  • This video was kindly sent to me by Alan Johns. The opening of the Mildenhall training track in 1987, by Danish Speedway Superstar Erik Gundersen. After a few bike issues and trying different machines, he gets it dialled in.

    Erik is one of the greatest speedway rider ever. Who knows how many titles he could win...

    Nice to see Erik in his prime…always approachable and pleasant…I’ve ridden the 125cc speedway bikes I found them much harder to ride than the conventional 500cc because you didn’t have the power to get the back wheel sliding, obviously Erik has the throttle nailed and makes it look much easier than it actually is.

    This bike would be lethal on a longer track. Kudos to Erik for being able to ride that underpowered thing and not high side. It lost power in every corner and straightened out, not having enough power to hold the slide throughout the corner. Not sure how the kids manage it.......
