, from the situation in this case.. it actually seems more like some PAs and authors are targeting taboo authors they find distasteful, and they have a personal vendetta, and because they write taboo romance, they are attacking that. Which is just SO awful.. attacking someone's source of income and possibly destabilizing their income? Inexcusable to me. Especially as someone who relies on public generosity and public perception to feed and clothe myself... It pisses me off to a whole other level. Just DON'T read what you aren't interested in. And leave everyone else the hell alone.
I have a theory about “Taboo books” I come really much from the historical romance pipeline, to mafia that is like historical than to the taboo area, back than in historicals dubcon was a way huger thing and age gap and all this stuff. They became much tamer and we gravitated towards the taboo dark romance genre as “ex” historical readers
What a shame...I just finished Marie Ann's book. Fragmented Illusions(brothers). So good , I will continue to read these books as some of the other comments said.. who do they think they are policing my tastes. If you don't like this content, move on..
This convo comes around over and over. Though in this case.. I do think it is a personal vendetta against certain taboo authors. So they are using the fact that these particular authors focus on taboo subjects to go after them... and it sticks in my craw!!

I've never understood banning books. I feel for every author of any genre that has (or had) to face this kind of 💩
So much word Jen. Hate when some people try to police other people's taste. Thank you for the video!

Love it! And absolutely ‘Keep reading/writing what you want read/write’. ❤❤❤

Hello and thanks for sharing ☺️
Are people still targeting authors to get their books getting off?

Thank you Jen! I never think of alternative buying the books not from Zon to further help the authors, now I know. 😊
